Smartphone Asus M930
2008-01-09 09:39:00
GPSAndCo published of world exclusiveness the first photographs in Asus M930 (to read the short one). This terminal which takes again the concept of famous Nokia Communicator, two screens : small external and a larger intern, damage that this last does not occupy all the width of the terminal. In the same way, it has two keyboards : an external digital keyboard and an internal Azerty keyboard. For the anecdote, Asus describes this terminal like " Candy bar + Clamshell ". Since, we could have more information on these design features and this reveals that this SmartPhone does not have a touch screen and he is thus provided with Windows Mobile Standard as the photographs let it predict. Another change, the processor is not a PXA 270 but TI OMAP2 2431 given rhythm to 400 MHz. It is hoped that it will be faster than TI OMAP 850 given rhythm to 200 MHz which equipped with many PDAphones and which was rather slow even if it were not very greedy in energy.[ Via gpsandco ]

ASUS brings its first smartphone to US shores
2008-01-04 04:00:00
Entering an increasingly heated race for smartphones, ASUS today revealed that it will launch its P527 smartphone in the US. The candybar sequel to the earlier P526 not only includes true GPS for navigation but is designed to make better use of its mapping abilities than other devices. A Travelog feature can be especially useful for vacationers and workers alike, according to ASUS; when set, the software will mark travel points and save them in a format that can be used by Google Earth to plot a trip regardless of its distance. Emergencies are handled by a unique Location Courier feature that automatically relays coordinates to as many as five separate phone numbers through SMS text messages.Like most of ASUS handsets, the P527 runs Windows Mobile 6 and so comes with Office Mobile for basic editing and viewing on the road; extras loaded by the Taiwan firm itself include a business card reader tool for the 2-megapixel camera and an RSS news reader. Wi-Fi networking, FM radio, and an ...

Apple looks to patent wireless purchasing
2007-12-31 00:30:00
A fresh patent filed back in 2006, but only revealed recently shows that Apple is looking to delve further into wireless purchasing via the iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The patent titled "Wireless communication system" would allow customers to wirelessly order products as they are approaching a store. The customer could then pop into the store, possibly avoiding the depression of waiting in lines, and pop right out with their items in hand. A service like this could work wonders in a restaurant. Just order and pay from your device and then consume. What could possibly be more geared towards the American market?[ Via uberphones ]

ASUS chasing after Nokia with M930W smartphone
2007-12-27 08:20:00
ASUS is branching out into unfamiliar territory and will roll out a smartphone targeted at the very high end of its market, leaks from GPSandCo reveal. The M930W will borrow its cue from Nokia ’s E90 Communicator and LG’s enV: despite resembling a standard candybar phone on the outside, the handset will open up to reveal a lengthwise QWERTY keyboard and a larger internal screen. It will even mimic a notebook PC and open at a 90 degree angle suitable for a desk as well as a full 180 degrees for handheld use, says the French site. The phone would be powered by ASUS’ typical choice of Windows Mobile 6 Professional and will use both 3G (including HSDPA) as well as Wi-Fi for its Internet access. A 3.2-megapixel camera and a microSDHC slot that can accept at least 32GB of storage should also push the M930W past both ASUS’ earlier smartphones and competitors. No precise launch date is given, though the phone is due in the first quarter of 2008 and may be announced either at CES in Ja...

Apple to announce 5 million iPhones sold at MacWorld Expo?
2007-12-23 12:08:00
Well, if 9to5mac is on point with this latest speculation, then Apple is poised to announce that they’ve pushed 5 million iPhone handsets onto the smartphone market. We’re looking for Steve Jobs to announce the blistering sales numbers during his keynote at MacWorld Expo on January 15th.The iPhone just recently broke through the 1 million-handset market, and with European iPhone sales shrouded in doubt (some reports indicate incredible sales, others paint a much dimmer picture), we find it hard to believe that Apple is already halfway to their 10 million-handset end-of-2008 goal. Still, we could be wrong, and the iPhone could deliver another giant blow to Windows Mobile’s market. We’ll know if a few weeks time...[ Via intomobile ]

Toshiba's Portege G910 / G920 go FCC
2007-12-19 16:39:00
Probably because it's not that big of a player in the domestic cellphone space, Toshiba may not be familiar with all the ins and outs of FCC confidentiality agreements, as evidenced by its testing subcontractor leaving tons of juicy photos of the unannounced Portege G910 / G920 smartphones in those devices' recently-declassified applications. Tosh's blunder clues us in to a whole world of info about this followup to the WVGA, Windows Mobile 6 Portege G900, such as the fact that it's eschewing its predecessor's sliding form factor for the clamshell-design of the Nokia E90 (perhaps an answer to the tilting screen of HTC's TyTN II?). While full specs aren't yet available, we've pieced together that these devices (differentiated by the fact that one of them will have a crippled GPS receiver) are tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 -- sorry, fellow Americans, no US broadband here -- with WiFi, Bluetooth, and dual cameras, and powered by a Qualcomm processor of unknown speed. Hit up the ga...
Sony Mylo 2 leaked months ago?
2007-12-19 16:30:00
Two days ago we caught wind of a Sony FCC test seemingly revealing the Mylo communicator sequel, the Mylo 2. It seems that a rendering of this device could have been leaked months ago without anyone knowing any different. As you can see from the image, the rendering sure does bare a striking resemblance to the FCC-revealed plot.[ Via uberphones ]

FCC Leaks ASUS P550 Smartphone
2007-09-23 04:53:00
Looks like the folks at the FCC have gotten their mittens on the Asus P550 smartphone, which can only indicate that this device will probably be released sometime in the very near future. It will be powered by a Marvel PXA270 520MHz processor running on Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional. Other hardware specifications include 256MB ROM, 64MB RAM, support for 2100MHz UMTS networks and tri-band GSM networks, a 3.5" 65 color TFT display at 240 x 320 resolution, a 2 megapixel camera, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, and a miniSD memory card slot. Having a GPS navigation function embedded inside would've made this one highly desirable product, but let's see if the current high end specs will be able to perform as well in theory first.[ via uberphones ]

BenQ T80 powered by Windows Mobile
2007-09-08 01:42:00
BenQ has unveiled the T80 to excite smartphone fans, and judging from the specifications, this Windows Mobile -powered handset is nothing to sneeze at. It features WiFi connectivity as well as NFC (Near Field Capability) - something unheard of in other smartphones. The keypad somewhat resembles that of Motorola's RAZR, featuring a rather glossy exterior that will surely attract fingerprints like moths to a lamp. Other features include a microSD memory card slot and e-wallet capability. Guess this opens up more avenues for hackers to come in and steal your life savings, but hey - what are the chances of that? Just try not to put too much cash in that account at any one time and you ought to be good.[ via uberphones ]

Foleo gets canned
2007-09-07 00:36:00
Palm CEO Ed Colligan has announced the last-minute cancellation of the Foleo , what was to be Palm’s new smartphone companion. Ed cites the difficulties of simultaneously developing two platforms as the biggest reason for calling the project off, but he’s adamant that a Foleo II will come into the picture after their new handheld OS is all polished off and settled. Hardly anyone was looking forward to the $499 pseudo-laptop, and others thought that ditching the project was key to Palm’s survival, but the fact that they’re still clinging to the idea of a smartphone companion is a little disturbing.[ via blackberrycool ]
