Pill With Camera To Spot Cancer
2008-01-29 17:33:00 A pill-sized camera which would travel through the gut looking for signs of disease is being developed by scientists.Doctors could eventually use the tiny capsule - just 15mm long - to diagnose cancer. It will contain a micro-chip which functions as a camera, producing pictures which would either be beamed directly to a computer or be collected after the capsule has passed through the body. Doctors would then be able to identify disease in patients. The capsule, which builds on technology developed by NASA to measure temperature inside astronauts' bodies, would take the place of endoscopes traditionally used by doctors to see inside patients. It is hoped the tiny camera will be able to pick up the presence of chemicals, called metabolites, which indicate a particular disease is present. Scientist Created Darkest Material Ever
2008-01-19 14:08:00 Researchers at a US laboratory claim to have created the darkest material ever; a carbon nanotube which is one atom thick and rolled into a cylinder. For an object to be completely black, it must absorb all the colors of light over every angle and wavelength while reflecting none back, and scientists at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, may have just gotten one step closer. The team built an array of vertically aligned, low-density nanotubes -- rough on the surface to minimize reflections -- and then measured the optical properties. They discovered that the objects very good at absorbing light, while downright rotten at reflecting it, thus creating a new standard for "blackness." In practice, their nanotubes could form a super-black object, leading to the creation of more efficient solar panels or solar cells, or more importantly, a Kuro display that goes beyond absolute black. "They've made the blackest material known to science," Says Professor Sir John Pendry, ... More About: Scientist , Material

Super-Vision via Contact Lenses
2008-01-19 13:43:00 Engineers at the University of Washington have managed to create a flexible, biologically safe contact lens with an imprinted electronic circuit and lights: There are many possible uses for virtual displays. Drivers or pilots could see a vehicle?s speed projected onto the windshield. Video-game companies could use the contact lenses to completely immerse players in a virtual world without restricting their range of motion. And for communications, people on the go could surf the Internet on a midair virtual display screen that only they would be able to see. And, the engineers note, people may find many other applications they haven?t even thought of yet. (Via EurekAlert.) So far only rabbits have worn the prototype, with no ill effects after up to twenty minutes. The engineers plan to add wireless communication to and from the lens, along with built-on solar cells and the capability to use radio-frequency power. The prototype doesn?t light up, but a version with a basic display sho... More About: Contact , Lenses , Super , Contact Lenses , Vision
Matrix M6001Watch
2008-01-19 13:27:00 The Matrix M6001 features an LCD screen where the time is displayed as bars. If you take a gander at the pictures, you?ll see that the bigger bars at the top indicate the hour while the smaller bars at the bottom, indicate the minutes in intervals of five. The bottom-left part of the screen is occupied by another bar broken into four, signifying each individual minute. Simple, right? The direct-to-the-point approach is appreciated, although in my opinion, the watch lacks a bit of zing. It?s currently on sale in Funshop.kr for approximately £38, although you might have to call on a Korean friend to help you navigate the page. More About: Trix
Bill Gates Says About Future
2008-01-08 18:01:00 The way people interact with computers is going to dramatically change in the next five years, Microsoft chief Bill Gates has told BBC News. He predicted that the keyboard and mouse would gradually give way to more intuitive and natural technologies. In particular, he said, touch, vision and speech interfaces would become increasingly important. Mr Gates made his comments whilst answering questions from BBC News website readers. ?This whole idea of what I call natural user interface is really redefining the experience,? he said. ?We?re adding the ability to touch and directly manipulate, we?re adding vision so the computer can see what you?re doing, we?re adding the pen, we?re adding speech,? he told BBC News. During the interview Mr Gates showed off the Microsoft Surface computer, a large table like machine with a multi-touch interface. ?I?ll be brave, in five years we?ll have many tens of million of people sitting browsing their photos, browsing their music, organising their lives... Invisible Screen
2008-01-08 17:43:00 There's a lot of fancy televisions here at CES, but a company called ad notam caught my eye with a spectacular line of TV's called Mirror Image. These gorgeous LCD screens are built into a flat glass surface, so they disappear seamlessly into a wall or appliance. It's very futuristic looking -- imagine being able to press a button and have a high-definition TV appear out of nowhere in your wall, or even in the vanity in your bathroom. The displays are stunning, and when they're turned off, there's no way of telling that a TV is there -- it just looks like a shiny glass wall, or a mirror. I think they appeal to me so much because they look like the TVs in a million different science fiction movies, screens that are not so much a separate appliance, but just part of a "media wall." iRing To Control Apple Devices
2007-12-28 13:57:00 Take a look at this iRing design concept by Victor Soto used to control any Apple media device including iPods and the iPhone. The ring charges in its own custom-sized cradle and has a small OLED display inside the small Apple logo that indicates it?s current status of play or pause, which can then be toggled by touch. Sliding a finger across the ring one way or the other will adjust the volume and the ring can be locked by squeezing your finger to avoid inadvertent touches. The ring can be used play, pause, move tracks back and forward and control the volume of an iPod or iPhone wirelessly. More About: Devices , Control

The system can also apparently "explain" pictures, though it's unclear whether or not it uses image recognition or some type of embedded data. The device includes a USB port, audio out, the aforementioned stylus, 512MB of memory, and an SD card slot. The laptop-sized unit is aimed at educational applications for children 4 through 16, and will be available sometime in early 2008.Source: The Raw Feed More About: Reader , Book , E-book , Talking , E Book

ChargePod Charges 6 Gadgets At Once
2007-12-25 05:59:00 Callpod has a new device called the Chargepod which is a 6-way charging contraption that is able to connect to and charge many of your electronic gadgets at once without having multiple cords running from your power strip for each item. The Chargepod has many interchangeable power adapters for different devices that are manufacturer-specific complete with ?voltage regulator technology? to make sure the device is getting the right amount of juice. The design is pretty sharp, and each connection has a cool blue indicator light showing that power is heading to the device and it is indeed being charged. Once you get all six of your devices connected in practical use we can?t imagine it?s going to look as clean and organized as the photo implies, but it will certainly be better than needing a power outlet and cord for each item. Just be sure to unplug the charger when your done.Product Page via Gizmodo More About: Gadgets

Two Users Can Work On Same Computer At The Same Time
2007-12-24 15:07:00 Do you have a spare computer monitor lying unused in some corner of the house? You can easily convert that monitor into a proper PC by just attaching it to one of your existing computers - no additional hardware required. And do not confuse this setup with Microsoft SplitScreen Technology or dual-screens - here two monitors are connected to the same CPU but they are two separate computers. Two users can simultaneously perform different tasks on each of the monitor using their own keyboard and mouse. This is possible through a free software called Userful which is essentially a Linux Live CD. You connect the two monitors to one computer, pop the CD inside and boot. Now two users can surf different websites, access their personal emails, write documents and more at the same time on their personal screens. They?ll also have access to common devices like the printer and scanner attached to the main computer. This solution may appeal when you have basic computing requirements or have n... Future Tech: Color Swapping Paramagnetic Paint
2007-12-23 06:44:00 Having a hard time deciding whether to get your new dream ride in red or silver? Paramagnetic paint says you don?t have to choose, not permanently at any rate. In a never-ending pursuit to make our lives richer and more rewarding through technology, scientists have developed a new kind of paint that will give an owner the ability to change the hue of their most prized ride with the simple press of a button. The paramagnetic paint is actually a polymer coating containing iron oxide particles that is applied to the body of the car. An electric current is directed through the polymer that makes it possible to control the spacing of small crystals within the iron oxide particles. As the spacing of the crystals is altered, the way they reflect light is also changed, and this change has the ability modifies the color that is seen on the vehicle. Because the paint requires a constant current to do its business, the switched off vehicle will automatically return to the base white color. T... More About: Color , Future , Tech , Paint , Magnetic
