It Just Takes A Minute Of Your Time
2008-01-12 07:27:00
Yes! That’s all it takes - a minute of your time to say Thank You! It’s not possible to thank people enough for their efforts. Nothing motivates more effectively than the overt, emotional, unconditional feedback of an honest thank –you. Whether it’s a child, a friend, an employee, or a boss, an emotional thank – you works miracles - Richard Saunders So what’s the idea? Well, the idea here is to thank one person who has tremendously helped us in every single way during our blogging journey. Sometimes it’s just nice to give back. Although we are not giving much, a sincere thank you alone at times is more than enough. If they had enough time to help you out, you should have a minute to thank them. Let’s make use of this post to do just that. How do we thank them? What do we do? Nothing much. Just participate and thank one person you would like to thank when it comes to blogging. The person might have helped you setup your blog, helped you write better, h...

Before You Hit Publish …
2008-01-10 22:07:00
Although it might seem like there is nothing much to do after you write that killer content and hit publish, there is a lot of things you need to consider. I have been blogging for couple months and during this time I have learned some things that has helped me grow my blog and audience. Here are a few things that I have found very useful for myself before I hit the publish button ( please note that these are my personal preference ), What Time Of Day Do You Hit Publish ? I find this to be very important. Assuming that you submit your post to social media sites to gain some attention, this can make a lot of difference. Most social media voters are active during night or early in the morning. Why? We all have jobs and other things to do during the day and might not be able to read or vote on articles that we want. Sites like Digg and StumbleUpon have active users 24/7 but still during the night there is more activity. Try writing a killer content and post it on digg at night and see ...

2008-01-09 03:32:00
The best way to learn, as usual, is to observe and listen to others. We as bloggers are constantly trying to find new ways to learn and soak up some tips on blogging. This will also give me a chance to link out to all the wonderful readers who participated in this game. Are you ready to read some of the best tips on blogging by some of the most helpful bloggers? I bet you are! So here it is, A-Z of Blogging - For the bloggers, By the bloggers A Always end your post asking readers to participate Ritu B Be diligent about posting on a regular basis. Networking - Just Do It
2008-01-07 01:56:00
Guest post by Fiar from Humor Blogging What does it take to get noticed by a more influential blogger? It’s something we all strive to do, but we often feel as if we need to know a secret handshake for entry into an exclusive club. Mariam from Money Relations asked a question that exemplifies this sentiment: I have a question: A lot has been made about the importance of having powerful network friends. What is your view on this? Obviously, we want to get connected to the right people, but how do you network with people beyond your blog social status? I always get intimidated as I don’t have anything to offer to the big blogs. What I’ve been comfortable with is networking within my own blog peer group and I find that we are of great support to each other. How do I break through this social barrier? Mariam isn’t the only one with this view of being in a different sphere from more influential bloggers. It’s pretty much everyone who has this concern, and ...

The “ Use a Letter, Share a Blogging Tip “ Game
2008-01-05 00:55:00
Well, it’s time for some play here at Work N Play. I have been trying to come up with games every once in a while but at times my mind just seems to shut when it comes to coming up with something creative. Well, I try! I am not sure how this game will come across but just bare with me as I tried. When I was setting my 2008 blogging goals, one thing I had in mind was to help out other bloggers while learning from them. Well, that’s exactly what we will try and do in this game. Whether we have 10 readers or 50,000 we have all gained knowledge about blogging in some way or the other. And we all have something that might be valuable for somebody else. How The Heck Do We Play “Use a Letter , Share a Blogging Tip” Game ? Sounds cool huh! Anyways, here are the details on how this game will be played. Each commenter will pick one letter and make a sentence out of it which will be related to blogging. The letters will go in order. For example, A,B,C and so on ….. I will start a sent...
Networking - The Right Way
2008-01-03 15:16:00
What is one thing that we need to do in order to be known? What is the secret to building contacts? How do we get to know people whose interest are similar to ours? How do we find people who can help us boost our business and/or traffic? You guessed it right - Network! Networking doesn’t mean keeping tabs on everyone you’ve met since you were 5 years old. Networking is something that you do in order to build your contacts and resources that might benefit you and others in one way or the other. Some people are born with networking talents, they get out there and make friends easily whereas for some it is a learned act. I have learned networking the hard way. After running two small businesses both in the real world and on the internet and seeing two of my blogs die, I think I have learned some lessons on how to network to gain the most out of it. Whether you are a born networking genius or a person trying to learn the ropes, we all know networking is the key to success a...

Prepare Your Posts Before You Cook It
2008-01-01 22:29:00
What comes before cooking? Prep aration! Without a well prepared recipe a good food is something that is not possible. And the same rule applies while writing a post. Although most of the times we bloggers tend to just sit and start writing about something, once in a while it is worth to prepare a post before you start writing it. A well written post will not only bring you traffic but will help you establish yourself as an expert or worth somebody’s time. My previous post How To Write An Effective Post - A Simple Guide also gives some example on how we can write a post to provide more information on a particular subject. Instead of writing just for the sake of updating your blog, preparing your post with insights and value will prove to be worth much more to your readers. Here are some tips on how you can prepare a post before you publish. Let’s get started, #1. Analyze your readers and the purpose of the post. Plan your post so it provides specific information that wil...

How To Write An Effective Post - A Simple Guide

“Ahh! This post is going to gain some attention ’cause it is such an informative post.” The above sentence might be something you think of when you come up with a great idea or subject that you want to write about on your blog. The post might be very informative but at times how you present it matters a lot when it comes to persuading others to believe in the information you are providing. There are six steps I find very important to make a post effective and to support your subject or idea while writing, Example Explanation Statistics Testimony Comparison Visual Aid To give you a detailed example on how we can use these six steps I am going to write about TNX which I have found pretty useful when it comes to earning money online. Discover The Secrets To Success
2007-12-26 22:53:00
Success to some can come easy and to some it’s years and years of hard work. Sometimes the best thing that can motivate us towards reaching our goals can be as simple as words by someone else. The other day I picked up an old book ” Jump Start Your Brain ” by Doug Hall. Although old the the content in the text is something we can apply forever. As I was reading I came across some quotes that might be just the thing we need to discover the secrets to success. Although simple, these quotes provide very powerful meaning and insight and what we should do in order to reach the peak of success. All quotes by Richard Saunders Every shot you don’t take is a guaranteed miss This one is a no brainer. If you have an idea make sure to put it in action. If you take a shot, it’s either a hit or a miss. If you don’t, it’s a guaranteed miss. Put that idea in paper and in action, trust me, with determination you will get where you want. When familiar people try to solve fa...

“Deck the halls with bought of holly, Fa la la la la la, la la la la. Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la la, la la la la.” Ahem! Well, I don’t sing very well I guess, but that’s not the point. It’s Christmas and it’s about enjoying and spending time with family and friends. I am not sure why you are on the computer ’cause you should be with your friends and family, enjoying the holiday spirit (I am getting off right after this post, just in case you are wondering ). My last post I had asked readers to share their Christmas posts they had written on their blogs. So here is a list of links that will direct you to some Christmas Posts that you might enjoy, just in case you are on the computer. After you are done looking through the links, be sure to check out the link to the You Tube video, it might boost your Christmas spirit up even more What Christmas Means to Me It’s Called Christmas with a Capital “C” Holiday Gifting My Chr...

Share Your Christmas Spirit - Gift Swap
2007-12-22 20:28:00
We all know Christmas is about giving. Although I would like to give my readers a lot more, at the moment all I can give is some link backs and entrecard credits. This post is for the readers and the bloggers. I try to post a “weekend links post” every Saturday or Sunday for the readers to browse through. This time I thought it would be fun to share some Christmas Spirit . Most of you probably have already written a post on Christmas so share it with me and other readers. All you need to do is link your posts through the comments. Simply, leave a comment on what makes Christmas so special for you and if you have written a post on Christmas simply add the link to your Christmas post where it says ” Website ” on the comment box. This will minimize the links on the comments and we will be able to read your Christmas Post by clicking on your name. All commenters who have written a Christmas Post ( and share something that makes Christmas so special for them throu...

2008 Blogging Goals
2007-12-21 02:49:00
The year 2008 is almost here and it’s time to set some goals. Goals that are achievable and realistic. I have been blogging for a couple months and honestly, until now I haven’t had any goals besides increasing reader numbers ( it’s still one of the goals for 2008 ). I have come to realize that goal setting is a major part of any project, for being a 25 year old I guess I am realizing it a little too late. Anyways, I have some goals set as a blogger for 2008 and blogging in general. Here are some of my goals that I would like to achieve as a blogger in 2008. These goals are in no order, each of them is a goal I want to attain sometimes during the year 2008 and each holds equal importance. Read More Blogs The best way to become a good blogger is by reading other blogs. I read quite a few blogs now but I would like to increase that number. The reason for this is simple - to learn and become better at what I am trying to do and that is blogging. Also, the goal of re...

The Blogging Ladder
2007-12-19 04:07:00
Different bloggers look at blogging differently. Money, passion, desire to share knowledge, all are valid reason to start blogging. But how exactly can you make blogging effective? This is one of those question that can be answered in many different ways - writing killer content, aggresive marketing, hosting contests, guest posting, commenting, social networking. All of these can be true but sometimes the most effective way to make your blogging fun and rewarding is to climb the steps necessary to reach the top. All of us as bloggers have different techniques that we would like to apply to become successful. This post refers to my technique. Here is what I call the The Blogging Ladder where the steps are the letters in the word “Blogging” itself. I hope these steps are something we can climb on our quest to reach the top. Be creative Creating content is half the battle won when it comes to your posts. The other half can be won by being creative. Every blog has its own pe...
The Don’t Worry Post For New Bloggers
2007-12-17 04:18:00
Blogging can be quite stressful at times. If you just started your blog and can’t find a way to gain readers or visitors the feeling is nothing but frustrating. We have all been there at some point in time. Blogging Stress is one of the main reason many bloggers stop blogging within couple months or couple weeks for that matter. Here are some tips to save yourself the stress that comes with blogging. Don’t Worry About Writing Killer Content Yes! Content is the king when it comes to the success of any ( most ) blog. But at the beginning of your blogging career you need to focus more on creating content rather than killer content. It takes time for everything. Some people are really good at expressing things verbally but are not that good when it comes to expressing it in writing. Practice makes you perfect. Don’t worry about writing killer content. Just create content and go with the flow. As you keep writing and reading other blogs you will see, gradually the quality of your c...

Interview With Skellie - Skelliewag.Org
2007-12-13 23:20:00
As promised it’s time for another interview. I am glad that most of the bloggers I have asked for an interview have been very helpful. Learning from them on what they did to make their blog successful is a great way to achieve success for new bloggers. I had a chance to interview Skellie from Skelliewag.org. Skelliewag is a blog about blogging and if you haven’t checked it out you are missing out on a whole lot. Without wasting any time, let’s get right to the interview, here is Skellie from Skelliewag I am just curious as to why skelliewag.org and not .com or .net? As it seems everybody shoots for the .com and .net first? Skellie: I decided to use the .org extension after visiting GetRichSlowly.org. I thought it was a strange choice for a personal finance site, but there was something nice about it — it made the blog seem a little warmer and more community oriented. I decided to use it on my own blog for that reason. I also think it’s a little more u...

4 Ways to Better Learning and Increased Productivity
2007-12-12 16:43:00
All work and no play is never a good thing. Being that this is a guest post at “Work N Play” and not “Work N More Work”, I thought I’d offer some advice on how you can better do your work so that you still have time to play. I hear many complaints from friends, family, and colleagues that there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish what they want. One reason for this is because we are not very efficient with our time. Other times, we just don’t know how to go about solving problems or how to ask for help. This post is aimed at helping you make the most out of your limited time. These tips alone are a major reason why I was able to get through college and graduate school. I’m sure that they will prove helpful to you throughout your daily life as they can be applied to almost everything we do, especially blogging! So without further ado, here are the four things to keep in mind to help you learn more efficiently and to increas...

After a month long silence one of my favorite blogger finally decided to write a post on his blog, SmartWealthyRich and the post made it clear why exactly he hasn’t been able to post for that long. SWR is a conversational blog that talks about productivity, blogging, entrepreneurship and everything else. The thing that I find very positive about this blog is Jon has been able to create a networking tool through his blog, so to speak. His every post engages discussion among the commenters and therefore he has built a loyalty within the readers giving him and the blog itself more exposure. There are different factors that makes a blog successful and lately it’s all about blog subscribers. SmartWealthyRich has 499 subscribers while I am writing this post. What I find very amazing is the loyalty among readers for this blog. Notice I wrote ” after a month long silence ” above, exactly, the blog hasn’t been updated for a month and the readers were and are st...

Reporter vs Expert - Why Most Bloggers Are Stuck Reporting
2007-12-07 18:57:00
There are basically two types of bloggers in the world - reporters and experts - and some people perform both roles (usually the experts, it’s hard for reporters to become experts, but it’s easy for experts to report). If you have ever taken an Internet marketing course or attended a seminar specifically for beginners, you have probably heard about the two different methodologies. Whenever the business model is based on content, and if you blog for money then the model is based on content, people are taught to either start as reporters, or if possible step up as experts. I’ll be frank, you want to be the expert. Reporter s leverage the content of the experts and in most cases people start off as reporters because they haven’t established expertise. Expert s enjoy the perks of preeminence, higher conversion rates because of perceived value, it’s easier to get publicity, people are more likely to seek you out rather than you having to seek others out, joint ventures come easie...

48 Video Sharing Sites
2007-12-06 18:13:00
Online video is one of the most effective way to market yourself and your blog or business. With the rise of user generated videos from users around the world, this has added another dimension to the internet marketing. These videos created by users like you and me are then embedded into blogs or websites and shared with friends and families via email. If the video is liked by many, it will also be shared by many, giving you rapid exposure. Ofcourse, to be able to do that we need service from sites like You Tube which allows us to share videos. Although, You Tube is the ” Big Dog ” when it comes to sharing videos, others sites and services shouldn’t be ignored. The more the better, it allows you to expose your business or blog to more people from around the world. I usually try to list sites that offer service that might be useful for you, the readers. This post lists 48 video sharing sites that might be of interest to you. Not that you need to try all of them but ...

10 Reasons You Shouldn’t Comment On Blogs
2007-12-03 03:45:00
Commenting - a great way to communicate, proven way to generate traffic and for some, a perfect way to spam, humiliate and degrade others. After reading a post at Problogger few days ago I had to write how I felt when it comes to commenting on blogs. Before going any further, I would like to quick point out the meaning of the word comment according to dictionary.com Now that we know what exactly comments should do, let’s take a look at why some people shouldn’t comment in regards to blog commenting, #10. You Are Annoying You might not realize but the blogger and everybody else does. YOU ARE ANNOYING, plain and simple. Your comments add nothing but may be a link to your own site. This only causes you to be seen once as you have proved yourself a spammer. After that you never get to comment on that particualr blog. Sayonara sucker! #9. Your Comments Are Irrelevant To The Post Why even bother commenting on a post if you are not adding value to the post. I myself try to en...

Where Do You Hide?
2007-11-30 23:44:00
We all need some time to be alone. Especially if you are a blogger stuck in front of the computer for hours a hideout away from it is much needed. As for me, I hide in the basement. Call me crazy but this is how I get out of the daily stress of blogging. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous and may be a little creepy as well. As bloggers, we all have times when we just want to get away from the DAMN computer and find a place where there is nothing to bother or stress us out. To me it’s my unfinished basement. A blogger’s life isn’t as easy and relaxed as most people imagine. The stress of having to update a blog regularly alone can cause a person heart attack ( ok, thats an exaggeration ), and besides blogging we all do have other committments like family, job, social life and a little TV time ofcourse. This post reflects as to where my private sanctuary is, where is my heaven or where I find the peace of mind to just not worry about a thing. You guessed it right - My ...

Google Won’t Last Forever
2007-11-27 16:00:00
A tree can only hold so many apples, and the same rule applies to Google when it comes to them trying to acquire every thing that seems within their reach. Google has clearly become the undsiputed king ( so far ) in search engine battles. But google’s interest in acquiring services from every market sector might be like swallowing a bone larger than the throat. This post highlights as to why I think google is heading the wrong way and why Google is trying to monopolize the internet. The views and opinion expressed here are mine and might and might not be similar to yours. I just had the urge to write how I feel, so here I am writing it all out as to how I feel about the Big G. Too Many Competitors Competetion is good but when you are surrounded from four corners it might be a little hard to win in the long run. Case in point, google stepping into every market to become the KING. Ok, so what exactly am I talking about and how do I support this way of my thinking, here we go #...
