2008-04-18 18:53:00
This mornings quake is a grim reminder that we do live in a seismic zone, and we are all aware of tornado activity and weather events in this part of the world. Read more at http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recen teqsus/As a member of the National Preparedness Coalition for 3 of the 5 years of its existence, I just wanted to throw out a friendly reminder to my friends that being prepared for disasters of this nature only takes a few minutes and it can save lives.I urge you to take a moment to visit www.ready.gov and review materials under the Ready America banner. Get a Kit. Build a Plan. Ubiquity
2007-05-22 18:33:00
I chose this word for the title of this entry in order to set the tone for the future of business communications in general. With the invention of SIP technology the future for traditional telephony providers, as it pertains to their "proprietary" hardware, is looking down the barrel of gun. As industry analysts and manufacturers have been predicting for some time now its all about the "Applications Baby!" The competitive advantage even in today's world is all about the software and how the applications using this software drives our competitive advantages in business. From there its about open standards versus proprietary philosophy, and how tightly a solution will integrate with existing business practices and infrastructure. The beauty of this for customers is that the commodity portion of tradition telephony hardware will continue to become more and more ubiquitous in nature, driving pricing of endpoints and servers lower and lower. This will be offset however for higher ...

How Can Weather Affect your Business?
2007-02-16 23:14:00
Here is some recent data taken from the Springfield, Missouri Business Journal Polling Center. After recent ice storms in this territory, and after numerous storm damage since last July through out Missouri, its no longer fiscally feasible or responsible to take advice from REO Speedwagon Lyrics by Riding the Storm Out. Especially if you are without a strategy to mitigate these very types of risks or without the will to implement that strategy. And if you are thinking you cant afford to mitigate these types of risks, think about the repeated impact of several of these events per year, or God forbid a single more increasingly severe event like an earthquake, terrorist attack, or spreading pandemic and calculate your potentials losses of doing nothing against the cost of protecting your business today.

In talking with and supporting businesses all across the United States, one common theme comes into play regardless of which coast or area they work in: Protecting streams of revenue and profits are the number one priority. Setting aside such factors as regional and global competition there are other threats to our businesses, that are not related to business at all. These are unforeseen events that do not schedule time with us before hand, that can not be fore casted on any market research paper, and that none of us have any control over. No matter where you live and work, we are all vulnerable. Disasters, Weather Events, Terriorism, and Pandemics. Each presents its own unique challenges and risks. Again, all of these events are beyond our control, however, we can help mitigate some of the impact that events like this can have our businesses, our economy, and our lives as Americans in general. And frankly there are many areas for business executives to consider when building a prop...

A Letter from Michael Chertoff
2007-01-19 21:36:00
In case you were not aware, September is designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as National Preparedness Month. Now we should, as good citizens and responsible corporate entities, be preparing for the worst and expecting the best the other 11 months of the year as well, but.... its especially discussed in September. This preparedness methodology is one that belongs to all of us from protecting our family first, then business and the critical infrastructure responsible for our way of life; and the services like first response to any calamities that might arise. I provide consultation and solutions that help businesses mitigate risks and prepare for the unthinkable to help not only survive a calamity like earth quakes, tornadoes, acts of terrorism, pandemics, etc. But also to help them reconstitute as quickly and efficiently as possible. In doing so it helps protect our economy, our workforce and in turn our families. I just wanted to post this letter recognizing my ef...

A Sneeze Away from a Complete Business Collapse?
2006-07-27 22:28:00
Can a single sneeze truly mean life or death for your business? The answer is absolutely without question! Perhaps you have considered or even implemented policies and plans for terrorist attacks or natural disasters with relation to your business’s Continuity of Operations (COOP) in this post 9/11 landscape. Or perhaps you have been dragging your feet gambling that your little town in Middle America is impervious to such things. And maybe you don’t live on a fault line, or in tornado alley, or near dry forests that catch fire in a lightning storm. And perhaps terrorist do not have it “in” for your general store down the street. But there is an enemy with a broader paintbrush that can have a much deeper impact than those “localized” threats pose regardless of geography, gender, culture, race, or any other classification.Your government has been talking about it and even provided a detailed road map to protect your business to from falling prey to it or at least to minimal...

Managing to Save Money
2006-06-22 23:40:00
Most of us in the business world surround ourselves with ways of squeezing more profit from our revenue streams in order to make our stakeholders happy. That is one of the “duh” statements I know. However you would be surprised at the number of organizations that completely overlook the fact that the way they communicate and share information is a key vacuum point that kills their bottom line. Whether their budgets are bloated due to unnecessary long distance charges, under used telecom services, over loaded costs for staff, or the cost to maintain their legacy technology they are leaving a ton of profit on the table. Imagine the ability to communicate in the ways your customers prefer, the ability to manage your business technology with less staff resources, access to all of your critical business tool regardless of where you are, and all with a Return on Investment schedule of under year. Very possible if you do it right, regardless of the size of your organization. Its takes ...

Primordial or Proactive?
2006-05-28 06:21:00
The one thing in life we can truly count on is that things change. Change is inevitable. We position ourselves to evolve or to become extinct. It is a choice and you would be surprised at the number of organizations that choose the latter. The evolution of an enterprise’s vision, strategic goals, and business practices are imperative to its survival. In direct relation to its ability to evolve, it must remain agile, competitive, and distinctive in an increasingly competitive global economy. Successful enterprises in today’s world do not possess a magic wand that has allowed them to survive or thrive. They just understand that complex puzzle that brings all of the aspects of a successful enterprise into harmony. A strategy complete with effective branding and marketing, an outstanding product or service, and the ability to easily manage its staff and process are just the tip of the iceberg. But a great place to start.I have established this site to address and provide information...
