Google Making Street View Anonymous

In the face of ethical concerns, Google is considering changes to its Street View Google Maps feature that would protect the privacy of those it photographs. When Street View is rolled out in Europe, Google will alter Street View photos to make sure that faces and license plate numbers are no longer visible, and the company is also thinking about doing the same with the U.S. version of the product, said Jane Horvath, senior privacy counsel with Google. Developed by Immersive Media, Street View lets users click on a city street and then see a panoramic photograph of the area. The pictures are taken by special 360-degree cameras roof-mounted on Volkswagen Beetles that cruise around town, constantly snapping photographs. PS3 Beats Wii Sales in Japan

Sony’s PlayStation 3 outsold Nintendo’s Wii for the first time in Japan during the month of November, game magazine publisher Enterbrain said on Friday. In the four weeks leading up to Nov. 25, Sony sold 183,217 PS3 systems in Japan. By comparison, Nintendo sold 159,193 Wii consoles. In previous months, the Wii has outsold the PS3 upwards of 6 to 1. The news marks a first for Sony on its home turf also given rise to the prospect that Sony may return to it former dominance over the last 11 years. One analyst remained skeptical, however, saying one month is hardly enough to forecast a turnaround. “Overseas, I don’t really see the PS3 doing that much at Christmas time primarily because it’s still more expensive than the other machines and has less software,” said Hiroshi Kamide. “It’s nice to see the system selling much better than six months ago. NVIDIA to Launch GeForce 9 Series in February

NVIDIA is ready for its next-generation GPU launch. According to sources at graphics card makers, the company plans to launch its GeForce 9 series GPU in February 2008. The first chip to roll out in the GeForce 9 family will be the D9E, a high-end product that adopts 65nm manufacturing. The new product will also support DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1. In addition to the D9E, NVIDIA will release a mid-range GeForce 9 family 55nm GPU named D9P in June 2008.
