Opera Web Browser Does anyone really ever use this browser? Well I used to… it IS amazing… it IS fast… it is THE most secure browser out there… but somehow… i still prefer using FireFox… why? Becuase it is modular… and it lets me modify it and personalize it any way I want… simple! Yes I could go on an in-depth comparison of the main browsers… which is faster… etc… etc.. etc… but honestly… who cares??? I mean come on!! Who cares if a page lasts 1 second longer to redraw than on another browser? If the browser lets you browse the way YOU want… then that is the reason you’ll use it… ..period

It’s 15 light years away from our planet… It orbits a ’sun-like’ star called Gliese 876… Is this the next destination for humans? … or is it already a destination for those we don’t yet know about? Well in reality I am not too sure of that. Size-wise, this planet is 7½ times the size of earth as we know it, with temperatures ranging from 400 to 750 degrees… thus making it uninhabitable for us… but one can never tell what evolutional tricks could have occured there… we know of mammals and fish which live in climates thought unbreable for us… so who knows? Yet… Astronomers believe this discovery is a step in the right direction and we’re getting closer to finding a planet that might support life … …we’ll wait and see!

Bitorrent is arguably the best peer-to-peer download utility that has ever hit the computer desktop industry… it is fast… so fast that, unless you throttle it on a generic ADSL connection, you won’t even be able to download a standard website, chat or send emails, simple because it will hog your entire bandwidth in a matter of minutes (well at least for my connection it does hehe) …unfortunately (or some might argue.. fortunately) this also makes it the ideal download protocol for priated music, movies, tv-series, software and porn… Therefore wouldn’t it be strange if Microsoft decided to inject some of it’s own code into the torrent idea to make it more efficient? (if such were possible?) Yet believe it or not… they have! Appropriately code-named Avalanche, Microsoft’s attempt at becoming a content distributor adheres to Bitorrent’s idea of piecing up together multiple files which it would download from a multitude of sour...

It seems the poor guys were trapped for several hours, up to 3kn inwards from the entrance of Brooks Run mine. Unfortunately, it was sad to discover that such an amazing photo is in fact nothing other than a test launch of a missile called the LGM-118A Peacekeeper Missile.  To be precise, it is a so-called Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, capable of travelling in excess of 5,000km, a very well suited for the delivery of nuclear warheads [presumably not to friends] Now why would they call such a savage beast of a missile a ‘Peacekeeper’? 25 years old! Would you believe it? At times I still find these things hard to believe… basically the IBM-PC is just about my age now, and when I look at the advancements in the industry, I almost shy away… then again I didn’t have a couple of million individuals solely focused on advancing me :) …and to think that this poor baby is going to die so soon! Face it, the more time goes by, the more the desktop is losing popularity… instead, people are going for handheld solutions or notebooks. I personally have just transitioned to the ‘I-will-only-have-a-notebook-for-a- personal-PC’ phase… and since I have a particular love for large and wide screens [my notebook is 17″ wide-screen]… and am also a pretty power hungry user, I doubt I will ever go for anything smaller than a notebook, thinner maybe… not unless the display as we know it become obsolete, and some funky new visual interface is invented. …especially sin...

When I was a kid, my computer often featured some form of pornographic content that sporadically appeared as a result of Spy-ware.  On many occasions, I used to try and explain to my mother that they were not of my doing and that I had no idea how they ended up there!!  I took some 6 years until my mother became an active Internet user, and nowadays we just look back and laugh at the event, especially since she is suffering from these nuisances herself and nowadays asks me to come and ‘clean’ her PC! Unfortunately for a teacher in Norwich, such spyware found itself on a classroom PC, and displayed pornographic popups during a kids’ classroom session. The verdict has been ‘jail’ for the teacher, even though the school admitted that their Internet filtration software license was expired and was therefore not blocking malicious code any longer.  In addition to that, it is also evident that the school’s I.T. department is still not aware of the existe...

I guess it was inevitable that I post this here eventually! So many people have been asking me as to what my opinion is about the whole Saddam hanging and all, that I just want to lay it down here as lucidly as is possible. I am neither for nor against the fact that Saddam was hung, that was not my decision to make, he did not affect my family directly, I do not have an Iraq culture, and therefore I am not equipped to reason about such a thing… what I DO know is that according to the ethics granted to me to date, I would have been against it… but I am not, since he is not Maltese… so there. Secondly, as far as the videos are concerned… personally I find nothing wrong in recording a piece of history on video, I actually find it important and would have personally preferred a much higher quality recording… …and as for showing such video on Iraq TV, etc… etc… again, that is a cultural decision I am not qualified to judge. Italian scientists have made a reconstruction of the face of the poet Dante some 700 years after he died and have found some surprises, particularly about the supposed shape of his famous aquiline nose. “It was a surprise for me too,” said Professor Giorgio Gruppioni, an anthropologist at the University of Bologna’s campus in Ravenna, the Adriatic city where Dante is buried. Gruppioni told Reuters in a telephone interview that the multi-disciplinary project discovered that Dante probably did have a hooked nose but it was pudgy rather than pointy and crooked rather than straight, almost as if he had been punched. “We all had our ideas of what Dante looked like. Apple either didn’t think this through properly, or else, they are so used to being sued that they are actually using it as some sort of viral marketing. Now, not only does Apple have to worry about the Cisco suit, but Nortel is also suing them for using the term ‘Visual Voicemail’ …think about it though. I am no market guru, but say Apple looses both suits, maybe at $5m each… wouldn’t you think that with this exaggerated amount of marketing being produced, that they would eventually make so much money out of it, that a mere $10m will seem silly. Makes sense to me! And seriously, I have set up news watches for most ‘hot’ topics right now, and the iPhone tops them all! (so do the number of blogs here since the expo!)
