Karnataka to set up Rs 100 crore Nano park in Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug. 21 (PTI): Karnataka would soon come up with the country's first nano park here at a cost of Rs 100 crore, a senior official said today.The Government has shortlisted four 15-acre plots between Nagawara and Jakkur here for the purpose, Secretary in the Department of IT, BT, Science & Technology, M N Vidyashankar said.He said an advisory committee, headed by eminent scientist C N R Rao, would finalise the location for the research and application-oriented nano park, which is expected to be a hub of such activities in the country.

Nano technology supporting filtration, distillation, and energy generation can produce potable water that meets drinking water standards in an environmentally responsible way. Approximately 99.8 percent of the sea water is recovered as drinking water.A water desalination system using carbon nanotube-based membranes could significantly reduce the cost of purifying water from the ocean. Simply put, because it will affect almost every aspect of our lives, from the medicines we use, to the power of our computers, the energy supplies we require, the food we eat, the cars we drive, the buildings we live in and the clothes we wear. More importantly, for every area where we can imagine an impact, there will be others no-one has thought of?new capabilities, new products, new markets.
