Kevin Rose latest flick!
2007-07-10 19:24:00
Hello folks, I've just finished reading a great story on Businessweek I thought worth mentioning. Its about Kevin Rose latest venture called: Pownce. And its quite an amazing story. I really like Kevin and admire his spirit of entrepreneurship, and he's really bold!Seriously I think he and Jay Adelson has done a terrific job over at Digg and at Revision3.What I particularly like about Rose is his great sense of style, and his notion of how users approach and treat different internet services, I think its a great skill he has acquired during his past ventures.Anyway investors are observing Rose moves and willing to invest more than ever before even though all of his previous companies have been cashed out. Not yet anyway. The new project (as Rose calls it) Pownce is a social network which put an emphasis on sharing files between friends, Which currently is in a closed invitation based beta.(I'd love to get an Invitation if anyone is registered ). I think that it certainly an intere...

2007-07-08 18:51:00
Tobin Smith has published his insights about Apple's stock with an exclusive 2 iPhone stocks. As he previously reported AAPL is heading towards 200$ due to the an ever strong demand for Macs and iPhones. What's interesting is that he's research has found that the halo effect will kick off "magically" once again with the iPhone towards the Mac."When you bring home your new shiny iPhone you're not gonna want to plug it to your old crappy PC, you're gonna want a new shiny Mac.Boldinvestors latest and greatest posts: including news items, editorial takes, investing opportunities ideas, and much more.

Linux On Fire!
2007-07-07 11:53:00
Hello folks, Linux just seems to be on fire recently as dell is pushing Ubuntu to more and more of its machines, makes them even cheaper with Ubuntu as opposed to Windows, and there has been rumors that even Michael Dell uses Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 4.04 on his notebook the Dell Precision M90. Anyway I think Linux, particularly Ubuntu is going to hit the mainstream pretty soon, as more and more companies introduce there own version of Ubuntu preinstalled on their systems in order to keep up with Dell. As the open source industry develops its important to keep in mind that its not just the OS that are being developed its an entire softare industry as well as big companies like Google for instance introducing there own version of their apps for Linux, like google desktop which works pretty well in my opinion. (Ars Technica review)I also ran across an intriguing headline over at Slashdot that 2008 is gonna be the year of the Linux:"Over at Maximum PC, we're betting that Linux will pic...

iPhone's first weekend 700,000 sold, 200 MIL+ profit
2007-07-04 19:17:00
Well the numbers for iPhone's first weekend is out, and it just blows away the expectations and rumors. Apple+AT&T have sold 700,000 units during the weekend. Apple gained over 200$ million profit. That is one great opening for the most hyped product of the decade.According to MacNN, Apple is said to have sold out of iPhones in 95 of 164 stores and AT&T has nearly depleted its entire stock. The report quotes American Technology Research predicting that the iPhone would likely be AT&T’s fastest ever selling product and that the iPhone could rank among the fastest selling consumer electronics devices of all time. Based on the cost of manufacturing an iPhone (see post July 2), Apple would have made a profit of between $200million and $266 million in 3 days (not including marketing costs), on sales somewhere between $350million and $420million, significantly more than earlier estimates of Apple having a $300million weekend. Saying the iPhone has been successful at this point woul...

Apple secures iPhone.com for seven-figure sum
2007-07-03 21:09:00
A last minute bid by Apple Inc. to acquire the iPhone.com domain ahead of the gadget's launch on Friday is reported to have netted its previous registrant a seven-digit sum. Jay Westerdal of Name Intelligence claims in his company's DomainTools Blog that Apple has bought iPhone.com, reportedly taking control of the URL from domain owner Michael Kovatch for what could be "at least a million dollar sale."Kovatch had registered the domain well before Apple chief Steve Jobs' return to his company, signing up for the address in 1995 and in more recent years using the site for an online cellphone store dubbed The Internet Phone Company. This gave him the legal right to use the site and to turn down Apple's offer -- which he initially did, according to Westerdal. The owner was reportedly motivated by serious interest in using the site for profit. "He was holding out because he truly wanted to use the domain," Westerdal said. "He considered not selling at the very end, [as] he had regi...

Take off your suit pants and jacket -It's Web 2.0
2007-07-03 20:37:00
Hello folks, I've just read a nice article about the changing culture of the tech industry or as better phrased these days: Web 2.0 . Web 2.0 (a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003 and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004 ) refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. O'Reilly Media titled a series of conferences around the phrase, and it has since become widely adopted[citation needed] in some contexts. Although the term hints at a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to web technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users have used the web platform. Tim O'Reilly provides a definition oriented towards commerce and rules: "Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, ...

iPhone fastest selling Apple product in history?
2007-07-02 19:53:00
Yeah i know you're all sick of that iWeek we've got, but I thought this story is quite a surprise.I've just a post on Apple insider that the iPhone could turn out being the fastest selling product in Apple's history. I think that if it does turn out to be, its just amazing not so much in financial but in marketing terms. You see, Apple has marketed it geniusly, for start it announced it 6 months pre-launch (FCC approval reasons, according to Steve Jobs), I think that the actual reason was a brilliant marketing stunt.Think about that's 6 months of BUZZ, of TV appearances, blogs, podcasts and so much more.. Many have called the iPhone the most hyped product of the century, they're right, but I think Apple, aside from marketing have done a fabulous job on the device itself making it exceed most people's expectations. "Our sources indicate that iPhone will likely become the fastest selling product in Apple's history and not to mention likely among the fastest (if not the fastest...

iPhone to the rescue!
2007-07-01 12:33:00
Marketwatch has posted an intriguing story about how the iPhone could help AT&T to battle Verizon, and yes it sure needs it Since AT&T Inc.'s mobile-phone business took the U.S. market lead in 2004, Verizon Wireless has been steadily narrowing the gap, and was poised to recapture the No. 1 spot within a few years. At least until the iPhone came along. While it's too early to tell how well the Apple Inc. (AAPL) phone will sell, the introduction of one of the most anticipated consumer-electronic products in American history clearly has the potential to reshape an already intense rivalry between AT&T and Verizon. At the end of the first quarter, Verizon cut AT&T's lead in the United States to just 1.5 million subscribers from a peak of 5.3 million at the end of 2004. Verizon already generates more revenue from its wireless business than AT&T (T) does -- something the company loves to tout in its press statements. Verizon Wirel...

Does the iPhone hit the spot?
2007-06-30 12:06:00
After months of speculation, Apple Computer has finally pulled the wraps off its iPhone. "Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone, and here it is," company CEO Steve Jobs said during a keynote speech at Macworld on Tuesday, as he presented the iPhone.CNET News.com The thin combo device has a multitouch-screen, scrolling navigation and a 2-megapixel camera, as well as the iPod music and video player and phone. It runs Mac OS X and will let people send e-mail and check the Web at the same time as they're on a call. The quad-band GSM/EDGE device, which can also switch to Wi-Fi networks, will be offered in partnership with carrier Cingular in the U.S. starting in June at a price of $499 for a 4GB model, with a two-year contract, and $599 for an 8GB model. It is expected to ship in Europe in the fourth quarter and in Asia in 2008. Given all the buzz that's been building around a possible iPhone, the device could have failed to meet expectations. To find out what people on the st...

iPhone Disassembly
2007-06-30 03:01:00
Hi all, we're in the middle of the iPhone hype, iFixit has just posted Disassembly pics.Opening the casing is a "little bit tricky," the company says. The black trim at the back of the phone is a plate that both creates a clear signal and detaches cleanly from the rest of the case. Completely removing the back panel, however, requires disconnecting the headphone jack's cable. Inside, the battery is said to be "huge" relative to the size of the phone, and is a 3.7-volt lithium-ion polymer battery. The pack is soldered to the phone's logic board but is removable. Rear panels hold both the SIM card slot and the headphone connector. There is very little at the front of the logic board: the screen, speaker, and touch sensor connectors are the only real protrusions. The logic board is also currently a source of mystery. It splits into two sections, but the largest portion -- which contains the flash memory, processor, and other chips -- is currently difficult to view without damaging ...

Tobin Smith has just posted an interesting insights on his latest research where Apple is going next,he seems fairly optimistic about the stock giving it a 200$ price target.Further more Smith notes that the real shocker will be the huge amount of market share that Macintosh computers are ready to take, starting in October when Apple's new Leopard operating system comes out. he offered a 200$ price target for the next 12-18 months.Smiths is forecasting a $50 a share from Mac computer sales, plus a rerun of the halo effect of iPhone's users to be more likely to switch to a Mac.Read all about his latest research its a nice good read.Make sure to leave your AAPL predictions below.Boldinvestors latest and greatest posts: including news items, editorial takes, investing opportunities ideas, and much more.
