The "Secondary Liability" Theory on YouTube/iPhone
2007-07-18 16:29:00 So, speaking of YouTube, Apple, and Google,CNET found someone to complain that the copyright on their content is being infringed by YouTube, and speculates that Apple may have liability too because they are showing YouTube videos on the iPhone. While copyrighted material can certainly be found on YouTube, winning a case against them for copyright infringement is much harder than it looks. YouTube is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act which, among other things, protects sites like YouTube from the actions of its users. Copyright holders are left with filing a notice with YouTube to pull their content down (which they will do), or trying to prove that YouTube moved outside of the safe harbor under the Act.Viacom and others are trying to do exactly that, and are playing a $1 billion game of poker with Google, YouTube?s parent company. But to add Apple to the mix, who simply show YouTube content but do not host it on their servers, adds a whole additional layer of legal co... More About: Youtube , Iphone , Theory , Econ , Onda
Will Apple release 'iPhone Nano'?
2007-07-10 17:27:00 So, is it really going to happen? Could there be an iPhone Nano in the making for release from Apple ? You read and decide for yourself. An article from CBC news reports the following:Apple will launch a cheaper iPhone this fall, based on the ultra-thin iPod Nano music player, a JPMorgan analyst said Monday. Kevin Chang sent a note to clients saying a new iPhone is on the way. He based his prediction on unnamed sources in the supply chain and an Apple patent filing published July 5. The application to the U.S. Patent Office, cited in Chang's report, was filed for a multifunctional device with the ability to be used as a phone, transfer data, and play audio and video files, all controlled by a circular touch pad, similar to the iPod scroll wheel.Chang said a way to follow up the iPhone with a cheaper version would be to convert the Nano into a phone and price it at $300 or lower. The current iPhone retails between $499 US and $599 US, depending on storage space. "We believe that i... More About: Iphone , Release , Lease
The Secret of Layaway Purchase Plans
2007-07-06 17:26:00 Have you ever really wanted to make a purchase, but you didn't have enough money to do so? Layaway is one option that is available to most buyers at many stores online and off. These purchase plans are designed for people who cannot pay for a product immediately, but they have a desire for some particular merchandise. There are several different kinds of layaway plans offered in places that sell appliances, jewelry or clothing, discount stores, and specialty stores.According to an article in Teen Consumer: Buying Goods and Services, the following question was asked, ?How do layaway plans work?? The answer revealed is quite simple. Layaway plans require that you make installment payments on the merchandise. You receive it only after you pay the full price. This plan is different than credit because when you buy on credit, you take the merchandise before you pay. Each store establishes the terms for their layaway plan. Most layaway plans involve making a deposit (usually a percentage... More About: The Secret , Secret , Plans , Plan , Away

Instead of Getting in More Credit Debt
2007-06-26 19:18:00 The money you spend when you use a credit card isn't really yours ? you're actually borrowing it from the bank or other financial institution that issues the credit card, in an arrangement called revolving credit. You have access to a fixed amount of money, called your credit limit. Once you repay any of the money you have spent, you can borrow that amount all over again. What you borrow, or what you spend, is called principal. For the privilege of using the principal, you pay the credit card issuer a finance charge, which is the interest that accumulates on any unpaid balance. For example, if you have a balance of $600 on a card with an annual interest rate of 18%, your monthly finance charge will be $9. It's calculated by multiplying a month's worth of interest ? 1.5% ? times the balance.Every credit card company has to disclose the interest rate it charges on the balance you carry, and different cards charge different rates so it's worth shopping around. Some list their month... More About: Credit , Debt

While I was a way I'm certain there have been some serious new technology updates and awesome information that I've missed out on. And here is my top pic found right on MSNBC.MSN.New technology lets mind move toy train Scientists set to develop brain-controlled TV remote HATOYAMA, Japan - Forget the clicker: A new technology in Japan could let you control electronic devices without lifting a finger simply by reading brain activity. The "brain-machine interface" developed by Hitachi Inc. analyzes slight changes in the brain's blood flow and translates brain motion into electric signals. A cap connects by optical fibers to a mapping device, which links, in turn, to a toy train set via a control computer and motor during one recent demonstration at Hitachi's Advanced Research Laboratory in Hatoyama, just outside Tokyo."Take a deep breath and relax," said Kei Utsugi, a researcher. The toy train im... Consumers Plunge into Credit Card Debt
2007-06-12 19:23:00 So you figure you will have the money one day to pay for the latest LCD television right? Why shouldn't you splurge a little on the newest technology? Getting a credit card and buying the newest digital camera won't cause too much damage. Or will it? Most people don't plan on paying off the $4,000 HDTV Plasma at once of course because in that case these consumers would be cash buyers. However consumers do plan on paying it off little by little. The fact of the matter is that paying it off too little by little does not pay off at all. About one-twelfth of this debt is paid off before it incurs interest, so Americans pay interest on an annual load of about $690 billion in revolving debt.? According to the Federal Reserve, the most recent average credit card interest rate is 12.4%APR. At simple interest, with no compounding, then, consumers pay at least $85 billionannually in interest on credit card and other revolving debt.? Just about 55 percent of consumers carry debt. Going, Going...Everywhere
2007-06-11 16:50:00 According to BusinessWeek-eBay has been buying furiously to move beyond its auction-house identity, and a new raft of services will spread its reach even further When Pierre M. Omidyar founded (eBAY ) in 1995, the key to e-commerce success was relatively simple: Establish a Web site where Web surfers go to spend time and shop. By that measure, eBay.com became one of the Web's most successful sites, with 233 million registered users looking to auction off items or find bargains. Indeed, the average eBay user today spends nearly two hours a month on the site--still more than five times what people spend on Amazon.com.Today, though, insisting that everyone visit your solitary site seems so '90s. The action is wherever users make it--on a(MySpace ) page, in a (YouTube ) video, in their very own blog. So where does that leave eBay? Everywhere, if eBay has its way. The company is stepping up efforts to break out beyond its own walls. It's a big reason why it has spent more than $6 bill... More About: Where , Going , Goin

How to Get More for Less
2007-06-06 19:22:00 Some people seem to have all the modern technology and will pay almost any amount to get it. Well, budget minded consumers like you and me want gadgets too, and I am here to tell you "the art in gadget shopping" is really in where you shop and not "all about the benjamins". Actually not only does where one gets the product matter, but, also when they get it. Bargain shopping is one sure fire method to get the biggest bang for your buck as long as you don't mind putting on your virtual safari hat and spending a few hours hunting around the web. You will more than likely get products at a discounted price by shopping around. I've found that shopping online is definitely the most productive way to get the best deals. However, make sure the site your visiting is secure, and safe for making purchases. Ebay is great because not only do you get a discount price, but you actually have more control of your purse or wallet. You have the ability to bid, and with a bit of luck, a... More About: Less
Internet Cafes rock...Get Excited!
2007-06-06 16:20:00 The newest afterschool hotspot belongs to the internet cafe. Where else can you go to travel the world in an hour, spill your heart out to millions, and get the latest news, gossip, and trends from every possible source? Some cafe host, however, are not taking the necessary precautions to avoid internet pornography and underage sites from being accessed. So it seems it will become more difficult for people in China if they don't have access to a computer at home. My thoughts are definitely to protect our children and that it is more than too easy to access pornography online and on television. However, we must not forget all of the good that computers were invented for and how fascinating it is for individuals to surf the information superhighway.http://feeds.feedburner.com/ talkintechviajai More About: Internet , Rock , Cafes , Intern , Excite
