Global Business Networking
2007-11-26 02:18:00
Social Networking sites are like ” Stop Signs, ” there is one in every corner. Some, we stop and look around and some we pass by without even taking the time to stop and look. With the emergence and growth of so many Social Networking sites it has become of utmost importance to find something that provides us with business networking opportunities in a casual environment. Global Business Networking ( GBN ) does just that. I was invited by the GBN admin to use this site a couple weeks ago and I personally have had a very pleasant experience to say the least. The site is still in its infancy but with due marketing and loyal members, I think this site has a great potential to stand out in the crowded market of Social Networking sites. So, why exactly should you try this site out while you already have your hands full with couple of them? Keep reading and you might find some reasons, if not all as to why you should atleast give this service a chance. I have added quite a few...

To Rojo.com - A Letter Of Disgust
2007-11-24 04:16:00
First to those who don’t know what Rojo is, ” Rojo means “RSS with mojo” and in this spirit our company is dedicated to providing the best feed reader around so that busy people can discover and read content as efficiently as possible. Rojo was selected “best of the Web” for blog reading by the editors of BusinessWeek. To try Rojo for yourself, visit www.rojo.com and create your account (it’s free!). Rojo is entirely web-based, you won’t need to download any software. ” ( source:-rojo.com/corporate/services/) I am little scared to link to it since I don’t want to expose anybody to anything that I deem inappropriate. Here is my letter to Rojo “ Dear Rojo admin, I was disgusted to see some of the content on your site today after I was pointed out by one of my readers that you had adult content. I have been using your services for a while and thought these kind of things weren’t allowed ( I was almost certain until n...

Reading blogs and online sites can boost your knowledge in terms of what’s out there, but sometimes traditional methods of gaining knowledge can be very valuable as well. I subscribe to a lot of magazines besides reading blogs and articles online which has cerainly helped me gather knowledge and information regarding new services and sites. I subscribe to a magazine called ” website magazine ” which has been a very valuable source of information for me in every aspect of my online life. Well, I have nothing to write as I just wanted to quick get opinion from my readers and visitors on something that I have been battling to find an answer. This is your post so write as you feel and discuss with other’s via comments. I constantly find two groups one “for” and the other “against”. Some say if google is becoming a monopolistic figure it’s a good thing because they provide services which are great. The other group argues that monopoly in any form is not good. So what do you think? Is Google Monopolizing The Internet ? Share your thoughts and views and discuss.

Digg Vs. StumbleUpon - And The Winner Is ….
2007-11-21 02:53:00
As a blogger I find myself sucked in deep by DIGG and StumbleUpon and I am pretty sure you are too. I find myself voting and checking some cool articles and pages using these two services. They have become an ever so integral part of my online life. I had a chance to quick check the rankings of both Social Giants and I present to you a post that is purely supported by images as to which site is more popular among ” Web Socialites. ” Personally, I love both StumbleUpon and DIGG and this blog wouldn’t survive without either services. First Round Let Alexa Decide The First Round Alexa Ranking For DIGG - 115 Alexa Ranking For StumbleUpon - 270 And the Winner is DIGG! Second Round Let Ranking Decide The Second Round And the winner is DIGG! Third Round Let Quantcast Decide The Third Round And the winner is DIGG! Make Money Online Using This Service
2007-11-19 01:26:00
Google recently punished quite a few websites for selling text links, stressing the fact that it was not legitimate to do so. This has got many into thinking about using this way of monetizing their sites. So can we still make money selling text links? I think there is an answer and the answer might be utilizing the “text link buy and sell” service offered by TNX.net. When I first came across this site I wasn’t sure what to expect. My first thought was, is it worth it? Does anybody really want to hurt their PR (as it seems to be of utmost importance) by selling text links on their blogs or websites after what Google just did in the last update? That was the first answer I needed, so I headed over to the FAQ section to see if there was anything I could find for an answer. And I did, this is a part from the FAQ that I am posting here, Can search engines somehow identify links sold or purchased through TNX ? Answer: There are no marks of any kind that would let search...

Your Blog, Your Media
2007-11-17 00:12:00
Why do you think a lot of start up companies and web services have started integrating blogs as their major source of marketing? Because their blog becomes their own media, a way for them to personally connect to their targeted customers. I feel that anybody who offers a service, be it a freelancer or somebody who just sells stuff on ebay needs to have a blog. A blog serves a purpose for you as it becomes your own media. Think about it, if Jeremy from Shoemoney wants to offer service or sell something, do you really think he needs to spend a dime to advertise? I don’t think so. His blog alone will bring him enough customers and again most of them being blogger themselves, if they write about it on their blogs, it becomes viral marketing. So why is your blog your own media? Because, 1. You Have Your Own Audience With your blog you already have established your audience - your readers. If your blog attracts good traffic and has a lot of subscribers you already have a certain num...

Peek Into A Blogger’s Life
2007-11-15 15:53:00
I am ready to let it all out. It’s time for me to share with other bloggers and for other bloggers to share it with me. What am I talking about? The burning question that I come across everytime I read a blog is what does the blogger do beside blogging? I am pretty sure you have the same questions arising in your mind as well. Most popular bloggers like Darren, John are pro bloggers and they make enough money to survive off of their blogs but what about us ? We are the “underdogs” and we do have to do something else besides blogging to keep our means rolling. My life as a blogger isn’t easy for one. I have to constantly think about when I am going to have enough time to dedicate myself for a good post ( and if you haven’t found any good post on this blog, that’s why ). I wish I could say I blog fulltime and make enough to make a living but then again you know it, I don’t. My other job besides blogging ( I consider this blog my passion as we...

What Makes Me Subscribe To a Blog?
2007-11-14 03:41:00
In the never-ending struggle to increase your blog readership, generating traffic to your blog is only half the battle. The other half involves retention of traffic, or better yet, to get these visitors to subscribe to your blog. I was inspired after reading Moshin’s article to write a post on what makes me, as a reader, subscribe to a particular blog. In the style of Work n Play, I have given this topic a personal spin by providing five requirements that would make ME subscribe to YOUR blog. 1. Eye Candy Everyone (males and females) like eye candy. Whether it’s Jessica Alba’s beautiful smile, Brad Pitt’s handsome mug, or a well designed webpage, we all enjoy looking at nice things. Simplicity, well coordinated color schemes, innovative designs, elegant font types . . . they all come together to present a powerful first impression to a new visitor. If your site has great content, but doesn’t appeal to the eye, you have already lost the battle! Here are two exampl...

Crazy, Funny Or Inspirational?
2007-11-12 02:28:00
We have all had times during our blogging career when something unexpected happens. You can’t really say whether it was funny, crazy or inspirational. Today, I had been wondering all day as to what to write and finally I had decided not to write anything ( remember, when you have nothing to say, it’s best to say, well, nothing ) until I got an email from a person asking me if I was hiring. Ok, let me clear something first. I don’t own a company or a business, I am not in any position to hire or fire anybody where I work and this email came out of nowhere, asking me if I was interested in hiring him at Work N Play. My first thought as you can imagine was ” Wow, this is crazy ” which later shifted to a laughter and I called it ” Man, that was funny “. After thinking about this email for a while my whole perception changed as to what to think of it. I have never thought of this blog being anything else but just a blog, a way for me to express ...

My 10 Commandments of Blogging
2007-11-10 03:40:00
The 10 commandments - we have all heard of it, most of us have read it and hopefully all of us try to incorporate it into our lives as well. As I was reading the 10 commandements, I thought there should be commandments for blogging as well. I could relate some of the 10 commandments directly to blogging. There needs to be rules, expectations and do’s and dont’s in everything we do and blogging is no exception. The 10 commandments of life guides us to lead life as a better human being and hopefully my 10 commandments of blogging will guide me ( and you if you find it useful ) to become a better blogger. The Ten Commandments Of Blogging 1. Thou Shalt Not Steal If you want to grow as a blogger and make a name for yourself in the field of blogging, this is a big NO! A lot of times we find bloggers longing for good content and they can’t seem to write one. It’s ok. Go ahead write what you can and slowly you will find your content and writing maturing along with ...
The 100th Post - Sending Out a Thank You
2007-11-08 04:18:00
It’s pretty exciting as this marks the 100th post on Work n Play since it started in August 2007. This blog has grown in terms of traffic, hopefully quality and been through many changes and I myself think I am growing as a blogger. I thought of sending out a thank you that is long overdue and what better way to utilize the 100th post. I look at this as a milestone for a new blog and would like to thank one person who has helped me tremendously. I would like to thank Jonathan C. Phillips, a friend of mine who has helped me in every single way to grow and mature as a blogger. Thanks to Jon my blog looks presentable now unlike when it was on Blogger. It was Jon who helped me move all my posts from blogger to WordPress and design and modify the site as well. If it wasn’t for his help I probably would have quit blogging by now. Here is a list of Jon’s blogs that you can visit and I can assure you, you will love each one of them. Smartwealthyrich - This blog is about Co...

Is Web Over Commercialized?
2007-11-04 02:04:00
Most of the time when I watch TV, I am not sure if I am watching commerical between the show or watching the show in between commercials. Lately, with the web being commercialized to the same extent I wouldn’t think twice in comparing ad filled websites with TV shows. Pop - ups, pop - unders, flash animations, ” Wait don’t leave yet ” messages; surfing the web with all these advertisements has become a major annoyance, atleast for me. All the different forms of advertising from banner ads to text links filled blogs has become a turn off for many web users including myself. My blog is no exception as you can see the ads on the sidebar, every body is trying to make money, why not me, right? My point is all these advertisement drives your focus away from the content or service provided by a website which in turn hampers your surfing. If I visit a blog to read a content, that’s exactly what I want to do, not find ads in between the post. Take for example,...
10 Interesting Sites
2007-11-02 18:45:00
If it doesn’t exist on the first page of google it’s not there, right? Wrong! There are plenty of websites that are fun and productive that most of us don’t know about. In this post I have tried to collect some of them that might prove to be useful or plain fun for you to explore. 10. Uncyclopedia This is the contender of Encyclopedia but the only thing that is different is the content itself. All the content and information you will find here are nonsense that are put forward with a straight face. If you are looking for facts and figures this certainly isn’t an option but if you are in need of hours of fun go ahead and check it out. 9. EXPN No, it’s not ESPN. The ‘S’ is replaced by ‘X’ as it stands for Extreme. This site covers the dangerous aspects of sports, such as skating, surfing, motorcross and X Games. You can also find photos and videos of death defying stunts along with the sports column. 8. Bargainist Who doesn&rsqu...

Trial And Error - Learn From Your Mistakes
2007-10-31 16:42:00
One of the most effective ways to learn is from your mistakes. This holds true for your blog as well, as we are constantly trying to gain popularity for our blogs in the blogosphere. Since the launch of this blog in August I myself have made quite a few mistakes which when I look back, at times are embarassing. But this is how we learn, from our mistakes. The first mistake that I encountered was not researching enough on what platform I wanted my blog on. I started this blog on Blogger which is one of the easiest way to start a blog. But again Bloggers’ limited functionality will hurt your blog if you plan to expand it further and are as serious with your blog as I am. If you start on one platform and later decide to change it, one thing that you are going to see hurting your blog is ” you will lose your readers “. While I was switching my blog to Wordpress from Blogger and getting the layout ready I stopped updating for more than a week, the result, I lost almost ...

Tips On Generating Links - My Way
2007-10-30 03:10:00
As bloggers we all know how important it has become to build quality one way links to our blogs. Here are some of the ways I have implemented towards building links that I thought I would share. The entire purpose of this article is to share my technique and tips on link building and gain some from the readers as well. Some of these tips might be unheard of but they have certainly proved to be very effective. Sponsor Popular Blogs One of the best ways to get links from popular blogs is to become a sponsor when they have contests and so on. If you are to buy a link from a popular blog it would easily cost you hundreds of dollars. Instead when they are running contests, offer to become a sponsor for their contest. It doesn’t have to be anything big. It can be as low as ten dollars. This is exactly how I got a link from Shoemoney , a very popular blog with a PR of 6. Shoemoney and John Chow are having a RSS contest to see who can get more subscribers to their feeds. They both o...

Google Pagerank - Can We Stop Bitching Now?
2007-10-28 22:06:00
Its been a couple days since google updated the Pagerank and as we all know there has been quite a few stir up on the internet community. Every blog you read and every forum you visit you will find something being talked about the Google ’s recent pagerank update ( including this blog ). I just think its about time we leave google alone and get back to what we all do, write and provide good content for our readers and viewers. No, this post doesn’t contrradict with what I wrote about the pagerank on my previous post, all I am saying is we need to stop bitching at some point in time and now seems about a good time ( its a little past due to be honest ). Google is google, a search engine giant and the provider of many services that we use for free. We all have opinions, that is what makes us an individual different from others. So certainly we all have our own thoughts and opinion on Google as well but do we have to bash it out every other day? I don’t think so. I ha...

ListBums - Create Lists, Share, Generate Traffic
2007-10-27 19:36:00
You may have noticed most all media, technology, even household tasks are represented in “lists”. Top ten, bottom 10, best 50 or “to do”…lists. ListBums is a community driven online multimedia platform where people can share information that combines text, photos and videos in an easy to read list format. Taking YouTube to the next level, ListBum users mix information on topics of interest, current events or breaking news stories and illustrate their points with embedded videos and pictures from all over the web. The user experience is both engaging and entertaining as lists are posted, shared, rated, added to and commented on by other ListBummers. ListBum multimedia lists can be embedded onto your blog, website or favorite social networking site. Without redirecting viewers to listbums.com, readers can view content, add list items and rate lists directly from third party websites. Google Pagerank - It’s a Class System
2007-10-25 18:23:00
The recent pagerank update compelled me to write this article. I am not going to write about whose PR went down and whose went up cause honestly I dont really care ;-). This does not imply that I myself don’t want a pagerank for my blog. As a matter of fact, its become more of a need than want. To be honest I have never liked the Pagerank system that google introduced a couple years ago. It defeats the purpose of maintaining the quality and integrity of a site as many of us solely build blogs and sites to gain that PR right away( popularity helps in quickly monetizing a website or a blog if you are serving advertisement ), ignoring the important fact such as content and other related things that makes a site worthy of anybody’s time. So, what do I really mean by the the topic ” Google Pagerank - It’s a Class System “? Well, in the real world, society has been divided into two groups, upper class and lower class. Individuals with money are ranked at the...

Tips on Generating Traffic - My Way
2007-10-25 01:00:00
I am relatively new in the field of blogging, although I wouldn’t mind calling myself a survivor in the blogosphere. After the premature death of two of my blogs and a a new one rising slowly, I have been able to gather some thoughts and to do’s that I think might help others as well in generating a little bit of traffic. Things you read here might be something you already know and have already applied. I just felt the urge to let it out what I think is a good way to get traffic for all the bloggers out there. Charity Starts At Home When you start a blog the first thing you will notice is the dead traffic. You have written twenty posts within ten days and all in vain, whats the point in writing if nobody is reading it, right? Well, here is the catch. Don’t remember your family and friends only when you need money or free beer. Sometimes they can be the biggest booster for your traffic as well. As the saying goes ” Charity Starts At Home”, go ahead and t...

Traffic - It Takes Time
2007-10-24 04:41:00
We all know how hard it is to get traffic when you first start a blog or any website. There are some things most of us fail to realize while we wait for that suddent rush of traffic - it takes time! Work N Play is my third blog and my 2 other blogs have been dead for almost a year ( R.I.P ), the sad part is those two blogs didn’t last even 2 months before I burned them to death. Why? I wasn’t getting enough traffic, was it a good enough reason to let those two babies die so early? I dont think so. All the blogs that we regularly visit weren’t as popular as they are now at some point in time, they had to work and wait patiently for that to happen. Everything takes time, growing from a toddler to adulthood, growing from a seed to a plant and it is no different when it comes to blog or any other site for that matter. You need to fall so you can learn to get up I take the quote above as a matra in life. Yes, we do things and at times we fall hard. Think about a baby, ...

2007-10-24 01:55:00
Whewwwww, what a week! Let me tell you that it has been one heck of a crazy week between trying to get this blog ready and flying back and forth from Maryland visiting my family. But I did get two things I needed and wanted to do for a long time. I got this blog switched to WordPress ( Yes!!!! ) and met my family members whom I had not seen for years. Anyways, back to the topic. As you can see Work N Play is new and much easier to browse and navigate through. Also you will see some new options now such as advertising and featured blog. Featured blog is my attempt to give other bloggers a little bit of edge while they start out, I didn’t have much so may be this will help others a little. Also as you know, this blog updated pretty much everyday and now its been almost over a week since the last update. The only thing is from now on I will try to write and incorporate other subjects as well ( news, my ideas, opinion, thoughts, ramblings and so on ) besides information on web app...

Mofuse – Get your site mobile ready
2007-10-14 05:17:00
As we all know, mobile browsing is growing in popularity by the minute. With phones like iPhone and Palm and other smart phones, browsing web through a mobile gadget has become a must for people on the go. Most people or businesses do not seem to realize how important it is to get their mobile site ready. It probably was quite a work before, not anymore. Mofuse, a service that lets you turn your site into a mobile ready site is one of the most simple service I have used. The process is simple, you log into your account and just follow the instructions like, add your URL and Page title and RSS feed ( if your site supports RSS feeds , if not you can skip this and still be able to creat one ). You can also add header images and choose different colors for your mobile site. Now the part that might make you a little hesitant, when you get your site ready for the mobile devices, your URL won’t be the same as you would use on your browser. You have to pick an ‘id’ which integrates wi...
