Why I Won't Stop Blogging
2008-01-27 15:48:00 The following is a real conversation I had last week with Jason Davis. It is not a reenactment by paid actors:JD: How many hires have you made at WorldLink that are directly related to WirelessJobs.com?Me: I joined WorldLink in November, and have made two hires from resumes that came to me directly from WirelessJobs.com.JD: Are you kidding?Me: No.JD: Geez, that's excellent! You need to blog about that!Me: Yeah, I know...I've been so busy I haven't been able to dedicate much time to the blog.JD: Wow. Do you get resumes every day from the site?Me: Oh yeah. In fact, so many, that lately it's been difficult to connect with all of them as quickly as usual. But I'm not complaining. My primary goal, when I started blogging, was to use the blog as a tool to connect with the people that are important to me - people that are interested in the wireless industry (whether involved in active job search or not).JD: So, it's working, eh?Me: Absolutely. Hey, I'm not pretending... More About: Blogging , Stop

Nokia's Sales Soar
2008-01-27 14:58:00 Jack Ewing, BusinessWeek "Nokia extended its already formidable dominance of the global handset business on Jan. 24, announcing it had achieved 40% market share in the fourth quarter of 2007. But perhaps the biggest surprise was that the Finnish company achieved this long-promised and psychologically important milestone while also becoming more profitable." "Thanks to soaring sales in emerging markets, as well as growth in high-end phones, Nokia boosted profit in the fourth quarter of 2007 by 44%, to $2.68 billion, on sales of $23 billion. At the same time, average selling prices grew, and the operating margin on mobile phones rose to 25%, vs. 17.8% a year earlier."Ewing notes that, the strong performance pushed Nokia's shares up 12.5% to $36.48. Although gloom 'n doom seems to be dominating many water-cooler conversations, the mobile-phone industry seems unfazed because consumers continue regarding phones"as necessities and scrimp elsewhere if they have to buy new handsets."T... Married to Wireless
2007-03-15 13:32:00 A new study by the EIAA reports that 37% of European wireless users regularly visit social networking sites - no shocker there. In fact I expected that number to be higher. The study also gives us a clear picture of how this wireless addiction impacts our workstyle:83% of this user group regularly use news websites (ditto for me)79% use banking and finance sites (yep, me too)70% use technology sites (si')39% visit recruitment sites or look into jobs online (the horror...)The research highlights that their total weekly internet use reaches 17 hours or 10% of their week.Wow, when you look at it that way it gives you a whole different perspective. They are wed to wireless for 10% of their week, and you've got to consider that a large percentge of their hours during that same week are spent in sleep!Yikes ... wonder where my % would land? So, what are you doing with wireless?source: cellular-news.com More About: Wireless , Wire , Less , Arri , Married
