Online Blogging Resource Store
2008-06-07 11:40:00
Powered by Bookmarkify™ I was playing around with Amazon.com’s new concoction the aStore and I came up with my own online store.  Since I am absolutely crazy about blogging these days, I can only come up with a store selling all kinds of blogging books.  It’s amazing how many blogging books are out there. Anyway check out the store I created and see if there’s any book there to your liking.  You don’t really have to buy any of those books, it’s just for your reference should you wish to advance your blogging knowledge in the future.  And if you decide to buy any of the books listed there, well, that’s money for me and thank you very much. Free Beautiful Wordpress Templates
2008-06-03 11:23:00
Powered by Bookmarkify™I wasn’t able to update this blog as much as I wanted to because of some whatever reason. But now that I’ve finally gotten around to doing what’s supposed to be done, I came face to face with a rather daunting task for a wordpress newbie– modifying my free wordpress template so it won’t look like one of those cookie-cutter themes. Because I used to be a Blogger fan boy (I think I still am except that I’ve migrated my blogs to wordpress), I am somewhat perplexed as to what to do first. Since I have a self-hosted wordpress installation, I had to deal with changing permissions and making sense out of all the wordpress .php files. I guess all that practice in modifying blogger templates did pay-off. Still I managed to make a decent (still not perfect) job I guess. Although, man, Internet Explorer likes to make a mess of things. How I Came Up With My Gorgeous Wordpress Template Let’s see, I started with a whole l...

Make The Switch To Firefox
2008-05-29 15:05:00
If there’s one more reason for you to switch to Firefox , look no further than this blog.  Using Internet Explorer, when you type this blog’s address, you will notice how screwed up the design is– something that is never a problem with Firefox. Then there’s my redirect.  If you type http://technojavi.blogspot.com IE will return a ‘page cannot be displayed’ error, while Firefox will redirect you to this blog. So darned frustrating.  I may have to do a lot of research to correct this blasted thing. Unless you are a Microsoft employee, there’s really no excuse for you to still be using Internet Explorer. Scoutle - An Automated Social Networking Site
2008-05-25 20:16:00
I just signed up at Scoutle, a very interesting social networking site. I first read about this site at Techcrunch and while I thought it was a very novel idea then, I didn’t really pay much attention to it.  As I am wont to do however, I just starred the article on my Google Reader for my weekend review.  When I read the article again earlier I decided to give it a go. Scoutle is very interesting in the sense that you don’t actually do the networking yourself.  Once you register to their site, you will have to create your own scout.  You select the category and subcategories that are relevant to your site.  You then name your scout and place a tag line or a slogan to make it more interesting.  After installing a code snippet on your site also known to Scoutle as a Stage, your scout is ready to go. Your created scout will automatically crawl the internet for scouts of related interests.  Your scout will then log all its meetings with other scouts in your Scoutle p...

Free Wordpress SEO eBook
2008-05-25 17:32:00
This free SEO eBook could not have come at a better time. I have recently migrated my free Blogger blog to Wordpress and I was anxious to do everything right the first time. Luckily I found a good Wordpress resource from the Search Engine Journal site. This resource is a FREE WORDPRESS SEO eBOOK authored by Mihaela Lica of http://ewriting.pamil-visions.com. I have been an avid subscriber of Search Engine Journal and have religiously read their articles everyday. I find most of their posts to be very helpful for bloggers. The FREE SEO eBOOK is especially written for Wordpress although it can be adapted to apply to other blogging platforms as well. Although the SEO techniques described therein is very basic from the point of view of an SEO expert, to a newbie blogger like me, the techniques were very helpful. The FREE SEO eBOOK covers general topics from installing Wordpress to link building tips. I especially liked the part where that very helpful Wordpress plugin, All-in-one ...

Migration From Beta Blogger To Wordpress
2008-05-24 22:34:00
Man this is some work. I have read almost all the how to’s on painless beta blogger migrations to wordpress and I have to say this is excruciating work! Still after having finally done it, everything seems worth the hours spent in front of my computer. A lot of the experts agree on two things to do the migration but with usually the same goal/s in mind– ensuring that the previous links don’t get broken and all that google juice and pagerank will not go to waste. In my previous free blog I have already cranked up the PR meter to PR4 and have managed to land in the first page of some very competitive keywords. The problem was I was using a free account. I really should have started with a dotcom from the very start. Had I done that, I wouldn’t have to go through all the research I did in order to migrate successfully. But still, there is a silver lining in all of these. Had I started with a dotcom from the get go, I wouldn’t have learned about 301...

Kizuna Satellite Internet Is The Answer
2008-05-22 08:59:00
I’ve been eagerly awaiting the commercial launch of Japan’s Kizuna satellite that will provide satellite internet for the Asia Pacific Region. At this time, DSL is the most popular internet connection we have in the Philippines. It’s not perfect (a gross understatement) but it gets the job done. Although a lot of folks are already quite content with what’s currently available. I do think that things can be a lot better. I’ve been to a few countries outside of the Philippines and some of these countries although smaller in size have internet connections that can only make me drool. Some folks have been proclaiming the advent of fiber optics as the savior of the internet in these parts but I sincerely doubt that it would work in this country. Haven’t we had enough of all those diggings and the overhanging wires that actually makes the Metro look like a wired jungle? I do think that the solution will come from heaven– via satellite inter...

5-Minute Ceiling Patrol
2008-05-20 23:40:00
This post is my entry to a blog competition over at FuelMyBlog sponsored by Tsheets.com.Given my predisposition to blog at all times of the day, one would think that the first 5 minutes of my working time would be spent hunched in front of the computer, checking the previous night’s blog stats. While this may be a likely scenario (after all, my computer is just beside my bed and is running almost 24/7), this is actually not the case 99.99% of the time. My working day’s first 5 minutes is usually spent doing ceiling patrol. I scan my bedroom ceiling with my eyes, taking note of every crook and crevice while reviewing the previous day’s happenings and planning the things that I want to accomplish for the day. Of course at the back of my mind, I’m already itching to see if somebody has left a comment on my latest blog post, but I try to keep that urge under control. Sometimes during these 5-minute reveries, I wonder if I’m not missing out on life with the kind of lifestyl...

What Is The Philippines’ Stand On The Kizuna Satellite?
2008-05-19 18:22:00
The Micronesian Chief Executives Summit is already discussing their participation in the Japan Kizuna or WINDS Satellite . The big question is, why is the Philippine government still mum about this? Are we gonna be playing catch-up again, or is there a bigger agenda involved? Representatives from the Governments took advantage of the opportunity of two meetings occurring at the same time in Palau during April 2008: the Micronesian Chief Executives’ Summit (MCES) and the Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association (PITA.) It was recommended that the Chief Executives approve a new committee, called the Telecommunications Committee and the Chief Executives received the report and agreed. The main purposes of the Telecommunications Committee will be to serve as a forum to (1) exchange information in the areas of telecommunications and ICT policy, planning, technology systems, and applications; (2) to identify and create opportunities for sharing e-government, e-learning, and e-healt...

To .Com Or Not To .Com - Blogging For Beginners Series #1

Before reading further, I suggest you read this article first — Why Do You Want To Blog — this is my way of ensuring that you get your head straight. Blogging may be easy and fun but it burns a lot of time. Make sure that you don’t waste yours by thinking about the questions posed in this article. Ok, assuming that you already have all your ducks in a row, the first and very important thing that you need to tackle is this. Should you get a .Com or not? There are many arguments surrounding this question. But most of the time the counter-argument is always THE COST. Why would I shell out money for something that I will be doing for fun and only in my free time? Why indeed? I believe a little background is in order. There are two very powerful blogging platforms in the internet today– Blogger, and Wordpress. Sure there are others like Xanga and Typepad and if you’re Pinoy, there’s I.ph. Kizuna Satellite May 2008 Update
2008-05-14 05:17:00
I got a hit on my Google Alert today about the Kizuna. However, I’m having a hard time looking for the direct link to the Kizuna Satellite website (JAXA) so I’m posting a portion of the Yahoo! News here for you guys to follow. This should be as good a source as any. Japanese Internet Satellite Hits 1.2Gbps Engineers testing a recently launched Japanese data communications satellite have succeeded in establishing a two-way Internet link running at 1.2G bps (bits per second) each way, they said Monday. The speed represents a record for satellite communications, according to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology. The tests were carried out on May 2 as part of verification of the Kizuna satellite. In the tests data was transmitted on two 622M-bps channels both up to the satellite and down to a receiving antenna. Together the combined data transmission speed w...

Introduction: Blogging For Beginners
2008-05-08 14:36:00
Looking at the things I’ve posted so far, I’ve come to notice how random my entries have become. Most of the time I’ve talked about things that interest me, and those that I’ve learned as I journey everyday towards the twilight of blog understanding. I’ve never really focused on one central idea so to speak. Which is just fine considering that blogging is supposed to be free and the blogger has all the rights in the world to talk about what he fancies as long as the things being talked about are within legal bounds. I surely don’t want to post something that would get me into trouble. Recently, blogging has become really, really interesting for me. It has been interesting from the start, but now as I gained a lot of insights towards this popular media, I felt the need to share something to those who are starting out. There may be a couple of things here that might be of interest to newbie bloggers but there seems to be no continuity in which those new to blogging c...

Homepage Startup And The Entrecard Dilemma
2008-05-06 09:04:00
Homepage Startup is a nice little website that allows an internet user to display thumbnails of his favorite websites. Instead of clicking on your bookmark or having to memorize all the internet addresses that you like, all you have to do is assign a box/thumbnail for each of these websites. That way, should you need to go to a particular website all you have to do is click the appropriate boxes. This makes things really easy especially if you point your homepage to the HomepageStartup you created. The site is free and registering to the site is quick and easy. At first glance, there really is nothing extraordinary to this site. In fact it’s pretty harmless. Sure it’s cool and makes things easier but a lot of sites are cool and make things easier too. But you see, while most folks see a regular, helpful, efficiency enhancing website, my somewhat perverted mind sees something else. Are you seeing what I’m seeing? Commented On
2008-05-05 13:47:00
Commented On is a new application that you folks may be interested in. This is a bookmarking application that keeps track of all the sites where you have placed a comment. Oftentimes we just place a comment on a blog we may have just stumbled on and then forget all about that comment. This has been a nagging problem with me before, especially during my rampant bloghopping days. I’d just comment away and forget all about it as I move to another blog. Sometimes I feel really frustrated because some of those blogs that I’ve visited are really good and I would have really wanted to visit them again. So much so that I was contemplating of creating some sort of a mash-up that would allow me to store all my comments and the related sites where those comments were submitted. Thankfully, with Comment On, I didn’t have to create one. Not that I would be able to create one anyway. I think the only thing here is if you have a lot of blogs and you use a lot of pen names ...
