A Day at the Bottega, A Night at the Pub (and other amenities?)

Sometimes it?s nice to break the routine and have a different day. It happened last week, when I had the chance to be invited by Andrea Saltarello (I know Andre, I should have passed by months ago!) to the Managed Designs. Nice office, in the city center of Milano, modern and hospitable, and a little bit ?rough? in a perfect dev style . Of course we talked a lot about User Groups and local Communities but also the boss was so kind to show me servers, routers, and other machineries (I have to say, after a while I lost him in the description ). I met some other colleagues, some of which I knew already like Roberto Messora and Markino (during lunch), and I?m sure I bothered them a bit while they were solving some issues In the evening, a great Community Dinner in a pub with some friends (Pino, Ale, Andre, Gab, Lica, Nino, Mighell, Giorgio and others): of course we had great fun, talking about System Center Essentials, Performance Point, Operations Manager and other very well known s...

Format the SanDisk Cruzer..

Yesterday I bought this nice USB key (Sandisk Cruzer Micro 8 GB) at a cheap price (around 28 ?): I also saw there?s now the 16 GB version available and I?m a big fan of Sandisk products (so I guess I?ll need one of those in the near future.. ). This USB key is fast, reliable and not that big as many keys you can find around. After open the box I realized that this is not a common key: it uses a technology called U3. With the U3 technology you can install the software in the key and use it as if it was installed in your machine. You can also download additional portable software That?s great, I mean, for people who need this. But frankly, I was in need of a USB Flash Drive for data storage and/or Windows Ready Boost. So, I tried to format it but I couldn?t ! All you need to do is to download the U3 Launchpad Removal Tool, plug the key, launch the application and it?s done! Una bella iniziativa, che ricorda quella di I?m Messenger. In pratica si fa il login con il proprio Windows Live ID, si seleziona l?Organizzazione che si vuole aiutare e, ogniqualvolta si fa una ricerca, automaticamente verrà donato 1 penny all?Organizzazione che si è scelto di aiutare. Certo non è tantissimo ma, viste le tantissime ricerche che si fanno ogni giorno e visto anche che è possibile impostare in automatico ?Search And Give ? tra i motori di ricerca predefiniti all?interno del proprio browser, con poco si può davvero fare la differenza. E? possibile anche monitorare quanto si è donato all?interno di ?My Account? oltrechè vedere quanto è già stato dato all?organizzazione caritatevole che si è selezionato.

..esiste una funzione di merge dei vostri account, utile soprattutto per chi ha più identità e deve ?switchare? da un account ad un altro. Per farlo, basta andare su account.live.com e cliccare sul link Linked Windows Live IDs. E? da poco che si parla del Palm Treo 800w e già (e mi vien da dire: toulì !) che vengono fuori immagini e caratteristiche (alcune) del nuovo Palm Treo 850. Al momento, mi par di capire che il Treo 800 sia destinato più ad un mercato business mentre il Treo 850 a quello consumer, soprattutto per quanto riguarda la forma e probabilmente anche il prezzo. Il Treo 850 è più uno smartphone (anche se Palm li chiama tutti Smartphone, aumentando considerevolmente la confusione), più sottile, forse anche un pò più trendy. Ma dalle  caratteristiche tecniche sembrano essere entrambi super-carrozzati: Quadribanda GSM/GPRS/EDGE con connettività UMTS/HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, fotocamera ed ammenicoli vari. Il Treo 850, che assomiglia molto al Centro, si dice avrà 100 MB Ram ma non si dice se avrà la porta mini-USB e nè il GPS (funzionalità, queste, che avrà di sicuro il Treo 800). Windows Live Writer Backup

Tra poco cambio il mio portatile e, tra le varie applicazioni che dovrò reinstallare e riconfigurare, Windows Live Writer sicuramente rientra tra queste. Ho trovato questa applicazione molto carina e semplice da usare (e soprattutto utile!): non è un plugin per WLW ma un?applicazione stand-alone sviluppata dal MVP inglese Scott Lovegrove che permette di fare il backup e restore, oltrechè di fare il backup dei draft e del/dei blog che si gestiscono. Ho dovuto però disabilitare la voce ?Recent Blogs? poichè mi dava qualche problema ma poi ha funzionato, creandomi un file .wlwbackup di 172 MB !!
