Is There Really Money in Amazon Associate Program?
2008-04-12 18:15:00
From a simple HTM code that Amazon used to provide to its Associate Program members, Amazon today has provided a wide range of options to its partners so that they can make more money online. Among the options are product search, contextual advertising, and product display. If you are an associate of Amazon, you now have another option how you can display ads of Amazon Products. Amazon calls this tool "The Carousel Widget". Here's the description: The Carousel widget presents products in an interactive 3D display allowing you to select either the Carousel or Ferris Wheel format in multiple sizes that work for your site. There are several ways to create your widget; you can hand-pick specific products to recommend to your viewers or choose to display the latest Bestsellers and New Releases from any Amazon category.I just wonder how many webmasters are really earning money online referring Amazon products? Is there really money in Amazon's Associate Program? If there...

Dear Google, Don't Forget Asia
2008-04-12 17:13:00
I have seen several websites still displaying "Try Google Adsense". Perhaps website/blogsite owners are not yet aware that the policy for Google Adsense referral payment has changed. Just in case you miss the announcement, here's the new rule: When a user who signed up for Google AdSense through your referral first earns US$100 within 180 days of sign-up and is eligible for payout, you will be credited with US$100. (Only referred users located in North America, Latin America, or Japan will be counted as valid conversions.)What do you think why did Google exclude countries all over Asia , except for Japan, as part of the referral program? It is understandable that Japan falls in the exemption category - after all, Japan is the next riches country in the world next to the U.S. Make no mistake. Asian websites will rise. China has more than 1 billion people and so is India. The moment more millions of people from these two countries become capable of buying PCs or laptops ...
When Your Blogger's Blogspot Is Deleted or Disabled
2008-04-12 13:32:00
I have read several complaints over blogs in Blogger, owned by Google, being deleted or disabled. A blogger's blogspot will be deleted if it violates Blogger's Terms of Service. Your blog should not contain pornographic materials, hate messages, and copyrighted materials. But that is not always the situation. A blog might have been removed by accident, or it could be that the blogger's algorithms sent a false alarm and your blog is no longer accessible. To run a real blog is not that easy. It is like running your own online newspaper or jounal. A successful blog is a result of hundreds and even thousands of hours of hard work. Can you afford that your efforts go wasted? What if your blogger's blospot were accidentally deleted? The question hit my soul lately. What shall I do? My back-up work is www.webhostingreality.com, hosted by Hostgator Webhost. The website is one of the 30 domain names that I have bought so far. Some of my websites are hosted with Lunarpages We...

How to be Successful: Leave Your Comfort Zone
2008-04-12 12:54:00
Bob Parsons, founder and CEO of GoDaddy, said that in order for us to be successful we have to go out of our comfort zone. In his 16 rules of Success in Business and Life in General, Parson said pointblank: I believe that not much happens of any significance when we're in our comfort zone. I hear people say, "But I'm concerned about security." My response to that is simple: "Security is for cadavers." A man who had gone through extreme poverty, Parsons worked his way to the top by sweating it out. Parsons had been in many types of lowly jobs before he ventured into accounting and software-making. He is also a living war veteran, having seen the terrors of the Vietnam War.Pondering on Parsons' first rule of success, may I remind Webhosting Reality's readers that anyone who trumpets about making money online or offline without mentioning the necessary ingredient of success, which is hard work, should be corrected. There is no short-cut to being su...

Dick Cheney's Sunglasses: Are There Secrets Behind?
2008-04-11 15:11:00
The difference between the past and today is that in the past if there was something controversial about yourself, the world won't know it, whereas today, it will only take a second for the whole world to know who you are and what you do. Take the case of Dick Cheney's Sunglasses . A simple photograph with an unconfirmed image of a naked woman or naked women immediately created a buzz in the blogosphere. Thousands of bloggers have become curious over Dick Cheney's Sunglasses. Granting that there was nothing meaningful in Dick Cheney's Sunglasses, the sad fact is that Dick Cheney is already being put in bad light by people in the Internet. There are cornucopia of hints and insinuations about the U.S. Vice-President's Sunglasses. The Internet reports (based on a photo at the White House Website) said Dick Cheney was fly-fishing on Snake River in Idaho. He was sporting the now controversial dark sunglasses. As soon as I get a larger photo of Dick Cheney's sungla...

Is Flickr Website Losing Its Original Direction?
2008-04-11 12:43:00
Thousands of Flickr users stage an online protest against the Flickr's decision to include videos in an otherwise photo-oriented website. Flickr members said they don't want Flickr, a Yahoo-owned web service, to be the next Youtube, a video-sharing site owned by Google. Wired Blog Network reported: "The big issue is the way it was implemented," said Jason Bouwmeester, a systems analyst in Canada and one of the group administrators for No Video on Flickr. "There was no public beta.... They just reset everyone's settings." I haven't read Flickr's reaction to the protest. My first thought on this issue is that if millions of members, being disappointed with Flickr videos, would leave Flickr for good and start their own photo gallery website, Flickr might reverse its decision and remove the protested video feature. Meanwhile, I've read that thousands of photographers have started their own photo-sharing websites. Maybe they want to be independ...

Get GoDaddy Discount Promo Code for this month
2008-04-11 11:22:00
Just a quick announcement to all readers of webhostingreality.com. GoDaddy, a domain registrar ,is offering a 30 % discount to all dot com domains. People prefer a .com domain because it has a universal appeal and it is more memorable. This Godaddy promo code, gdp0403y, will expire on April 30, 2008. Try to use the said promo code if you also renew or transfer a .com domain to Godaddy. If it works, well and good. If your website is hosted in another webhosting company, just change the DNS (domain name server) in your Godaddy account. To customize your DNS, just go to your Godaddy account, then click manage domains, then click "name servers", then choose "custom domain". The default DNS points to Godaddy servers. Most of my websites, by the way, are hosted with Lunarpages and Hostgator webhosts. For Lunarpages clients, just input the DNS (NS#.LUNARSERVERS.COM and NS#.LUNARSERVERS.COM where # represents a number) in your Godaddy domain management account. Then go...

Google Webhosting: Is It Good For You?
2008-04-11 10:07:00
By webhostingreality.com - Since Google Inc. launched its Google App Engine which offers free hosting to source codes of web developers (for now Python language is being supported by Google), the webhosting industry has somewhat been shaken. What will happen to webhosting companies who don't have much cash and technological muscle to compete with Google? Will webhosting providers close their offices fearing of Google's invasion? I welcome Google to join the webhosting business. I believe Google is not a direct threat to smaller webhosting companies. In fact Google will transform the webhosting industry into a more respectable business. Should Google offer full-blown webhosting service, webhosting providers will surely rethink how they run their business. I would expect that, with Google in the picture of the webhosting business, webhosts will strive harder to improve their support service to clients. If they won't improve, people will run to Google. (Yahoo did not improv...

Is Blogging Just A Waste of Time?
2008-04-11 06:54:00
By webhostingreality.com - Is blogging merely a waste of time? My answer can be either yes or no. It all depends on what drives you to blog, what had motivated you to own a website, what inspires you to write and share your ideas with the world. I believe that blogging can be a terrible waste of time if one started a blog website, and has not updated it since six months back. A blog site must be constantly updated so that it will earn the favor of the search engines, and more importantly, the loyalty of its visitors. Blogging can be a waste of time if the blog site was created for wrong reasons. Do you blog for money? You might be frustrated in the long run if you don't persevere. Learn from JohnChow.Com, which is earning $20,000 to $30,000 a month. John Chow did not become popular overnight. Blogging cannot be a waste of time if you use your blogsite to establish a professional presence in the web. If you have a yourname dot com site that contains your resume, services offered...

How I Suffer with Firefox Internet Browser
2008-04-09 17:35:00
I am using Firefox 3 Beta 5. I decided to upgrade my browser believing that a latest release of Firefox would make my Internet browsing experience much better than the past. But my expectation failed. I continue to experience frequent browser crashes particularly in sites fueled by .asp. It can be very annoying and anti-productive when you experience like this. Despite my bad experience with the latest Firefox 3 release, I will stick to this Internet browser. I am not yet ready to rekindle my love affair with Internet Explorer. I had countless problems with IE and I don't want to relive the same pain. Whenever Firefox crashes, I move to Opera Browser whose speed has earned my admiration. Apple's Safari is my other choice, but only when I want to have a Mac-feeling online. Firefox 3 Beta 5 was released on April 2, 2008. Mozilla's announcement of the release reads: Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5 has been released for testing. The fifth beta of the next major Firefox version offe...

Google App Engine Preludes Full-blown Webhosting Business?
2008-04-08 15:38:00
Will Google invade the webhosting industry? This is the first question that popped up in my mind when I read in the news that Google has introduced its Google App Engine . On a first come, first serve basis, developers still have time to grab a seat and try Google App Engine. After the engine's beta release, Google will evaluate the feedback of its beta testers and decide whether to continue the project or move on what to improve after the beta period. Going back to my question "will Google enter the webhosting industry"? Maybe, just maybe. For sure, it will be Yahoo who will be the first casualty should Google start to offer webhosting plan. Remember Google has the cash to buy gigantic, shiny servers. In Google App Engine, Google will host the application developers' work/source code. Will Google host people's websites with a yourname dot com? Remember, Google is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar. GoDaddy, take note. What will happen if Google enters into th...

Save Time: Choose 'remember me on this computer'
2008-04-07 21:25:00
Are you using Google's Gmail email service? Here's how you can save time in your email activities. When you log in to Gmail, you see a small box that says: 'remember me on this computer.' Checking the box will allow Google to save your login information: user name and password. By the next time you use that computer, you don't have to retype your username and password. You save time in checking your email. In the user name box, just point the mouse there and type the first letter of your user name, and automatically your username will appear. Caution. Use this Gmail function only when you are using your personal computer. If you are using a public computer or checking your email in an Internet Cafe, never check this box. The next Internet user will be able to access your email. Goodbye to your private secrets. :) Open Announcement: Interested to own and build a yourname dot com website quickly and easily? Hope for Hopeless Websites
2008-04-07 18:42:00
Every website has an enormous potential to bring wealth to its webmaster/owner. Websites are used to communicate to potential clients or customers, establish new relationships, or make money online in various methods such as affiliating with LinkShare or ClixGalore. With billions of web pages being created every day and being indexed by Google, the world's leader in search engine use, what is your web site's hope of being noticed? Spamming other people's emails? People would hate your website for spamming. Spamming forum sites? Forum administrators/owners will surely ban you. There is hope for a seemingly hopeless website. A website can be the world's most beautiful website in terms of design and style and it can the world's super unique website for its original content. But people must know that your website is existing. If you are running an online store, you may be selling the world's most useful product and service. But without promotion of your ecommerce...

Yahoo's Decline: What Lesson To Learn
2008-04-07 15:44:00
The ongoing talks on Microsoft buying Yahoo at US$44 billion signify one thing: Yahoo is no longer profitable. Yahoo has reached a point-of-no-return stage in the product cycle. But Yahoo is not yet dead. However, the company may die in natural death if no other company could salvage the former's dormant assets. I said in an earlier post that Google should buy Yahoo, and not Microsoft because Google is more capable of managing online wealth. Microsoft, on the other hand, is expert on software development. Thanks to its Windows XP. But no thanks to Microsoft's Windows Vista and Internet Explorer.  If you are one of Yahoo's decision-makers, you won't talk of selling the company if it is still highly profitable. Microsoft's fearless bid on buying Yahoo is a portray the latter's inevitable decline. What can we learn from Yahoo's decline? I would like to cite one lesson: Failure to innovate. Was the company too busy developing on Yahoo Email and Yahoo Di...

How to Learn Web Design from Google's Art Philosophy
2008-04-07 07:47:00
What makes Google so successful? Innovation? Simplicity? Usability? Speed? There are many factors that can be used as benchmark for Google's success. Let me point out Google's art philosophy as one strong reason why hundreds of millions of people love Google. You look at the homepage of Google.Com. What do you see? Nothing but a simple box where you type keywords or phrases that you are searching for. Another prominent image you see is Google's logo. That's brand marketing. The look would sometimes change depending on special occasions. Compare Google's homepage to that of Yahoo's design. Or compare Google to other websites. I believe that Google loves simplicity. Simplicity is beauty - we've heard this before. Simplicity works for Google's success. Can we learn web design from Google's beauty? Yes, indeed we can. Whenever you make a website, blogsite, photo gallery, forum, or a Digg-like website (using Pligg), never forget this: people are not l...

A Long Farewell to Adobe Stock Photos
2008-04-06 21:32:00
By WebHostingReality.ComA long goodbye to Adobe Stock photos, my favorite tool for browsing amazing images. There were more than a million images available at Adobe Stockphotos until it was pulled out from the Adobe package. The images came in various categories and you could download a low-resolution file for every photo you like. If you want a high-resolution image, you buy it. That was before. The Adobe company has decided to terminiate its Adobe Stockphotos. That said, I feel incompetent using the Adobe Bridge. Adobe has just realized that selling photos is no longer lucrative. Popular image-sharing websites such as Flickr and Photobucket have attracted millions of followers both wannabe photographers and the professionals. In Flickr, for instance, you can download any of the millions of images available online. Be sure you credit Yahoo, Flickr owner, of the image that you got from the site. Flickr does not sell photos; it merely invites members to upgrade their account for an un...

Google Buys Yahoo. The Next Hottest Headline
2008-04-06 16:21:00
No, I'm not joking. I prepare this headline: "Google Buys Yahoo " or "Google Acquires Yahoo" in anticipation of a possible twist of events. Of course, Google can very well afford to buy Yahoo. The talk has been focused on Microsoft buying Yahoo. But in my mind, it should be Google that must buy Yahoo. Microsoft is a software and operating system expert. Never mind if its Internet Explorer is getting worse. Never mind if Microsoft's Windows Vista is causing headaches to users all over the world. The fact is Microsoft rules the world in terms of operating system distribution. Linux is popular, yes, to web geeks, but not to the ordinary workers at your company. Google is an expert on online advertising, web innovation, and has proven the king and queen of search engine. The world knows only of Google as the legitimate search engine for now. Google's invasion in email service has made Yahoo Mail a disposable online asset. Now who should take over Yahoo? W...

3 Unknown Blogging Secrets To Get Fresh Ideas
2008-04-06 13:02:00
Before I started blogging, I used to write my ideas in a thick notebook. Whatever fresh ideas that would strike my heard, I immediately wrote them in the notebook which I always carry with me. Today I am sharing 3 unknown blogging secrets that would help you generate fresh ideas for your blogging activities or even for your planning sessions at your office. 1. Spend a little bit longer in the bathroom. I found this very refreshing. Standing fully naked, I just allow the water to fall on my body as I start to explore the deep corners of my thoughts. Sometimes I forgot that I have taken an hour in the shower. But the benefit is tremendous. Coming out of the bathroom, I feel so fired up to write in the computer. There were many ideas and concepts that I would not have grasped without the help of my bathing secret. Try it and tell me here if it works for you. 2. Pace your room aimlessly. Or just go out and walk anywhere. Forget your keyboard and your Google stats. Just walk. I found wal...

Why the Chinese Language Can't Defeat English Websites
2008-04-05 14:38:00
CourtneyTuttle.com suggested that a blog may opt for language translation to cater to other readers. Tuttle, in laying out strategies for link development, hinted that his blog might see a Chinese translation in the near future, believing that the Chinese language could be the next biggest thing in the Internet. Here's a snipet of Tuttle's suggestion: Install a text translator on your site. (I haven't done this one yet but it's one of my ideas for the near future.) Surely people that blog in other languages would tell their readers about www dot mysite dot com that has a version that they can more easily read. I would love to have a version of this site in Chinese, which is the second biggest language of the internet. It will eventually be the biggest. My reaction? No, the Chinese language can't become the biggest language in the Internet. Yvoschaap.com asked :Are the most successful websites from America? Are Chinese websites a majority of the Internet?Again, let'...

What Will Happen to America After Barack Obama?
2008-04-04 18:42:00
On teaching world literature, I always encourage my students to speak up whatever they wish to express in class whether or not it is acceptable within academic rules. At times a discussion on a poem of, say, Robert Frost, would lead to many headline-oriented topics, some of which are already irrelevant to world literature. Yesterday, one of my students shared this thought. Let me summarize it for you. He said that if Barack Obama would become the U.S. president, America will become so chaotic that it would be so difficult to control the nation. My student was thinking of the black immigrants who, he said, are always causing trouble in many urban areas in America. My student's comment on American politics was weird, but I just allowed him to talk in class without interruption. He said that colored people in America would become more daring to commit crimes since the President of the U.S. is of the same color with them. His opinion is anchored on psychological hints. That one wo...
Blogspot Discriminated by Shoemoney Website?
2008-04-04 18:03:00
I don't really know the person who owns Shoemoney website, but I dropped by the site a couple of days ago, read some posts and wrote thoughtful comments on topics I deemed important to me and to others. I watched one video but I did not continue watching it since I didn't like the "quality" of information that I saw and heard. Today I went back to Shoemoney to check if my comments, which were moderated before they are published, have been accepted. To my surprise and dismay, my comments were rejected. I may be wrong but I said this considering that I couldn't find my comments left in some of Shoemoney's posts but comments made on days after I wrote there were already accepted. My comments were never "thanks, nice, great post, lol, yeah" type of comments but these were no-nonsense, thoughtful ones written to the best of my knowledge and emotion (I always make blog comments with "feelings"). I evaluated the site and I found that most comme...

Unclaimed Missing Money Website A Scam?
2008-04-04 16:47:00
There is always cost when a website offers something fishy, and worse, if the offer comes with money. As a word of wisdom, when the offer is too good to be true, it cannot be any truer. A missing money website said that there are 20 million people in America and Canada whose money remain unclaimed. Is this true? Let's find out. Another money-oriented website: unclaimedmoney dot us dot com is facing legal trouble after authorities smell something vague in its promises. Is Twitter Just A Waste of Time?
2008-04-04 14:32:00
Time is gold. Time is money. We have heard that a lot of times. That's why it is important to invest our time wisely, otherwise we all go poor. I would rather lose money (not in millions) than lose time. Is Twitter just a waste of time? That is the question I would like to ask to readers of Webhosting Reality today. There have been many reviews about Twitter. Blogs across the world wide web have feasted on Twitter buzz. I don't know. Until now no one has been able to convince me to visit Twitter website. What I read in blogs is that Twitter is being used to announce to your friends, including strangers, what you are doing at a given moment. Is that so? Are you interested to invest 30 seconds of your life reading a twitter announcement on a Twitter member drinking soda while surfing MySpace? To be honest, I haven't visited Twitter site. I may be biased with my post here since I haven't tried Twitter and I haven't seen the website. My decision not to go for Twitter...

Grab GoDaddy .org Domain Discount Promo Code
2008-04-04 05:34:00
GoDaddy is again releasing a 20% discount for domain names ending with .org. I'm glad that GoDaddy is releasing a discount promo code. I have several .org domains registered with GoDaddy but the sites are hosted Lunarpages, HostGator, and HostiCan. On my future post, I will release a tutorial on how to change Domain Name Server (DNS) in GoDaddy and point the DNS to another web hosting company. Quick note from GoDaddy on domains with .org:What was your reason for buying a .ORG domain name? To add credibility to your organization? To establish trust with your customers? To protect the brand you built with your .COM?          As long as you have your .ORG domain, you can do all this and much more. But let your domain expire and suddenly it's anyone's for the taking ? and that could mean the loss of all you worked so hard for. Got a .org domain with GoDaddy? Use this code: gdp0348 (expires on April 15, 2008) and get a 20 percent discount ...

Delayed Goodbye to Microsoft Frontpage 2003
2008-04-04 04:56:00
While researching for the latest version of Microsoft Frontpage , a web-authoring software, I realized how ignorant I have been of the latest buzz within Microsoft empire. I don't really follow Microsoft stories except the days when it tried to buy out Yahoo. Today I remember Frontpage 2003, the last version I know. Last night I downloaded a free website template at HostGator, where some of my websites are hosted, and according to the instruction, I may edit the web template using Frontpage 2003. However, I no longer need Frontpage. I can edit the template using Dreamweaver. And then I went to Microsoft and inquired what had happened to Frontpage. Here's what I got from Microsoft press room: After nine years of being an award-winning Web authoring tool, FrontPage will be discontinued in late 2006. We will continue to serve the diverse needs of our existing FrontPage customers with the introduction of two brand-new application building and Web authoring tools using the lates...

How Windows Vista Makes Life Difficult
2008-04-04 04:13:00
I have been using my Acer laptop for the last two and a half years and it is powered by Windows XP Home Edition. I have seen my friends running Windows Vista . They have no choice. They are not techie people. When they bought their new laptops, they got a built-in Windows Vista with the machine. I have tried using Windows Vista and what a rigorous journey. Microsoft, when it upgraded from Windows 2000 to Millennium Edition then to XP, did not make the lives of its customers difficult. The interface of the operating system is easy to navigate. You won't get lost. Now that Windows Vista is here, I've heard many of my friends and collegues complaining how they got lost inside Vista. The menus and functions are completely revamped. At times I thought running Ubuntu system is easier than Windows Vista. Evaluating the entire structure of Windows Vista, I don't see any reasonable reason for Microsoft Corporation to completely rearranged the functionalities of its user-friendly ...
