MI5 and MI6 wants you! Well, kinda?
2007-11-27 09:50:00 The BBC was reporting yesterday that Asian MI5 and MI6 officers are speaking up to encourage more Asians and other ethnic minorities to join the service. (I do hate the term “ethnic minorities”!). This deep understanding of other cultures by having officers from those respective cultures is an invaluable tool for protecting the UK’s interests, and I applaud the security services for making such a strong move in the recruitment. Live monitoring software on a USB Stick
2007-11-26 10:23:00 The USB SnoopTeK Stick is a blend of technologies to create an effective and useful surveillance device. The SnoopTeK Stick is a fairly standard USB memory stick with capacities in 512MB and 1GB variations. The real magic is in the software which features real-time monitoring of a target computer, installed in 60 seconds straight from the memory stick! Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. CCTV Surveillance Kit with a 7-inch TFT Screen
2007-11-23 09:49:00 It’s not that often that I get a little excited about a CCTV kit, but for some reason I really like those portable TFT screens that seem to be everywhere these days. This inexpensive Colour CCTV Monitoring Kit features an external CCTV camera and 7 inch TFT screen that’s packed with features. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. Spy cameras smaller than your fingertip
2007-11-21 09:55:00 Not just one tiny spy camera for you today, but two! A Korean company has produced the world?s smallest VGA camera module, measuring a tiny 5.5 mm x 5.5mm and just 2.9 mm thick. It’s rather amusing that the camera adaptor is larger than the camera itself! These are cameras used for mobile phones, but could easily be concealed within other gadgets for spy purposes. That said, the electronics and batteries would quickly swamp the tiny camera. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Lie Detectors used in call centres
2007-11-20 09:34:00 There are a few stories of stress detection (read lie detection) software being used in call centres to help combat fraud. Currently, the software has been trialled in the UK to detect benefit fraud cases and is now being rolled out into production. The software uses a type of technology called voice risk analysis (VRA) that detects subtle changes in the voice to quantify the risk that the caller might be lying. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. Principles of Computer Surveillance - Part 1
2007-11-19 10:52:00 This is the first of a two-part article that discusses how covert computer surveillance software works. I’ve discussed hardware keyloggers on Spy Review a few times now, so this article focuses on the technical aspects of software-based computer surveillance. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. Phone Jammer Devices - Big and Small
2007-11-16 09:37:00 Phone jammers remain one of the most desirable spy gadgets next to spy cameras (no statistic, just based on my unproven observations!). Having reviewed a number of phone jammers on Spy Review, I thought I’d feed your hunger with a couple more phone jammers. Both are really portable units, but they differ considerably in capabilities. Motion Detecting Landline Telephone
2007-11-12 10:32:00 This Motion Detecting Landline Telephone uses a built in PIR detector that will call a designated telephone if triggered. Once you’ve answered the call, you can listen to what’s going on around the phone for up to 30 seconds. After that 30 seconds, the alarm re-arms itself and will call you can if triggered again. Make your own remote GPS Tracker Device
2007-11-09 10:22:00 Location trackers are getting frighteningly common now, and even I’m getting overwhelmed with how many different variations there are. The most useful type of tracker is one that allows you to remotely find out the location of the GPS device. For example, if you have a car with a GPS tracker fitted into it, and the car is stolen, you can find out where its located by sending it a text message. The pricing for such a bit of kit can vary, but often starts at the £200 ($400) mark for the entry-level kit. If you fancied making your own remote GPS tracker for around £150, have a read of this Interfacing an AVR controller to a GPS Mobile Phone article on Tickerlog. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. Military spy robot - that looks like a dumbell?
2007-11-07 10:46:00 The Recon Scout gadget is a gadget that any budding spy would love to have. It features a highly robust and small two-wheeled robot with a tiny wireless camera. The device uses a simple wireless receiver to control it, which can be operated with a single hand using a thumbs-operated remote control. What’s impressive about the Recon Scout is that it can withstand a high degree of force, it can survive a vertical throw of 120 feet (36.5 metres) and a vertical drop of 30 feet (9.14 metres)! Potpourri Basket GSM Bug - Surveillance never smelt so sweet!
2007-11-05 10:54:00 I had so many ideas for puns for this post… such as “The essences of audio surveillance”, “Bugging your smelly little basket”, “Sticking your nose in someone’s business”. TrackerShack is at it again with their wild imagination on how he can conceal GSM bugs into everyday objects. Their latest creation is hiding a top quality GSM bug in a basket of Pot Pourri! Russian Major jailed for spying for Poland
2007-10-30 10:17:00 A Russian military major, Major Sergei Yurenya, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for passing on secrets to Poland . Major Yurenya was selling intelligence on millitary units in central Russia, particularly with staffing levels and movements of military personnel. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) had discovered that Major Sergei had been recruited in about 2005 to 2006. This episode seems to be a symptom of tense relations between Poland and Russia. Green 125mW Infiniti Lasers from TechLasers.com
2007-10-29 09:45:00 125mW Infiniti Laser Pointer(click to enlarge) Ok, ok, a laser pointer pen is hardly a bit of spy gear, but when I got asked to review a 125mW green laser by TechLasers .com, I really couldn’t say no. The reason why I was so keen to review the laser is because I already have a 9mW green laser, and just the mere thought of one that was nearly 14 times more powerful was an offer I couldn’t refuse! If I could use one word to describe the 125mw Infiniti laser, it would be awesome! Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Spy on the neigbours with your own Spy Plane!
2007-10-26 10:04:00 The thought of having some kind of remote controlled toy that’s able to take spy photos has easily crossed the mind of many of us at least once in our lives. With digital cameras getting smaller, it was only a matter of time before one was small enough to be concealed within something that flies. And that’s where the Estes XB 39 EagleEye Radio Control Digital Camera Plane features. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Spy Humour - Applying to be an Industrial Spy
2007-10-25 10:33:00 I thought I’d do something a little different and inject the odd spy joke from time to time. If you have some great spy jokes, please let me know! Leave comments or contact me directly! A college graduate applies for a job as an industrial spy. Together with several other applicants, he is given a sealed envelope and told to take it to the fourth floor. As soon as the young man is alone, he steps into an empty hallway and opens the packet. Inside, a message reads: ‘You’re our kind of person. Report to the fifth floor.’ Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. World?s Smallest Hi-Resolution Spy Camera Recorder
2007-10-24 09:51:00 I’ve reviewed really tiny spy cameras in the past, but how about a tiny video camera with a real-time digital video recorder built in? It’s so small, it can fit into a standard pack of chewing gum! It’s roughly the size and weight of a standard disposable cigarette lighter, therefore exceptionally simple to conceal. Honour for former KGB double-agent
2007-10-23 10:01:00 Oleg Gordievsky was a Colonel of the KGB who defected to the British Intelligence Services during the cold war. His first posting following joining the KGB in 1963 was at the Soviet embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark. Disillusioned with his work and the political situation in his country, he came under notice by the British Secret Intelligence Service, MI6. MI6 recruited Gordievsky as an intelligence asset and double-agent. At one point, he was stationed in the UK by the KGB to spy on the UK, which was particularly useful to MI6. His help led to the discovery of 25 Soviet agents working undercover in the UK. Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Using Geovision DVR cards for Video Surveillance
2007-10-22 09:48:00 As you all probably know, closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to monitor areas that need security. Typically CCTV cameras are typically employed in areas where maintaining a high level of security is essential or where an area is often the location of anti-social behaviour. Compact GSM Spy Bug a.k.a the Sim Card Spy Ear
2007-10-17 09:54:00 At first, I found the Sim Card Spy Ear gadget a little confusing, because as soon as I heard “Spy Ear”, I thought of the toy spy ears that I’ve featured previously. However, its actually a GSM bug, given away by the mention of a sim card. You install the device, and then you can dial the unit from anywhere in the world. You can then listen to everything going on around the device! Copyright © 2007 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Low Cost GPS Logging Trackers on eBay
2007-10-16 10:36:00 A friend of mine is selling some GPS trackers rather cheaply on eBay. Kris is selling them off so that he can focus on selling his latest GPS product, but if you buy these devices, he’ll still offer technical support if you need it.
