Uber Sexy Touchscreen Home Automation Hub
2008-05-12 19:48:00
Invariably there will be those that will argue that, in ?merely? being a concept, this touchscreen universal remote conceived of by David Chacon has the luxury of being as desirable as it pleases in being wholly fictitious and constrained only by the designer?s scope of imagination, but to do so would negate the fact that it?s the concepts of today lead to the products of tomorrow and so are as valid a focus of our attention as any product that has successfully made the truncated path through from concept to commercially available product.Known simply as the Universal Remote, David Chacon?s touchscreen concept is envisaged as being a flash based device capable of displaying (and therefore controlling) just about anything that?s can be controlled wirelessly, from switching TV channels, filtering through your MP3 playlists to closing your front room?s curtains and putting the your children to bed after reading them a storyAgreed, the concept is big on looks and somewhat lacking in spe...

RIM's Bold New Blackberry
2008-05-12 13:33:00
Research In Motion Ltd. on Monday is introducing its first major new BlackBerry model in more than a year: the Bold, a high-end model that further demonstrates the company's desire to make tools for both work and play. The Bold, or 9000, has twice the screen resolution of the current Curve model, making for a very sharp display. It matches the resolution, but not the size, of the screen on Apple Inc.'s iPhone, which has emerged as a potent competitor in the ''smart phone'' category. It also has much more internal memory, a glossy metallic look, and adds corporate-strength Wi-Fi capabilities to third-generation cellular and Bluetooth radios.Otherwise it stays close to the formula of the Curve, with a horizontal screen above a trackball and a keyboard with one letter per key.Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM didn't announce a price for the Bold, nor agreements with specific carriers. It said the phone would be available from various carriers this summer. The initial model would support ...

First Egg Phone with Touchscreen
2008-05-10 20:07:00
A young designer from Prague, the capital of Czech Republic, recently came up with a fresh and good looking mobile phone concept, called the Egg Phone . Far from being bulky like an egg,the new handset has an oval-shaped, curved case that seems to be quite slim and, more important, it can probably fit well in users' hands.Roman Tubl, the creator of the Egg handset, imagined the device having "illuminated" margins and a wide touchscreen display with tactile feedback, which represents the only way users can control the device's functions. Therefore, it seems we have here the very first full-touchscreen phone that clearly differentiates itself from Apple's iPhone and its design. Which is, obviously, a good thing.Besides the touchscreen, said to be easy to use, the Egg phone should also have a pretty cool range of features, including: a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB port for both charging and data transfers,The Egg Phone conceptEnlarge pictureand an internal memory of ...

Intel's First Nehalem Chipset - X58
2008-05-10 20:05:00
Intel's upcoming generation of processors, called the Nehalem, will be introduced later this year, and all the signals point to a Q4 release. As previously stated by the chip manufacturer during this spring's Intel DeveloperForum, the first Nehalem units to hit the market will be built on the 45-nanometer process technology (Bloomfield silicon) and will sport four processing cores. It is widely known that the 4-core behemoth will come with an integrated DDR3-1333 memory controller, SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) technology and 8 MB of L2 cache. The SMT implementation will allow each of the CPU cores to simultaneously process two threads, just like the previous HyperThreading technology introduced back in the Pentium 4 era.In spite of all the details regarding the Nehalem Bloomfield chips, Intel is still not talking about a supportive motherboard for the upcoming architecture. However, recent details leaked from the chip manufacturer point to the fact that the first Nehalem-read...

Nvidia 9900GTS and 9900GTX Drawings
2008-05-10 20:01:00
Two of Nvidia's upcoming graphics cards in the GeForce 9900 series got pictured yesterday. It's true that the images show an engineering drawing on the products rather than the functional unit, but they bring extra detailsabout a series of products kept under the deepest secrecy.According to a forum post at Xtreme Systems, the two picture cards are the upcoming 9900GTS and 9900GTX, both powered by Nvidia's GT-200 graphics engine. The two boards are codenamed P651 and P65x, respectively, and are both alleged to come with triple-SLI support.Nvidia's triple-SLI technology usually requires a single 8-pin power connector to meet the card's additional power requirements, since the PCI-Express 2.0 port cannot supply it by itself. According to the board drawings, the 9900 GTS will take up to 225 watts of power (75 watts + 150 watts), while the 9900 GTX version will draw about 300 watts (75 watts + 75 watts + 150 watts). While an 8-pin power connector can feed the board with 150 watts of...

More Hard Drive Options coming for the PlayStation 3
2008-05-10 08:35:00
As the PlayStation Day Europe event wrapped up, interest in the gaming console from Sony has increased in the game media again, especially as David Reeves, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has stated that the PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 in Europe in absolute numbers, by breaking the5 million sales mark. Now there's talk that the 40 GB version of the console is due for a make-over and that a new, improved version will make its way to retailers in the near future. But, talking to Eurogamer, Reeves pointed out to another possible development regarding the console: the addition of more storage space through additional hard drives. He declared: "We launched with 60GB and to reduce the price we went to 40GB. We're not sure we want to stay with that configuration of hard drive, and I think what you're going to see in the future is maybe consumers can choose".It's not clear whether Sony is ready to offer customized hard drives that can connect easily to the gaming console,...

MSI launches Titan 700 small-form-factor PC
2008-05-10 08:25:00
After announcing its Wind low-cost laptop, MSI has decided to take a crack at a low-cost, small-form-factor desktop PC. The company has announced the Titan 700, a system that seems to take after Apple's Mac mini, but with a more affordable price tag and less potent hardware.MSI designed the Titan 700 around the Mini-ITX form factor, and it packs a 2GHz VIA C7 processor, a VIA CN700 integrated graphics chipset, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 120GB 2.5" Serial ATA hard drive, and a slim DVD burner into its enclosure. At the back of the machine, you'll see ports for DVI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, USB, analog 5.1-channel audio, and (oddly) old-fashioned RS-232 connectivity. The Titan 700's hardware may not be the greatest, but MSI has managed to cram it into a very tight space. The whole PC measures only 185 mm × 240 mm × 70 mm (7.3" x 9.4" x 2.8"), and it's powered by a laptop-style 60W power supply. MSI has taken care to keep the system quiet, too: it quotes noise levels of 35dBA at load and only...

Hello friends this is a tip to make your xp boot first.First of all, this tweak only apply to those who only have one HDD on their primary IDE channel (nothing else on device 0 or 1) and a CD-ROM and/or DVD-ROM on the secondary IDE channel. Each time you boot Windows XP, there's an updated file called NTOSBOOT-*.pf who appears in your prefetch directory (%SystemRoot%Prefetch) and there's no need to erase any other files as the new prefetch option in XP really improves loading time of installed programs. We only want WindowsXP to boot faster and not decrease its performance. , result in an EXTREMELY fast bootup:1. Open notepad.exe, type "del c:windowsprefetch tosboot-*.* /q" (without the quotes) & save as "ntosboot.bat" in c:2. From the Start menu, select "Run..." & type "gpedit.msc".3. Double click "Windows Settings" under "Computer Configuration" and double click again on "Shutdown" in the right window. 4. Xbox 360 GPU to Change to 65nm In August
2008-05-09 19:18:00
Microsoft, which has been under a lot of fire for the high failure rate of its Xbox 360 consoles may by August of this year be facing an end to this problem. This is simply because the 90nm GPU, which is the troublesome part in the current Xboxes, will be phased out in favor of the 65nm GPUs. This new GPU will be called Jasper and has been subcontracted to TSMC and Nanya PCB corp. This move comes reportedly on the basis that Microsoft has already exhausted its current supply of 90nm GPUs, paving the way for the company to reduce its costs and improve performance, by using smaller chips based on the 65nm process. This is however not the final move in the GPU/CPU integration program. A year after the release of the ?Jasper? GPUs, Microsoft will move to integrate the GPU/CPU into a single package and this marks the future of the Xbox 360 hardware architecture. Please check out this link for further details.

Many users find XP SP3 upgrade not so smooth
2008-05-09 19:15:00
When the third service pack for Windows XP went gold, News.com reported that the upgrade process would be a "quick, painless" affair for most users. Not always so, according to InfoWorld, which says SP3 drew "hundreds of complaints" from users within mere hours of its release on Windows Update earlier this week.Indeed, a quick look at Microsoft's official Windows XP message group shows a considerable number of threads about numerous problems with SP3. Users claim the update has caused their computer to crash, fail to recognize external drives, enter reboot loops, or stop booting altogether. InfoWorld quotes one user who calls himself "Doug W." as saying, "After three attempts [to install XP SP3] with different configurations each time, System Restore was the only way to get me out of deep s**t."InfoWorld blames conflicts with already-installed software and drivers for these snags. However, considering Microsoft seems to be pushing SP3 through both Windows Update and Automatic Updat...

New iPhone SDK Launched, 3G iPhone Pics Leaked
2008-05-08 08:13:00
The iPhone with 3G capabilities is slowly but surely becoming a reality as more and more sites seem to be finding leaked images of the handset. With all the hullabaloo of Vodafone bringing the iPhone to India, things could be looking up for Apple fans. It seems like it would probably have a more glossy finish and it also seems like the Dock/Speaker connectors might also be altered slightly.Apart from that the next-gen iPhone could also be sleeker. Not that it isn?t already, but there?s always room for improvement. The 3G version aside, Apple has launched the Beta 5 version of the iPhone SDK. This newer version will supposedly make things a lot easier for developers by making the existing tools a lot better and it should also be able to fix a few more bugs. The new SDK includes a set of tools like Xcode IDE and Instruments analysis tools as well as compilers, frameworks, and documentation for creating iPhone OS applications. It also has a test simulator to test the created application...

Motorola and Kodak Handset Seems to be Real
2008-05-07 13:52:00
I mentioned a while back that Motorola and Kodak were planning on launching a 5 megapixel camera phone sometime soon and although it?s not yet completely official a few images of the device have been leaked and according to the grapevine the handset is going to be called the ZN5.Apart from the obvious camera of 5 megapixels (auto-focus natch) it would also have a Xenon flash and a secondary LED for video. This cameraphone would also be able to capture images in RAW format, which is not something to sneeze at. The ZN5 is also said to be quite a slim handset at about 11.8mm thick and will come equipped with a 3.5mm earphone socket, TV out and USB (hopefully not proprietary in any way) slot. It will run on a Linux based OS probably like the MING and should also have a keypad similar to the ROKR E8 which changes according to the features. There's still no pricing or official release date for the handset, so stay tuned.
