The Intel Developer Forum, which started Tuesday and runs through Thursday, features a talk of new tech from CEO Paul Otellini, a warning from co-founder Gordon Moore, and everything chip. Hello folks, there's plenty going on this year at Intel's IDF, here's a brief recap of what we've seen so far. And Intel has also completed the design for Nehalem, a more radical overhaul of the company's chip blueprints. The more interesting news was Otellini's goals for Intel over the rest of the decade. The company plans to ship a generation of processors on its 45-nanometer manufacturing technology by 2009 that c...

Apple, AT&T: Bosom buddies or odd couple?
2007-09-13 18:56:00
Cnet has posted a great story about the Apple , AT&T relationship with some insights on why this corporate relationship is so difficult mostly for AT&T.AT&T is straddling a precarious line between partnering and competing with Apple in the mobile music market. AT&T's exclusive deal to sell Apple's iPhone for use on its network in the United States has been the envy of the wireless industry for more than nine months. But managing its own mobile music strategy while working with a tight-lipped and controlling partner like Apple is proving a challenge for AT&T, particularly as Apple launches new products and services that may compete with AT&T's own. Like many partnerships in the tech industry, the Apple-AT&T combination is increasingly looking like "co-opetition," a term used to describe business partners that also compete. Apple, of course, is no stranger to co-opetition: For years, Microsoft, to name one company Apple works with, has sold software to run on the Macintosh ope...

Sneak Peek: Compiz Fusion 0.5.2
2007-09-12 17:17:00
Hello folks, I've just read a review on the new of Compiz Fusion , which is one of the best graphics engine for linux.Compiz is one of the first compositing window managers for the X Window System that uses 3D graphics hardware to create fast compositing desktop effects for window management. The effects, such as a minimization effect and a cube workspace are implemented as loadable plugins. Because it conforms to the Inter-Client Communication Conventions Manual standard, Compiz can substitute for the default Metacity in GNOME or KWin in KDE.As most people probably know by now, the two major 3D compositing window managers on the Linux platform, Compiz and Beryl, merged together in April of this year and now work together under the banner of Compiz Fusion . The prior Beryl team works now on the for plugins Compiz Fusion, while the prior Compiz team works on the Compiz Fusion core. In the relatively short time span since the merger occurred a lot of positive synergy have come to frui...

AMD's Barcelona party kicked off Monday night in San Francisco, and the relief was palpable on many faces. The company formally unveiled Barcelona, AMD's first quad-core server processor, a higher-performing version of its Opteron chip for server computers. AMD executives, employees and partners seem ready to emerge from their bunkers after months hunkered down waiting for cover, in hopes the new chip will help it finally return to profitability. Barcelona gives AMD that cover. "Barcelona was designed to win in four key areas: performance, investment protection, virtualization and energy efficiency," said CEO Hector Ruiz while onstage at the Letterman Digital Arts Theater inside LucasFilm's facilities.Read all about Cnet's special coverage. What's behind iPhone price cut? This week we had several major stories in the world of Technology, I think the most intriguing one is Apple's special event and of course Apple's (AAPL) iPhone price cut, as you may have heard Apple dropped the price of the 8 gig version of the iPhone to 399$ from 599$. and after Wednesday's event you didn't have to be an expert to guess Apple loyalists and early iPhone customers who stood in the long lines for days ain't exactly going to be thrilled about this, Meanwhile Apple has received lots of criticism both from investors and Apple fan boys about cutting their hottest product price by a third nearly 2 months since its release, and Yesterday Apple CEO Steve Jobs officially apologized for pissing out his loyal fans and early iPhone adopters, and offering iPhone buyers a $100 store credit toward any Apple product.I think that even though its really frustrating for early iPhone costumers Apple is making the right decision, now Wall st. obviou...

The Beat certainly goes on!
2007-09-05 20:42:00
Well its finally here, as reported Apple really refreshed its entire iPod line. Starting from the iPod Shuffle with new colors, a new as rumored "Phatty" iPod Nano, and no its not as ugly at all as some mocked it before, its really cute but I guess that's subjective. It has a bigger screen with video, the screen the same size as the previous iPod video. Of course the combined new interface is real showing the the main menu with a split screen where the left is the actual menu and the left is the contacts of this category (Cover flow view of your music, etc...) The new interface as previously been rumored looks real good, and it certainly enhances the iPod's user experience, As for the iPod (iPod Classic as Apple now calls it) is really great first its really really thin, its all metal enclosure and looks great.Plus it really has a tremendous value in terms of $ per Gigabyte, it priced at 249$ for 80 gig and 349 for the 160$, which makes it highest capacity iPod ever!! But the real ...

IBM's Radical Collaboration
2007-09-03 22:15:00
Businessweek is running a great story on Massive innovation collaboration going at IBM, and how IBM using its radical collaboration style saved its chip business from shutting down. The story really puts the emphasis on Coll aboration as a new, better way for companies to innovate in the era of fierce competition. IBM is reinventing the way it innovates. At one time the tech giant was a true believer in go-it-alone R&D. The feeling was that if a technology wasn't invented by IBMers, it wasn't as good. Now the computer pioneer realizes that no matter how big an organization is, more smart people are going to work outside its walls than inside. So it courts R&D partners aggressively. "We are the most innovative when we collaborate," declares Chief Executive Samuel J. Palmisano. The story also answers some tough question like how can you possibly mange those innovation networks? Think how hard it is to get people in a single corporation on the same page. Now multiply that by ...

HP launches RedHat Linux desktop PC
2007-09-01 19:30:00
It seems Hewlett Packard can't let Dell sell its Ubuntu preloaded systems without giving it a shot of it own. Yesterday HP announced that it will start selling RedHat (RHT) Linux based PCs."With the cost of proprietary systems continuing to rise, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Desktop minimises acquisition and ongoing deployment costs, leaving more money and resources for other high-value projects and tasks,” said Max McLaren, General Manager at Red Hat in Australia and New Zealand, taking a clear dig at Vista. As we reported earlier Open Source software, particularly Linux is on the rise, as Dell and now HP pushing open source systems as cheaper better alternatives to a market that for years has been dominated by Microsoft corp. BitTorrent 2.0 uses bandwidth as currency!
2007-09-01 01:03:00
Hello folks, I've just read a great post on TorrentFreak that Harvard develops P2P client that uses bandwidth as “Currency ”. They released Tribler V4.1 yesterday, and I must say it looks pretty darn good, interesting to try it out and see how it develops. Harvard, the richest University in the world recently started a new line of P2P research. They have an army of law professors to protect them, so unlike others, they must feel safe to do this controversial research in the land of the free and the home of the RIAA/MPAA. The Harvard project is all about a fresh new approach. To be honest, have we seen a new trick since eMule and Bittorrent started? Things have clearly slowed down in the last years. The Harvard researchers are currently working on one of hardest P2P problems, ensuring uploads. P2P dies or thrives depending on how much upload people donate. By introducing electronic “currency” for uploads they think they can make P2P HDTV Video on Demand possible. With the min...

Dell's Move Forward?
2007-08-31 18:49:00
Dell profit jump 46% in second quarter Shares rise after hours; results tied to servers, laptops. Looks like Dell (DELL) is back on the horse as it builds and restructures the company, Just weeks after closing the books on an internal accounting investigation, Dell announced quarterly results that exceeded analysts' forecasts and suggest the computer maker's turnaround is gaining steam. Yet Dell said its earnings took a hit from higher expenses related to an accounting investigation and payments for expired stock options. In preliminary results for the fiscal second-quarter, Dell said it earned $733 million, or 32 cents a share, compared to $502 million, or 22 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 7% to $14.8 billion from last-year's $14.1 billion. Chief Executive Michael Dell said the company was showing signs of improvement, but remained lukewarm about its overall performance. ...

Mix: Nokia iPhone, Apple Sept 5th event
2007-08-29 21:07:00
Lots of interesting stuff going on today. First of Nokia has offically copied the iPhone, and created a Nokia branded device that looks nearly identical to the Apple revolutionary gizmo. It was presented during Nokia's GoPlay event this morning as a glimpse into the future of Nokia interface design. Oh, and it's due out next year. When pressed during the Q&A about the striking similarity to the little Cupertino device, Anssi Vanjoki -- Nokia's Executive VP & General Manager of Multimedia -- said, "If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride." Well, ok then. See what we mean after the break.Next up Apple has confirm yesterday that it will hold a special event next week, Wednesday as we reported last week, and sent out digital invites to selected members. The invites, which arrived by e-mail, depict an enlarged CoverFlow interface with the caption, "The beat goes on." The wording appears to have been borrowed from the trailing line of The Beatles' final pres...

My Take: Google banned me from Adsense- part 2
2007-08-27 22:15:00
Hello fellow Bold investors!I wanted to give you an update about my dispute with Googl e over my Adsense account. In case you haven't read my last take, Google informed me that my Account has been disabled for invalid clicks/page impressions.I immediately emailed Google informing them that there has been some kind of mistake, since I did not perform any kind of invalid activity on my blog.Meanwhile I got some great advice from the Blogcatalog community about Adsense alternatives and ways to deal with it. (thank you very much!)Well nearly two weeks have past since, and today I finally got a response from the Google Adsense team, unfortunately as expected they haven't change their mind about my blog, calming they rechecked and found that the activity on my blog has violated their terms and conditions and program policies.Personally I really love Google, and use a lot of their products, its too bad I wont be able to use Adsense on my blog. The Name's Eisner, Michael Eisner 2.0
2007-08-26 21:26:00
Michael Eisner 2.0 Do you remember Michael Eisner ? the former CEO of Disney who did really great during the 80's and practically revitalized the company but blew it later with lagging results from the company as well as being criticized for turning the Walt Disney Company into a "rapacious, soul-less" company, and refusing to establish a clear succession plan, as well as a string of box-office movie failures starting in the year 2000.Well its been quite a while since we have heard anything about Disney's former chief Michael Eisner, but it seems now that he's up and about and doing quite well considering his Disney embarrassing ouster.Businessweek is running a story about Eisner's second coming, at 65 Eisner is trying to reinvent himself as a new media mogul running his new studio "Vuguru", Eisner is trying to join forces with some top companies in order to revitalize himself back to the entertainment business, such companies like baseball card maker Topps Co. Report: Major Apple event coming Sept. 5
2007-08-25 12:58:00
Hello folks, new reports have surfaced that Apple intends to hold a major event on Sept ember 5th. The big question is will we finally get the promised "true video iPod"? Looks like the iPod is going to run on OSX!Ars Technica is reporting that Apple's new line of iPods will indeed be introduced in September, in line with recent speculation and rumors. But contrary to the report provided by AppleInsider yesterday, the announcement will not be happening mid-to-late September. The company plans to drop the bomb on us with a major unveiling during the first week of September—specifically, September 5, according to sources. Four different models will be introduced next month, says AI, most of which will be NAND-flash-based and major evolutions of both the iPod video and iPod nano lines. Sources in the "far East" have allegedly seen fullscreen iPods that will have an OS that is based off of OS X. "What's interesting, however, is that the Apple has also been working on Mac O...

When CEOs Aren't Leaders
2007-08-24 22:52:00
Businessweek has just published a great story about CEO who aren't actually leaders, there is a fundamental problem with today's CEO especially in corporate America. Too many execs focus on profits and fail to build trust and inspire employees. Thanks to the lot of CEOs and Enron, WorldCom, and other corporate scandals, the image of the corporate CEO has taken a pounding. While Americans generally strive for and celebrate achievement and success, they are increasingly sickened by the narcissism, greed, and other "me first" antics of such CEOs.The problem lays in the fact that the terms "CEO" and "leader" have mistakenly become synonymous. Nothing could be further from the truth.CEOs are measured by quantitative results. Lead ers are shaped and defined by character. CEOs are expected to boost sales, improve profit margins, and make money for shareholders. Leader s inspire and enable others to do excellent work and realize their potential. As a result, they build successful, enduring...
Is the digital pen mightier?
2007-08-24 22:34:00
I've just read a nice article on Cnet which offers a look at the world of digital pens and their evolution.CNET News.com For decades, tech companies have been trying to create a digital pen that appeals to the masses. But after years of effort, the world isn't exactly overrun with high-tech quills. A new crop of companies, however, say it's too soon to write off the idea. This week, Irvine, Calif.-based Iogear announced plans for a digital pen that can work with standard paper. Last month, educational computer maker LeapFrog introduced the FlyFusion, its second go at the digital pen. And later this year, Silicon Valley start-up LiveScribe plans to introduce a $200 device that can not only take digital notes, but also synchronize them with an audio recording. The latest bunch are a far cry from the earliest attempts to add a brain to the standard Bic. But the question remains: Will these new devices be more than a curiosity? Or will they, like their predecessors, find themse...

Your Take: How Successful Apple's iPhone is?
2007-08-23 21:47:00
After running our poll for about 50 days, I can say that most of you think that its a going to be a smashing hit. 76.2% voted that Apple's iPhone will become an all time best seller, you are also convinced that there's going to be another Halo effect. What is the Halo effect? Simple, Its that magical force that has made iPod users much more likely to purchase a Mac after being so satisfied with their shiny iPod.Well I'm betting and so do 76.2% of you, that we will soon see an iPhone Halo effect, those really satisfied iPhone owners will rush out and get a Mac. 23.8% voted that unlike the iPod, the iPhone is going to be a big failure, and that Apple CEO Steve Jobs lost his magic touch. Which I really wouldn't bet on, from what we know so far demand for the iPhone is solid and pretty strong as a new UBS research shows shows."Our checks and discussions with Apple and AT&T store representatives continue to indicate relatively solid demand for the iPhone despite a significan...

Google brings ads to Youtube
2007-08-22 21:10:00
Well it has finally happened, Googl e began live testing of advertising on Youtube , It sounds to me pretty straightforward and advanced, the question is how would users respond.I think Google worked really hard no to mess up the experience in the process of implementing their ads, so I believe that it may be a bit hard to get used to however in the long run it will become the standard in web advertising and no doubt Google will capitalize on its $1.65 billion acquisition of Youtube.Interesting to see how it develops.Google is finally rolling out an advertising format for YouTube that could succeed where many others have failed: it's not annoying. By Greg Sandoval Cnet Google's YouTube will feature ads that are similar to a model used by TV broadcasterfor years, the company said Tuesday. Googling for Gold!
2007-08-19 19:26:00
Where was you money on the morning of Aug 19, 2004?In case you don't recognize the date, that's the day three years ago when Googl e (GOOG) became a public company after selling 22.5 million shares of stock at the now laughable price of $85.So much has change since then, Google then the relatively new search company was actually 3 years old back then and had about 35% of the search market and was generating nearly a billion dollars a year from delivering ads and related Web links alongside search results. Many people thought that Google maybe a good investment, they've never imagined the 478% return on the IPO price, now Google trades around 500$ a share. And while Google had introduced a handful of tools, including a blogging tool, that suggested it had ambitions well beyond bread-and-butter search, few investors could have predicted how powerful, expansive, and successful the company would become. In the past three years, Google has grown from a simple search engine worth around ...

A Virtual Gold Mine
2007-08-18 16:47:00
Here's a great story about VMware's IPO , I think they're a really great company with some great products. While the rest of the stock market was taking a wild roller-coaster ride this week, a tech public offering got a warm welcome from investors. By Steven Musil Cnet News Investors in VMware's initial public offering got a rocket ride as the highly anticipated IPO launched out of the gate with an initial trade of $52 a share. VMware investors who snapped up shares at $29 a pop as part of the IPO offering reaped a profit of 79 percent on that first trade. VMware's stellar stock offering shows that virtual machines are starting to add up to real dollars. Virtual machines, the technology that VMware helped pioneer, allow one computer to act as many, whether it's a Mac running Windows and the Mac operating system at the same time or a massive server running multip...

Is the Skype outage really a big deal?
2007-08-18 16:33:00
Here's an interesting Cnet article regarding the Skype outage we had on Yesterday.by Marguerite Reardon Cnet News Skype's service appears to be up and running again for the most part, after software issues Thursday prevented millions of Skype users from signing on to the IP telephony application. Skype officials say the outage was not due to a cyberattack or network upgrades. Instead they attributed the issue to "a deficiency in an algorithm within Skype networking software. This controls the interaction between the user's own Skype client and the rest of the Skype network." As of 11 a.m. GMT Friday, the company said that the software had started to stabilize. Some users have reported spotty service, but when I tried the service earlier today, it worked just fine. Pundits and bloggers are already lining up to take swipes at Skype, which is owned by eBay. Some say the service hiccup could hurt the company's reputation and potentially cost th...

Is the big crisis in the markets are over or is it simply a weekend break? In the last couple of weeks we have witnessed a crazy turmoil going on the world markets as the Sub-prime crisis in the US got even deeper and it practically spread worldwide like an epidemic, whipping out billions of billions of public's savings. What started the crisis? Its Basically pretty simple, About a month ago, rumors have started to spread in the US that the Sub-prime lending is on a rock, more specifically The Federal Reserve has been pumping new money into the economy for decades. A lot of this new money, not surprisingly, has found its way into the mortgage markets. With Wall Street's "securitization" of the mortgage industry, close examination of mortgage borrowers disappeared. Banks and mortgage companies had incentives to originate mortgage loans, but since they sold the mortgages off (via securitization)...
