Page Rank Leakage
2008-05-02 14:11:00 One interesting thing related to links is the idea of a PR leakage. The PR theory is that a single link to another site counts as one editorial vote. Editorial votes are the building blocks of Page Rank . Accordingly, the higher the PR of the site doing the voting the bigger will be the impact come PR upgrade time. This also has a bearing on a particular site’s SERP standing. Supposedly, PR leakage occurs when a certain blog has way too many outgoing links. When this happens that site’s voting power becomes less potent compared with others of the same PR but with way lesser outgoing links. That’s the general idea behind this concept. Now whether you believe this concept is entirely up to you. I have read about this in several authoritative blogs but I have yet to read about a concrete example of this. Although this makes a lot of sense to me, I still wonder how this actually pans out. Will a blog with too many outgoing links be downgraded in the subsequent PR upgrade? ...

Link Exchange, Anyone?
2008-05-02 14:03:00 This is a tired subject for anyone who has been in the blogging business for a long time. This has been discussed at least a hundred times in webmaster forums and in blogs all over the internet. But to those new in the game, especially those who have aggressively sought link exchanges, here is a Google policy to ponder on;Link Schemes Your site's ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity. However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site's ranking in search resul... More About: Link Exchange , Blogging , Exchange
Bad, Bad Backlinks Checker
2008-05-01 04:33:00 One of the things that can get you penalized by the almighty Google is when you link to some sites that are totally not related to you. I'm not sure if it's possible for one to unknowingly link to a gambling or a pornography site without the blogger's knowledge. But let's just say for argument's sake that the blogger really did not know that his site is linking to a bad site? As a segue, the thing to fear are outward links as these are the links that the blogger/site owner can control. Incoming links are not a cause for worry as it usually is beyond the blogger's control unless the blogger himself owns the other blog. But what if, really, the owner of a blog is toally clueless that he's been linking to a bad site? What does he do now, examine each link in his blog? That could take forever. But not to worry, I found this little link that allows the blogger to automatically check on all the outgoing links in his blog and check if some of those links are bad. It's a nifty... One Dollar Loving
2008-04-30 15:17:00 I'm trying out scratchback's Show Some Love widget on this site. Seems like a real fun way to earn a few bucks. I've made my pricing real low though, so if you want to show your love, you only have to shell out ONE DOLLAR.There's actually a very good story behind the scratchback widget (wrote about it here). This came about the first Google purge-- that time when Google was running after blogs that were selling paid links. It was only recently when they've set their eyes on paid posting companies.Anyway the scratchback widget is just like a tipping jar. You like some of the posts here in my blog for example and you're feeling really generous, you use that widget to show your appreciation. As I said, I'm very shallow. It only takes ONE DOLLAR to make me happy. And in return, you can highlight your link on the widget with all the anchor links you want.Be the first to get in there! 3 To 4 Then 3 Again And Then Back To 4
2008-04-30 07:06:00 **Latest UpdateAnd for some reason, my PR has now gone back up to PR4. lol. This is a rollercoaster ride I'm telling ya. :)**UpdateLooks like there's some pendulum-swinging going on. Earlier today I got excited over the PR bump I thought I got from Google. I checked the PRcheckers around and the bump was confirmed. After a few hours however, I landed back to earth. With a thud. Looks like Google is still fine tuning its update so I'm now back to my curvaceous PR3 although some site checkers still insist that I got the bump. Oh well better not get too excited. Weh.Forgive my immodesty dear visitor, but if you will kindly direct your attention to your google toolbar, the part where they show the page rank of this blog, you may notice that there are far more green there than you may have been accustomed to.That's right, google's at it again. The PR ranking system has been updated and I am, proudly and unabashedly, happy to say that my little PR 3 was given a little bump in the po... More About: Blogging , Back , Special Interest
Backlink Builder: Pinoy Blogs With CommentLuv Enabled
2008-04-29 11:55:00 If you are looking for pinoy blogs that sport the commentluv plug-in, look no further. I have listed below some of these blogs for your convenience. My criteria for including blogs here is of course, they're pinoy blogs, they're current, and they have the commentluv plug-in installed. I hope that when they see their blogs here, they would be moved to linking mine as well (I wish). To the uninitiated, commenting on blogs with commentluv plug-ins is one of the easiest way to build backlinks for your blogs. Backlinks (in case you do not know yet) boost your rankings, higher rankings significantly improves your paid post opportunities, paid post opportunities lead to more money, and of course more money leads you to the dark side of the force. Kidding. But seriously, if you are thinking of improving your traffic via a commenting strategy, then you might as well hit two birds with one stone by commenting on blogs with the commentluv plug-in enabled. You not only fulfill your goal of ... More About: Blogging , Blogs , Pinoy , Builder
Technorati Slide
2008-04-27 06:15:00 My Technorati Authority is slipping-- why, why, why? Before we all go over the top and question the heavens for conspiring against us, here are the basics on Technorati Authority;Your Technorati Authority is very much dependent on two things-- reactions and time.Reactions are the inbound links to you from other sites. The more inbound links you have, the higher will be your Technorati Authority. However, it is always about the number of sites/blogs and not the number of links; which means that even if a blog links to your site a million times, Technorati will only count that as one. The time consideration means that one inbound link will prop your authority for 180 days. After that number of days, that links power ceases and you can actually see your Technorati Authority slipping. Thus, Technorati Authority is not always about forward movement, overtime, especially when your inbound links are not growing as much as you would like, you would see some setback in your Technorati A... Wesley Snipes Sentenced To Three Years For Tax Evasion
2008-04-26 01:11:00 3 years. That?s the number of years that Wesley Snipes will be sent to prison for not paying his taxes. This is another example that lends credibility to the truism that one cannot escape death and taxes, unless you live in the Philippines. If my memory serves me right, tax evasion was also Al Capone?s downfall. But the question really is-- why the heck am I talking about Wesley Snipes in this blog? The obvious reason (though I will never own up to it) is that this is going to be fodder for search engines in the next few days or weeks and I?ll be damned if I?m going to let this opportunity pass by without me getting a piece of the action. Let?s see if I do get my hands dirty on this one.My official pronouncement however as to why I am including Wesley Snipes? sorry fate in this space is to warn those folks who are earning a lot from blogging that if you are not careful, you may be sharing Wesley Snipes' fate. Whatever you earn from blogging will always be covered by your own country... More About: Years , Tax evasion , Sentenced , Special Interest
Have You Tried Google Alert?
2008-04-25 06:44:00 As the name suggests this service gives you an alert everytime there is a news info or tidbit on something that you are monitoring, be it your favorite sports team, your celebrity crush, and yes?even your keyword. Just today, my usually flat traffic is getting a lot of spikes after I created a forum somewhere about the Kizuna Satellite. I am very interested about this topic as I have a beef with lousy internet service providers. To ensure that I get a first whiff of whatever is written on the net about the Kizuna Satellite, I have placed this exact same phrase as one of my Google Alert s. The process is a no brainer. All you have to do is go to http://www.google.com/alerts and then specify what specific search term you like, and all other info required to get you what you want. You then put in the email address that you want to receive the alert, and voila! No more crazy searching around the infinite corners of the web for whatever it is that rocks your boat. Big Thanks!
2008-04-24 05:04:00 No, I have not won yet, but if the internet were to crash for-- say 6 days-- then definitely I am going to win hands down. However I feel that I have already done enough and have troubled people enough into voting for me that I have to come down that voting mountain and focus on stuff that I hope people (bloggers and non-bloggers alike) would find useful. I know it must be frustrating to stumble on this blog and see the same self-promotion day-in and day-out (I can already hear the regulars thinking "tell me about it"). But not to worry, the poll fixation is over. This madness has got to stop sometime anyway. Win or lose, I am grateful that folks actually voted for my entry-- which in my book translates to a vote for me! Imagine that!So to all you who voted (those not mentioned here, please leave a note; an outbound link is the least I can do for the kindness you've shown):PanaderosDurano Lawayan aka Brad SpitCebloggerThanMenaceA big thanks to you guys! VOTE FOR ME!
2008-04-10 06:28:00 A couple of weeks ago I joined a contest at eblogtemplates.com where I submitted a template for porting to Blogger. The winning template will have the submitting bloggers name in the end credits of the ported template. Several weeks and submissions later, the template I submitted was chosen as one of the two finalists. Now it all boils down to which template gets the most number of votes from visitors to that site.Because I really want to win that contest as I have NEVER won an internet contest before, I will be running a series of campaign posters here until the end of the month when the winner (hopefully me) will be chosen based on the number of votes cast. You can either click on this link to vote for me (oh please do, what's 20 seconds of your life), or you can click directly on the poster to again, vote for me (oh please do... you know the rest). Latest News On The Kizuna Satellite
2008-04-10 00:12:00 155MBps - that's the confirmed downstream speed of the Kizuna Satellite to super small earth stations (these are 45 cm diameter antennas that can be used in homes) according to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). This speed is the fastest in the world. JAXA conducted their tests from March 28 - April 7, 2008. See full story here. This is awesome news for Asia Pacific countries that are plaqued by lousy Telcos who charge an arm and a leg for their crappy services. With this development, we are one step closer to being liberated from the third world curse of slow internet speed and crappy connections. Let us all hope that this is the start of something great. This would indeed be a great leveller of the current communication divide.I hope this one will be up really soon and offered everywhere. At promised internet connection speed of up to 1.2GBps this one is bound to decimate the competition. The Kizuna Satellite is projected to go live in July of this year.Globe, Smart, what say you? The Art of Link Baiting
2008-04-09 09:38:00 Author: Alex LandinThere aren?t a lot of people who have heard about link baiting. Perhaps they?re thinking that the process can be a little bit complicated. The truth is it?s not. The logic is actually pretty simple and very obvious. As the name implies, your main reason for link baiting is to attract inbound links to the different pages of your website. Why do you have to pursue link baiting? There are two good reasons why link baiting is an excellent organic seo technique. First of all, it can improve the strength of your pages. The more inbound links your webpage has, the stronger it will become. As you know, search engines are attracted to webpages that are considered strong. Hence, you will enjoy much better search engine rankings. Second, you will be ranking not only on your targeted keywords or phrases, but also in related terms. This is very important if you want to improve your chances of being seen in search engines. For example, if you are operating a website about acne tr... More About: Blogging , Link , Baiting
Still No Update On The Kizuna Satellite
2008-04-02 14:25:00 It’s been almost a month since I blogged about the Kizuna Satellite , and to date, there are no updates except for the joint exercise that Japanese and American Astronauts did. This is quite a shame as I am in a dilemma on whether to get that faster broadband connection or not.I was hoping that the Kizuna boys would be constantly updating their site given the magnitude of the implications that this project has in store for the AsiaPacific region. While the number of internet users in this part of the world has been growing by leaps and bounds, technology, specifically connectivity speed hasn’t really stepped up.As a background for those who have only heard about the Kizuna Satellite, this is a Japan initiative that hopes to provide superfast internet connection in the region, not just Japan. To read more about this, click on this link ==>> Kizuna Satellite Launched. One of the things I blogged about on this subject is the study done by an Australian post-grad student in increasing... TechnoJavi Month of March Wrap Up
2008-03-31 14:50:00 March has been a tremendous month for this blog. Finally there seems to be a definite direction for this blog to take. If you think this is still all over the place, you should have visited me a few months ago. The month of March saw this blog reach new heights in terms of daily traffic and posts. I won’t mention the average daily traffic now (it’s laughable by other people’s standards) but it is a personal best.I’ve also come to some realizations this month. Chief of them is that sponsored posts will forever drag your blog to muck and back not to mention that you don’t exactly endear yourself to Google. Why endear ourselves to Google? Well if you haven’t noticed, the internet this days has become Google’s playground, and as they say, when in Rome..The Mac, unfortunately I have to say this, rules. There are some things you can do with the Mac that PC users can only dream about. If you’ve read the article I did on breaking the Entrecard Bank, and I even audac... More About: March , Month , Wrap
The 2007 Philippines Board Exam Results Race is On!
2008-03-29 00:03:00 **Update!! Here's the link for the full result. In a few hours the 2007 Philippines Bar Exam Results will be out in the streets and a lot of folks? tears will flow. This is inevitable as only a handful of examiners are bound to be successful. But behind the background there?s another race that?s brewing (one that I?m more interested in), and that?s the race to be on top of Google?s search engine for this keyword. It is expected that thousands would flock to the internet to check whether their favorite uncle or son or neighbor passed the exam and those on top of the ranking will definitely get the lion?s share of this targeted traffic. And as you know traffic translates to lots of money.Local SEOs have been really busy the past few days positioning themselves to be on top of the heap. It would be really interesting who?d get the first place. The one leading the pack is philippineboardexamresults.blogspot.com. Let?s see if he keeps that position when it matters the most-- which... Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is
2008-03-28 08:00:00 For several posts now, I have been espousing my belief that in the long run, Affiliate Programs will run roughshod over Sponsored Posts. Some readers may have been thinking that it's just a form of pontificating, of talking crap about something I have no firsthand experience about. So I've displayed some ads and enrolled in some Affiliate Networks, but what does that really say about me?In all honesty, I couldn't really blame them for thinking that way. It is indeed a bit of a stretch for someone to talk of something that he hasn't experienced himself. Some wise dude said it very well, he said-- It's dangerous to talk about things that we have so little knowledge of. And I agree. So what I did, to gain the expertise and to learn by doing, I enrolled in an online affiliate learning course. The course is aptly titled Affiliate Classroom. And man, this early I have no doubt that it's money well spent. Not just well I think. It's money absolutely, fantastically well spent!!Th... More About: Money , Mouth , Putting

12 Blogger Widgets To Spice Up Your Blog
2008-03-27 12:08:00 There are a thousand and one blogger widgets in the net today, and while some may provide aesthetic value to your blog, most of them are just that-- aesthetics. If your only reason for blogging is to satisfy yourself then you?re in for a wonderful ride. You could practically wade through hundreds of cool plug-ins that would quench your thirst for your blog?s beautification. While I have no objections to all these zings and dings, wouldn?t it be a lot cooler if those widgets you cram your blog with provide you with more than just cosmetics? In my relatively short foray into blogging I find that the following widgets give a blog more than the usual narcissistic satisfaction; 1. Recent Posts Widget ? depending on your preference, this widget can display your last 5 or 10 posts in your sidebar. You can either put this as one of your page elements by adding a feed . You do this by going to your blogger's layout page, add a page element, select feeds, and then in the url, t... More About: Blogger , Widgets , Blog , Spice
2008 Free Blogger Templates
2008-03-23 23:19:00 This is a long overdue follow-up to my 10 of the Best Free Blogger Templates post. I have been restraining myself from immediately doing a sequel to that post after seeing the new batch of free blogger templates templates that were recently released. I guess I've waited long enough. The below templates are some of the coolest templates I've come across with recently and I do think each one deserves an explanation why they are cool.1. Forte Template - this template improves on the functionality of the WP Premium template-- the template that I'm using. Instead of just two tabs (if you refer to the upper right portion of this template), the Forte has three, and here you can put in your labels, your categories, and your links. Very cool I must say. But what sets this apart from the WP Premium template is the footer. If you will scroll down on the demo page, you can see that there are a lot of widget ready space down there. You can include a lot of widgets on this baby that you... More About: 2008
Affiliate Programs Vs Sponsored Posts
2008-03-15 05:26:00 A lot can be said about sponsored posts, quick cash is one of them. Sponsored post networks like Pay Per Post, Smorty, PayU2Blog etc.. offer the fastest way to earn money for your blogs. Unfortunately these modes of earning money are under Google?s radar as undesirables. The main objection with this money-making venture is that it props up the PRs of those advertisers being talked about in sponsored posts via links. Also, the blogger is somewhat coerced into writing favorable reviews in order for their posts to be approved and henceforth paid. Why would an advertiser approve a negative write-up in the first place? Purists will even contend that writing sponsored posts is tantamount to selling your soul down the river. Affiliate programs however, differ from sponsored posts in the sense that while they do have some articles with embedded links that the member may use in his blog, they also provide alternatives in the form of banner ads. By simply placing banner ads on blogs, th... More About: Affiliate Programs , Programs , Posts
Breaking The Entrecard Bank
2008-03-12 18:30:00 One of the things that has set the blogging world abuzz these days is the very cool idea called Entrecard. It has become so popular that it has transcended its initial design of being able to gain enough Entrecard credits through card dropping in order to ?buy? adspace in Entrecard member blogs. If you go to Ebay for example, you can see Entrecard credits being sold. The average price for Entrecard points is $4 per 1000.In the last few days, I have developed a way of amassing large numbers of Entrecard points with just a click of a button. Sounds too good to be true? Well yes it actually is, especially on my part. However, the only reason that what I have developed did not work is because I have a lousy internet connection. But for those who have very good connection especially those who are located in the first world countries, this way will definitely work. I think. This idea however is enough to make Entrecard go belly up. Sounds like bullshit doesn?t it? But really the logic is s... More About: Blogging , Bank , Breaking , Show Me the Money
Affiliate Programs 2008
2008-03-06 04:58:00 Almost everyone (including their mother) these days has a blog-- and that is fine. It goes to show how pervasive the effect of blogging is in our lives. As bloggers mature, and some even when they're still immature, they will at one time or another think about how to make money off their blogs. This is not entirely a mercenary point of view. Who wouldn't want to get paid doing the thing they love? The most popular blog money making activity today are the sponsored posts. With this scheme, bloggers are paid a fixed amount (most of the time at least) to talk about a certain product or service that some company offers. Again, this is well and good. As with all things however, when done to the extreme, the original reason why some of these folks created their blogs in the first place gets lost-- sold down the river. And their blogs now look like a hodge-podge marketplace of links and posts that very few of their readers care about. One of the more obvious income generating thi... KIZUNA: The Ides Of July
2008-03-04 15:26:00 You read that right.July is the month when Globe, PLDT, and all those other mediocre broadband providers in the Philippines start shaking in their boots. Because on this month, Japan?s Kizuna satellite goes live. The KizunaKizu.. what? The "KIZUNA" is a communications satellite that enables super high-speed data communications of up to 1.2 Gbps to develop a society without any information availability disparity, in which everybody can equally enjoy high-speed communications wherever they live. The Internet is now an integral part of our lives; but its infrastructure levels vary. In general, urban areas with a large population have a better Internet environment, whereas some mountainous regions and remote islands are not well-equipped with Internet infrastructure due to its costs. The KIZUNA (WINDS) does not require costly ground equipment. If you install a small antenna (about 45 cm in diameter) at your house, you can receive data at up to 155Mbps and transmit data at up to 6 Mbps. With... More About: Special Interest

Make Entrecard Work For You
2008-03-03 00:36:00 I have recently joined Entrecard and already I am on my way to joining the ranks of Entrecard Anonymous. I like the idea of working hard for your Entrecard credits to afford advertising in other people's sites. It's also a very good source for traffic. Some Entrecard members are conscientious enough to always drop back-- to the uninitiated with the Entrecard ways, it means they check out who dropped them an Entrecard and proceed to visit that site and drop theirs as well. For the past days, I have been dropping cards at the rate of 150 a day; I know, I know, an Entrecard addict in the making. There are some things I've noticed though in the course of my 'droppings' and these things I would like to share with you just in case you happen to overlook these things.1. Place your Entrecard widget at the bottom of your blog. Some bloggers put their Entrecard widget right on top of their blogs. While this is very helpful for Entrecard bloggers, this does nothing to help your blog... More About: Blogging , Work , Make
Free Blogger Templates : 10 Of The Coolest 2 Column Blogger Templates
More articles from this author:2008-03-01 15:35:00 These are 10 of the coolest free 2-column blogger templates I've seen on the internet and they are all housed under blogandweb.com. The only thing is, the website is in Spanish. I'm almost sure that a lot of bloggers were turned off by this limitation. I should know, I was turned off at first. But looking at the really cool templates made me return to the site again and again despite the communication barrier.Eventually I decided that, what the heck, I might as well translate what's being said there about installation instructions and all that. With a little help from Babelfish, I came up with the demo sites in English so the 2-column loving blogger would appreciate these templates. Under these demo sites, I've also translated the pertinent instructions from Blogandweb. Of course all credits and links were retained as I did not create a download site of my own, all downloads of the template will still point to Blogandweb's original design.Enjoy!!
