Gmail 2.0 Features
2007-11-15 12:20:00 Seems my speculations are pretty much falling into the right places.I had expressed my desires from the all new Version of the Gmail in my previous post. And this is what it might turn out to be actually featuring in the near feature( Source:Noheat.com).More than just the updated IMAP support and a mint-fresh contact layout, as I had wished for, HTML Signatures are actually getting real on the next Gmail rollout. Read the whole article here.Is Folders on the way too? The article also discloses other yet-to-be-announced features like Meebo Integration, Toolbar addition etc.Seems someone has been reading Techkeyla eh! LOL! More About: Google , Resources , Features
My Email Signature
2007-11-15 11:04:00 Umm, Gmail IMAP is out. And this gives me more functionality and enough reasons to justify myself to use a Mail Client for my personal mail(I use Lotus Notes for my Office Mail). I am quite lost choosing the right option, on one hand we have the Microsoft Outlook Express (which I'd have to install as yet), and on the other hand is the Firefox buddy-Thunderbird. Now, it will take some more time for me to come to the decision( essentially which takes around 4 hours of intense meditation in an ambience filled with incense and Nirvana, the band, and of course a bit of vodka does act as a catalyst to the process, but minus the MJ,as in G, as in pot) of choosing the right mail client for now. But, this is what I have planned for myself what my mail signature would look like.Sujoy SinghaMad Indian Blog gerPuneIndiaEmail :sujoy.singha@gmail. comhttp://techkeyla.blogspot.com"You may say that I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one"-John LennonVisit MyBlogLog and get a signature like this!Yeah... Flock 1.0 other features
2007-11-15 05:41:00 I hadn't quite checked out the other features for the Flock 1.0 since my last time. I just had checked the Facebook Peoples functionality which I had written about in my earlier post. Well, the primary obstacle is that I haven't been able to import my bookmarks and RSS feeds from my Firefox to the Flock. Bad yeah! But nonetheless, as the name suggests, Flock is promising in terms of social networking. Take this for instance. The Flickr page gives you a slidebar a.k.a MediaBar ahead, which enables you to surf through the media in your album. Other sites included are Youtube,Ma.gnolia,Twitter, delicious,Photobucket et al. The blog poster isn't much different from Firefox's Scribefire Addon ,only difference being, it opoens in a separate pop-up box, rather than the half-screen Scribefire (which is pretty annoying btw). My points this time for the MediaBar! Shall explore the possibilities of the Flock 1.0 some more and shall update ya soon! More About: Social Networking , Review , Features

Inbox 2.0 from Yahoo
2007-11-14 08:17:00 Just when we thought Yahoo has lost the game to the other big newsmakers of the techno-world, they have sprung back into action. And with this action, is it time now to bid goodbye to Yahoo 360, iGoogle , and all the other personal/social webpage profiles. We all have a habit of speculating too early, don't we? But for now, let's just break the ice of what's Yahoo upto! The future of Inbox is reportedly here! Your friendly inbox won't be dull no more. Read this article at NYTimes by Saul Hansell for the details. It is an intense detailed on what is termed as the next gen of the Inbox whose primary function was to deliver your emails from your contacts and friends. But the next gen would be the revamping of the Inbox to directly compete or join hands with start pages and Social Networks. Interesting point here is the fact that how Social Networks, on joining, prompt you to send invites for joining that particular social network via your contacts in your Mail. Better late than neve... 100th Post:5 Reasons to Visit
2007-11-13 12:36:00 Yippeeeee!!!!! I have done it. In just 40 days, I have posted a hundred posts on Techkeyla, including this one,all by myself. Well, as the footer reads, all articles on this blog aren't necessarily source materials and you know, not the first one to break out the breaking news in the world of technology(c'mon where do I stand in that race, let's be real!).But yeah, what the heck! Techkeyla wasn't meant to be that in the first place. Techkeyla is my take on the world of Technology and everything that has to do with it. Some might accuse me of being too self-centered and stuff like that. But hey! it's my blog first. And so what comes second is Social Networking . Agreed it's a personal blog, but it shouldn't remain a personal dish which only I can relish. It is a blog, and everyone can visit, and read(and talk about hopefully). And here, on my 100th post, I give you five reasons why you should frequent Techkeyla all the more!1:I read more than you do: Yep, I might sound a bit like... Don't Click Just Roll
2007-11-13 11:59:00 Imagine a world where there are no buttons,no links and all you need is to just roll over your mouse to navigate. You must be saying, c'mon have you gone crazy? Well, I'd have said the same until I found this page(its flash based so I do expect you have the plugin installed). The URL is http://dontclick.it. It claims to be an institute of interactive research. The catch here is that the navigation is done in a different way than the traditional clicking on links or buttons. The home page reads: So please prepare yourself mentally for the new situation and click here for the last time before entering the project. And it is actually fun inside. The navigation is as smooth as I donno-core animation (ala Leopard). Its a new experience. So, can we do away with the mouse buttons already??? I ask too many questions. Orkut User Happiness Survey
2007-11-12 15:38:00 The Pressure surely is on. We all know what Facebook's fanbase meant for the already not-so-popular or regionally popular social network from Google , Orkut. The userbase of Orkut has been primarily Brazil,India and Pakistan. And with users open to an arguably better option, Orkut is trying hard to stay in the game. Here is one of their attempts. The Orkut User Happiness Survey . The Survey Link is:https://survey.google.com/wix/p1307220 .aspxThe survey page shows something like this. Click on it to enlarge.Happy Radio Buttons , only if you are that interested. For me, I just skipped it. I'd rather bite some chumps! The best question of the lot is:Please select up to 3 features you like best about orkut. I didn't even know that Orkut had so many features. I really need to cross-check. EA Sports Cricket 2007 has screwed up names
2007-11-11 14:59:00 I am not much of a cricket fan, except for the occasional India-Pak matches. But even I got a bit upset with EA Sports ' Cricket 2007 which has got all the names, not one, not two, but all of them screwed up. I mean, how long does it take to get it cross checked. Or was it done on purpose, coz they didn't get the permission from BCCI? Whatever the reason may be, this is hilarious at first, and a bit of a setback later.I'd like to emphasize that it is the 2007 release. The screenshot is below.Dada is named S Gungly and Zaheer has a last name Kalm. Spread the word!P.S.Didn't check the names of the players of the other teams More About: Screwed , Names , Cricket 2007
Is a lot, too much for Facebook?
2007-11-11 14:40:00 Now don't start laughing. I am showing you my list of apps on Facebook . And this is probably why it takes a lot of time to load, given the many apps that are to be loaded. I keep lot em hidden, and many with their shutters closed. And still managed to get these many landed over my Profile page. So, is it getting all the more cluttered like MySpace.Well, I do know ,it is pretty much personal choice to keep the apps or not. But with the Ads launching, will Facebook lose its charm of exclusivity, arrangement and cleanliness(sure I don't have that on my page. I have a regualr wall, a Superwall and a fun-wall. How many do I need seriously?). And all those sponsors are gonna extensively utilise all my facebook info to send targeted ads on my profile. Hmm, its high time for account info deletion probably.
Who'd buy a Zune?
2007-11-11 14:27:00 I know this might be sounding like a straight hit to the fanboys of Zune . But yeah, why not sit down and just decide upon why would anyone go for a Zune when umm...iPod is there? The Zune is now available in 4GB,8GB and 80 GB similar to the previous generation of iPod. And with the new generation of iPods having taken the market by storm and with the new additions to the family -iPod Touch and the revamping of the already existing Nano and iPod Classic, the reason for opting a Zune over all these options seems pretty questionable. So, if you are not one of the hardcore MS fanboys or Zune fanboys, why'd one opt for a Zune? I have been through extreme soul-searching and have come up with a list of 5 such reasons. Hope you agree with them. But if you don't , you are free to counter them, or just express your views on this.So here goes the list.1.not iTunes only: iPod and all things Apple are iTunes only. This has many issues addressed already in zillions of forums across the Net. Won...

Facebook to Join Opensocial?
2007-11-10 13:17:00 Okay, we all know that Opensocial didn't actually take all of us by storm. But yeah! its from Google. So, everyone is taking notice. Would it really be the same if say Yahoo, or Microsoft or AOL was making the same kind of announcements? Yep, I have already discussed this on my previous blog. Here, I tell you this story by Josh from Business2.com ( a CNN Money affiliate). Josh here describes why Facebook should or shouldn't join the "Everybody-but-Facebook Alliance". The joining to the Opensocial API could end up forcing Facebook giving up its own FBML and adopting a common platform like Javascript or HTML.Read the entire stuff here. Firmware vs. Jailbreak
2007-11-10 12:59:00 The race is still on between the exa-Apple crackers and the Cupertino coders. And we ,as witnesses to the race of encryption-decryption and permission denied and access granted messages, have almost become tired of the whole thing. Last week, after the new firmware 1.1.2 launch, all the jailbreak-ed iPhone s who upgraded to it, got bricked. That's so sick! And now, even when the new iTunes isn't tuned for the new firmware, crackers have already made the jailbreak work for the iPod Touch and the jailbreak for the iPhone is in the pipeline and is believed to be out soon. When does this race end? At this pace, all we can expect is a 1.1.5 launch within the next 5 months and well another month at max for the jailbreak to follow. Or will the France launch of the iPhone stop it all?Who's to blame? Jobs, AT&T , or ..I donno.UPDATE######## tuaw.com is featuring a story on the testing of the Jailbreak for the iPhone 1.1.2 firmware. Fingers crossed!!! More About: Firmware
Happy Diwali from Orkut
2007-11-08 18:15:00 India is no.2 in terms of Orkut user base, behind only Brazil, and this is why Orkut is getting so India-centric(which is definitely a good thing). Also, it is believed that most of Orkut's maintenance and enhancements are done in Google India ( I said BELIEVED, no one can say it for sure, may be Sergey and Larry). This one is a festive treat. The Orkut page has a Diwali flavour. Go to your profile, and just left to the space where you see your email ID flashing, you'd see a link called Happy Diwali. And if you click on it. Voila! This is what you get, a brand new Festive Look with all the Aatishbazeee( Fireworks!!!!). HAPPY DIWALI to all the readers of Techkeyla and all the internet junkies like me. May this festive season bring a lot of gadgets, gizmos and "peace and happiness" of course to all our lives! Thanks for reading Techkeyla. Keep the love flowing in and yeah, you can click the ads, they don't bite.LOL.P.S. This functionality is only available in India, or to Orkut users ... More About: Hacks , Social Networking
Continuous Battery Power for 3 years
2007-11-08 11:00:00 Is that possible? The guys at Next Energy New believe so. Thanks to a project funded by US Air Force Research Labs, these batteries, known as Betavoltaic Batteries are constructed from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the energy source. The funda behind the working of this battery is, as the radioisotopes decay, they emit beta particles which get transformed into electric energy capable of supplying power to a laptop for say years. Just imagine, you would not need to charge your Laptop, and enjoy your cordless computing experience. All you need now is a DataCard based Internet access or a Wi-Fi.For the full report visit this Link More About: Technology , Power , Battery , Years , Intro
5 things I want from the new Gmail
2007-11-08 08:12:00 The New version of Gmail is here and is rolled out for all, who use Firefox based Browsers. IE is as expected, not prepared yet. But have we really seen any difference between this and the previous version. The New version doesn't seem to load faster in a very obvious way, the contacts page change isn't as useful as it may sound and well, the yellow shade change mentioned in my previous post is just a mere tone down of the hue. Nothing more, nothing less. As everyone, I too expected much more from the new version. So here is a list of the 5 things I want from Gmail 2.0. I hope Sergey and Larry take notice.1: HTML and Picture Emails:They enabled the Orkut scrapbook, they should do the same for the Inbox too. Who wouldn't love Graphics flashing out , or Youtube Videos directly in your Inbox? That's an awesome thought right! 1.1:An HTML Support for Signatures:See I'm not one of those who use Mail Clients for my personal mail,( I use Lotus Notes for my Office Mail). Primari... BSOD questions me!
2007-11-07 12:14:00 Okay we all are familiar with the not-so-friendly Windows feature BSOD aka Blue Screen of Death. No bells ringing yet.Have a look at it.Aah there you have. The question is , how do you take a screenshot of it. I got this one from Wikipedia. So does it mean, this one's fake? Coz one can't take a screenshot of BSOD, coz once it shows up, all you can do is push the restart button and illegally shut down/reboot. Any answers Wiki? More About: Questions , Fakes
5 Google Possibilities
2007-11-07 05:45:00 Remember Skynet from T2:Judgement Day? Yep the one huge AI network that takes control and then BOOM! People draw parallels between Internet and Skynet, or whatever. But to me, Google is actually the better comparison. Look at GOOG. Search Engine, Mail, Maps, Ads, Social Networking, Groups, Social Networking APIs, Blogs, Desktop Search, Translators,Codes, Labs, Books,Desktop Toolbars, IM, Photo Sharing ,YOUTUBE and now Mobile OS. Is it all covered, or did I miss anything in the list?So what more can we expect from Google in the future? Here is a list of what I think Google should/would or could do in the next few years (ETA not provided,LOL).1. A full fledged Google Desktop Operating System , not a mobile one ,which is Opensource and can run on any Machine with a Motherboard. C'mon wouldn't it be great to see the Big G on your Desktop as your OS? The focus could be on fast loading and Better Security.2.A Google Phone- yeah who wouldn't go for it? Tired of Facebook!
2007-11-07 05:30:00 I am so tired of the overdose of news pouring in from all possible avenues. I mean, there's a limit to all this you know. All the online spaces have been filled to brim with everything that has to do with Facebook to such an extent that it has started to repel. It started with the " Is it gonna be GOOG or the Redmond Guys?" , and then the 240 million$ deal, the total value evaluation a 15 billion bucks, GOOG's retaliation with the Project Maka Maka, and Campfire One, and then official Facebook nemesis Opensocial API. I had started to get tired already until Facebook punched in my face.Don't trust me. Go to Techmeme.com right now and just have a look. The entire first page is filled with topics and discussions about Facebook's Self Ads,Social Ads, MySpace Ads. What the F!!! I think more than we users (50 million of us on facebook), these Industry giants are more enthusiastic, more eager, and more desperate to Socially Network! Yeah, after all they are getting all the money.P.S. ... More About: News , Social Networking , Tired , Tire

Fake Quote:1.1
2007-11-05 20:52:00 Okay its version 1.1 time. I have been quite busy writing about Social Networking and Facebook and Opensocial and all at that GOOG has to offer. Lets get creative and try writing a better fake quote than the previous one.Gates: I have 10 billion dollars in my pocket right now. 10 billion dollars, coz I know the password of Steve's MSN account where he keeps his account details. And well, I'm gonna use his iPhone to access it. Social Networking vs. Networking Socially
2007-11-05 16:34:00 I read an article by my friend Jason Walls at Social Media Explorer titled Why Networking Socially Beats Social Networking Every Time. A similar opinion has been expressed in Eminem style. This one is called Shannon Matesky ( donno which talent hunt this was, would love to know it). Really cool . Check it out.Good playing with the rhymes. P.S. This one is a direct hit to Myspace in particular. More About: Videos , Humor
Flock 1.0 for Facebook
2007-11-05 10:53:00 I never knew about this almost Mozilla Browser. It eats up resources as much as my Firefox, and well you know what, it serves me the best for my Social Networking ,RSS feeds and Blogging needs.L&G's introducing Flock 1.0. I know it has been around for quite a while now. My ignorance, apologies. The best feature according to me (given the facebook flocker I am), is the facebook people tab. Have a look at the screenshot below. Ain't it helpful enough? There is a very arranged RSS Reader, but I had problems in importing my bookmarks html which I exported from Firefox.Haven't sorted it out. I tried importing directly from Firefox, but somehow some folders got skipped. Hmm! Any solutions to this one. Meanwhile enjoy the Facebook stuff. Have been drooling over it for the whole day . Back to Facebook
2007-11-05 06:41:00 I had promised not to get back to this topic for a week at least. I couldn't do it. Primarily for this article by Jack Schofield on the Guardian It points out how Google 's entire Opensocial is more hype than substance. It puts a direct question on the entire openness. What's so open about it? Schofield puts it this way.First, as far as I can see, it's just a widget format, ie Google Gadgets. I'm sure there is value to having a common Google-sponsored widget format for mini-applications, because it reduces the amount of work needed to put Vampires or whatever on different social networking sites. But really, who cares?Second, I can't see what's open about it. Sure anybody can write apps for it, but anybody can write apps for Facebook , or, indeed, Windows. There's more to come, but at the moment, it looks just as proprietary as the Facebook system it more-or-less copies. The main difference being that Google appears to own and control the OpenSocial container/API in which the w... More About: Social Networking , Back
