New Themes: Currents and Debut
2012-02-02 21:00:00
Today, I’m excited to introduce the latest additions to our collection of premium themes. Designed by Andy Rutledge, Currents, is a responsive, minimal yet attractive premium theme from WooThemes . Currents is perfect for news driven sites. The phrase, “less is more” couldn’t be more true. This clean and minimal design maximises your reader’s focus on the content. Having said that, the theme is packed with many customization options — a wide featured post slider, custom news areas, six alternative color styles, and more. Together, all of these features help you to control how to present current events you want to share with your readers. Think your readers might check your site on a mobile device? No problem! Currents makes your site look great on an iPad, iPhone or any other mobile device. This is not all about this great theme, Currents — so be sure to read about it on the Theme Showcase. Next up is Debut – a beautifully designed t...

Reblogging is Back!
2012-01-22 20:27:00
As we mentioned last week, you can like and reblog posts directly from your reader, which displays a stream of all the updates published on all the blogs you follow from your WordPress.com account. We’ve also brought the reblog button back to the toolbar that appears at the top of the screen when you’re logged into WordPress.com. Note that you’ll only see the like and reblog options while you’re looking at individual posts. For example, you’ll see this on the left side of your toolbar while viewing http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/01/20/r ead-blogs: And your toolbar will look like this while you’re browsing the home page of en.blog.wordpress.com: How does reblogging work? Reblogging is a quick way to share posts published by other WordPress.com users on your own blog. When a post is reblogged, it shows up with a link back to the blog it came from, the first image in the post, an excerpt of the post’s introduction (if it contains text), an...

Read All Your Favorite Blogs in One Place
2012-01-20 01:04:00
If you feel like it’s a chore to keep up with all your favorite blogs, you can now read posts from all the blogs you follow (even the ones that aren’t on WordPress.com!) in one convenient place on the WordPress.com home page: Your reader displays all the posts across all the blogs you follow in the order they were published, with the most recent content appearing at the top. You’ll see an excerpt of the introduction to each post, the first image in the post, and thumbnails of any other images that the post contains. You can even like and reblog WordPress.com content directly from the reader (we’re working on bringing reblogs back to the toolbar!) using the icons in the top right corner of each post: Whether you’re at the computer or using the WordPress app on an Android or iOS mobile device, having all the posts from the blogs you follow in one place makes it easy to find the updates that are important to you, and skip over the ones that aren’t....

WordPress.com Blogger Scores Book Deal for “You Are Not So Smart&rdqu
2011-11-11 18:23:00
According to David McRaney, “You may think that you’re a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is. But you’re as deluded as the rest of us, and that’s OK, because it keeps you sane.” David is a journalist and the creator of the WordPress.com blog You Are Not So Smart , which was recently expanded into a book, You Are Not So Smart: Why You Have Too Many Friends on Facebook, Why Your Memory Is Mostly Fiction, and 46 Other Ways You’re Deluding Yourself, published this October. “This is an amazing and revolutionary time for writers,” David says. “The barriers to entry are so low, and the platforms like WordPress.com are so well made, anyone with a voice can start shouting and be heard. Instead of writing a book and hoping a publisher won’t throw it into the slush pile, writers can start a blog and build a fan base. They can prove to publishers there is a market for their work and their voice.” About the Book ...

New Themes: Photography, Brand New Day, and Bouquet
2011-11-10 17:10:00
I’m happy to announce that we’ve added another group of three new themes to our collection today. Each one has its own distinct personality but they do share one thing in common: they’re all awesome themes that I know you’ll love. Let’s check them out. The first up is Photography , a premium theme designed by The Theme Foundry specifically for Photographers looking for a great way to share their photos. It takes advantage of Post Formats to present your galleries in a beautiful custom way — in posts and two custom page templates. Make sure you check it out on the Theme Showcase and browse around the Photography theme demo site. Next up is the super-fun, Brand New Day theme designed by Caroline Moore. It’s a lovely, illustrated theme that comes in four different “flavors”–day, night, autumn, and winter. Each flavor is expertly tied into the design. Plus it has different sidebar arrangements and a narrow/wide column option. Finally,...

Improving Disconnected Decisions with Smart Mobile Applications
2007-02-21 17:41:03
I was browsing through the Java Mobile Applications Website, then came across a 2004 Report on Emerging Business Applications in the Japanese Mobile Internet. Pretty Interesting stuff. Integrating Mobile Applications into the work fabric unlocks many efficiencies, while also introducing some challenges. Here are some of the uses of Mobile Technology that I have heard of. Mobile Applications for Field Personnel (Real Estate, Financial Services, Retail) Fleet Management Apps in Retail Supply Chain Applications in Retail, Government. A Usecase for Analysis Lets take one example of a Sales Agent for a Financial Services Firm. Lets assume he sells financing for Tractors and other farming equipment. He uses a Mobile Phone with Java or Windows CE, which runs a quote generation application. This application connects to a central website to which he submits the details of the equipment the prospect is interested in. He should be able to generate a quote on his Mobile, and attempt to clos...

Thinking of Human Activities and Business Processes
2007-02-21 11:40:01
Now, I was speaking to our Product Architect yesterday. He was saying that we need business rules technology to solve the problems arising out of H-Commerce. Now, what in the world is H-Commerce? When we think and of business systems, I have noticed that we generally think in terms of computers, software systems, databases, business processes, warehouses, SOA, Information Management Systems, ERP and other countless other words. But, you canNot really ignore that there are people out there, and are very much a very big part of every equation. Now, H-Commerce is essentially the sum of the following. How to Manage Online Product Availability Effectively. Eweek has this article about Mercado Software that will without human intervention?add and remove products based on inventory and item profit margins. I found that interesting because this is a clear use case for business rules technology.
