Apple May Be Close to Completing Dutch iPhone Deal

Apple's iPhone expansion will apparently include the Netherlands as Thompson Financial has reported wireless carrier Royal KPN to be in negotiations to bring the iPhone to the European country. Per a KEP spokesman, "KPN was approached by Apple about selling the iPhone on the Dutch market and, of course, the company is interested."

Apple Acquires Handwriting Recognition Software For iPhone?

Some of you might remember HWPen, a neat little native handwriting application written for the iPhone that surfaced a while back. If you recall, screenshots were leaked not long after, showing a feature in the unreleased firmware that looked similar to the app. According to the Chinese developer, Apple has purchased his HWPen app for use in the new firmware.

AT&T Begins Prorated Early Termination Fees

As was announced early this April, AT&T has begun offering prorated early termination fees for all new customers starting last weekend. Under the new policy, any contracts started or renewed on or after the change will now have prorated termination fees for canceling their contract before it expires.

Photos have surfaced of an accessory makers claimed reference model for the 3G iPhone on Dutch community sites iPhoneclub.nl and Macfreak.nl.According to the source - who wishes to remain anonymous - these pics originate from a well known European accessory maker. Earthscape to release Google Earth-like iPhone App

When you watch the demo of this native iPhone application (after the jump) you would probably say to yourself, why didn't someone think of this before? It just seems such a natural choice of application to take advantage of iPhone's accelerometer and touchscreen capabilities. The native iPhone application is a 3D Earth application called Earthscape mobile. Where moolah is concerned, investment firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the investment company managing the iPhone-focused "iFund" (which funds application development for the iPhone) is apparently investing in a firm called Pelago. Pelago, in turn, is apparently developing a location-specific application called Whrrl which can tie into the mapping capabilities of the iPhone to find information about places where you or other contacts may be.

AT&T has no price for the 3G iPhone according to Chief Financial Officer Rick Lindner.“There’s not been a product announcement. There hasn’t been any pricing decisions made. Let’s kick off this post-Memorial Day week with another international carrier announcement for the iPhone. This time, it’s Sweden-based operator TeliaSonera who’s dropping the bomb. The company is poised to bring the iPhone to a number of Nordic and Balkan countries. TeliaSonera today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia later this year. Another seven countries brings our speculative total to somewhere between 48 and 62 countries—the large amount of variation is due to the fact that Orange and América Móvil have not given fully detailed country lists. TeliaSonera To Bring iPhone To Scandinavia, Other Countries

The last time we heard about wireless carrier TeliaSonera back in September of '07, they were claiming that they were in talks with Apple for an iPhone deal. Now they're back with the announcement that they will be supporting the iPhone for several countries, including Scandinavia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the northern part of Sweden. If you're keeping track of the countries that the iPhone 'might' be launching in, this addition makes for... a lot. Almost 50, actually.

iControlPad: iPhone games PSP style

If the all touch interface on the iPhone is not your style when it comes to games, then the iControlPad may just be for you. The peripheral enables your iPhone to be in a casing that allows for a PSP like feel. It adds physical buttons to the iPhone for the purpose of playing games. The iControlPad will be providing full SDK support, and also source code so developers can get their games to work with the unit. The peripheral works by connecting to the iPhone’s dock. According to the designer, support for the iControlPad is already built in to most of the game emulators, and they are sending out more units to try to get more universal support. The device will have to get around one problem though, the SDK does not allow unprejudiced access to the dock connector. The device as of now is in its prototype stage. AT&T hiring temporary workers for 3G iPhone launch?

AT&T is hiring some workers to take temporary positions at AT&T stores. The listing says from June 16th to August 16th, the temporary workers will have jobs. This is not unique to AT&T, surprisingly enough. Last year, in anticipation of the original iPhone, AT&T did the same thing, so that there would be no shortage of help to push the device out the door. This time around they are doing the exact same thing. June 19th is a little bit of a delay of what we have heard, which is immediate launch of the device after the rumored WWDC announcement.
