AMD Gets Official with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3800 And PowerXpress
2008-06-05 01:57:00
AMD’s on a roll at Computex, and it’s keeping the stream alive with two more decently important announcements. First off, the company is making the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3800 official, which is said to “triple top-of-the-line graphics performance in comparison to the previous generation ATI Mobility Radeon GPUs.” The unit also enables laptop makers to include CrossFireX technology for the first time, so yeah, there’s that. Moving on, we’ve got the low down on its PowerXpress technology, which enables users to “double or triple the performance of the integrated graphics processor when plugged into a wall socket or extend their battery life by over an hour while on the go.” In actuality, it’s a variant of ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology for lappies, giving folks the option to switch between a Mobility Radeon HD 3400 series GPU and an integrated AMD M780G without the need for a reboot. If your eyebrows just perked up, you can snag s...

Rock Out! Guitar Hero: On Tour DS Bundle Spotted
2008-06-05 01:55:00
Toys ‘R’ Us has given us the first look at a definite must-have for any on-the-go wannabe rock god. Priced at $179.99, the limited edition Nintendo DS Guitar Hero Bundle includes the game, Guitar Grip, and a swanky two-toned silver & black DS Lite with silkscreened Guitar Hero logo. (You know, in case the stylus strumming and shouts of “Star Power!” don’t give away what game you’re playing.) The bundle goes on sale June 29, one week after the, er … “light rock” version of Guitar Hero: On Tour . Given all the evidence, we’re pretty much convinced Nintendo is going for some kind of record for “most bundles and color variations of a handheld gaming system ever.” —Source Relevant Posts May 10, 2008 — Nintendo DS, Guitar Hero on Tour bundles coming this June October 28, 2007 — Guitar Hero 3 Goes On Sale, Gets Unboxed, Melts Countless Faces October 27, 2007 — Limited Edition White PlayStat...

HTC Touch Pro Advances Slide-Out Windows Mobile Action
2008-06-05 01:03:00
HTC’s going back to what they do best—Windows Mobile phones with slide-out QWERTY keyboards—by way of the HTC Touch Pro, also known as the HTC Raphael. It’s got a very Touch-Diamond-like back, and has 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 512MB internal storage, 288MB RAM, microSD slot, a 2.8-inch VGA screen, 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS, video calling and a 1350 mAh battery that gives 8 hours of talk time. TouchFLO 3D, the improved UI we saw back on the Touch Diamond, is also there, along with a YouTube app and Google Maps (works w/ that GPS). Release date looks like late summer for Europe, Asia and the Middle East, then later 2008 for North and Latin America. We really like the way the Touch Diamond shaped up, but we’re partial to this version of HTC’s form factor. Windows Mobile really isn’t Windows Mobile without a sturdy keyboard. —Source Relevant Posts February 27, 2008 — LG’s 10000:1 Contrast Ratio Monitor November 5, 2007 — GPhone Is Officia...

Olympus E420 Digital Camera Reviewed
2008-06-04 05:18:00
Olympus E-420 digital SLR camera review : Although we just experienced a hectic period with many introductions, Olympus introduced, rather unexpectedly, their new digital SLR sibling; the Olympus E-420. The latest Olympus E-420 is clearly based on the E-410 that was introduced last year, but has undergone some obvious changes when it comes to the inner parts of the camera. Almost immediately after the introduction, we received a full production model in combination with the standard ZUIKO Digital zoom lens (14-42mm) and a beautiful super compact lens, the 25mm pancake f/2.8 lens. Olympus E-420 vs E-410 DSLR Even though the Olympus E-420 may look similar to its predecessor; a number of subtle changes can still be noted. A few symbols have been added to the housing, and the previously green-coloured symbols are now blue. In addition, the small handgrip now features a clearly perceptible edge which should give the camera a more stable hand-fit. And last but not least, the LCD monitor o...

Canon Rolls Out WUXGA REALiS WUX10, REALiS SX80 LCOS Projectors
2008-06-04 05:11:00
It looks like Canon ’s laid claim to not one but two “world’s first” titles today, with it rolling out the world’s first WUXGA LCOS in the form of the REALiS WUX10 and the world’s first PictBridge compatible with its new REALiS SX80 (also LCOS-based). In addition to a 1920 x 1200 resolution, the REALiS WUX10 also boasts 3,200 lumens of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and some of Canon’s propriety features like its AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) Optical Engine, which promises to maximize the performance of the LCOS panels. The REALiS SX80, on the other hand, takes things down to a still decent SXGA+ resolution, along with 3,000 lumens of brightness, a 900:1 contrast ratio, and that aforementioned USB / PictBridge connectivity. Both models also boast just about all the ports you could want, including DVI, HDMI and component, as well as that all-important built-in 1W speaker. As you might have guessed, neither of them come cheap, al...

2008-06-04 05:06:00
In these days wall mounted flat-screen TV’s are more and more popular and affordable. A lot of people buy them, because they look good mounted on the wall, and they also save space. At the press of a button, you can bring your TV out from the wall and rotate it to the most desired viewing position. PS3 Costs $247 Per Year to Run
2008-06-04 03:10:00
Aussie consumer agency Choice has put together a study of the power consumption of everyday household appliances and, surprise surprise, the leaf blower that is the PS3 comes out at the bottom of the league. Sony’s console burns through 31.74 kWh per week when idling, which is five times the energy used by a refrigerator, and ten times the juice sipped by the Wii. To be fair, a fridge is left on 24/7, whereas a console tends to be switched into standby mode a lot of the time. Those lazy readers who need a little prodding should take note of the costs of leaving their PlayStation running: over a year, it adds up to US$237. Compared to this, the MacBook Pro — not usually known for running cool — looks as thirsty as a desert cactus, a using only 3.66 kWh per week; almost one tenth the appetite of the PS3. So, switching off between sessions could save enough cash to actually buy a Wii. Alternatively, you could put the hot PS3 inside the cold refrigerator and watch as ...

Sure, the CP-X206 and CP-X306 3LCD projectors will find their place in the wild, wild world, but with a 1,024 x 768 native resolution, that place isn’t apt to be your home theater. Respectively, you’ll find 2,200 and 2,600 lumens, while they both offer up a 500:1 contrast ratio, built-in 7-watt speaker and 29 dB noise rating in Whisper Mode. Asus Eee Box B202: Our First Look, Plus Official Specs (Only $300)
2008-06-03 00:37:00
The other toy Asus brought for us to look at is their upcoming Eee Box, which will launch mid-July in the US. Running on a 1.6GHz Atom processor, it comes in Windows XP and Linux versions, both of which are blissfully cheap: $269 for the base 1GB RAM, 80GB storage Linux model, $299 for XP. Memory and storage are configurable, running from 512MB to 2GB, and 80GB to 250GB, respectively. 802.11n is standard, and it has a pleasant number of ports—serious potential as a TV streamer box (as commenters have pointed out, lack of optical drive and HDMI out is definitely limiting here). We didn’t get to see it in action, but it’s definitely a cute, well-built package for the money. All the dirty details below. Name and Model: Eee Box B202 OS: Linux System/ Hardware Compatible with Windows XP Processor: Intel Atom N270 (1.6 GHz, FSB 533) Memory: DDRII 512 MB / 1 GB / 2 GB (see US configs below) Storage: 80 GB / 120 GB / 160 GB / 250 GB (see US configs below) Chipset: 945GSE + IC...

Asus is promising four to six hours of battery life. There is a WiMax version in the works (it’s being shown at the WiMax Expo), but it’s a little further out.
