Truth in Bill Gates' Last CES Keynote
2008-01-08 00:00:00 Click here to watch the keynote. (http://www.microsoft.com/winme/0801/3178 1/CES_010608_31781.asx) Bill Gates seemed really jovial and positively energetic when he delivered his CES keynote, much livelier than Microsoft's president, Bach. What's more important, though, is his description of the second digital decade that we're in and his visions for future development of technology. We're now in our third year of the second digital decade premiering in 2005, and a lot of things have changed. Many things considered 'exclusive' in the previous decade (1995-2005) are now viewed as 'common'. In his keynote, Gates gave us just the right insight into the future advancement of technology. The Age of High-Definition HD this, HD that, HD everywhere. From the smallest camera unit to the largest HD display, consumers are opting for high-definition as the years roll by. When HDTV was first introduced, most of us who are from the middle class background could only dream of acquiring on... More About: Truth , Keynote
2008 International Consumer Electronics Showcase
2008-01-08 00:00:00 The 2008 International Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) kicked off today in Las Vegas, exposing visitors flocking to the exhibition halls from around the world with exciting new gadgets. If I was depressed last month because I missed the PC Fair, I'm even more depressed now because my friends who are studying in the US now get to attend this event. Receiving long-distance phone calls from them more than once a day did nothing to lift my mood. That aside, check out the coverage below, courtesy of the official CES website. Open Letter to A Certain Mr. Joshua Lim of Advertlets
2008-01-08 00:00:00 Dear Mr. Joshua Lim of Advertlets, I did not write this to defame you and your associates, and I certainly did not write this on behalf of anyone. This is just something I thought I should express regardless of you finding out about this or not. I cannot begin to explain properly how stupid you've made me feel for signing up for an account over at the now-almost-completely-deceased Advertlets. The site seemed very promising, and I noticed many local and neighbouring bloggers with ads served by Advertlets on their blogs. I tried it out, and was amazed at how steadily my earning adds up with time. I put my trust in you, believing that our local online advertising industry is gradually looking up. But I was wrong, was I not? I should have done more research on your credibility, and not to mention your stability and consistency too. I should have noticed when I did a round check on my site that your Advertlets script was ruinining my overall page scripting. Instead, I decided to tr... Nufflets Is Not Loading?
2008-01-08 00:00:00 My Nufflets ads has not been loading since last night, which I noticed right after posting my previous blog entry. I thought there was some minor downtime or something, so I ignored it. But then when I tried to access Nufflets.com, the page would not load. I tried visiting some other sites using Nufflets that I know, and the ads did not show as well. Until a few minutes ago, the problem persists. Is it only my computer, or are there others experiencing the same thing? More About: Loading
Advertlets.com Expired + Code Script Error
2008-01-07 00:00:00 EDIT: I found the root of the problem. Okay, great. www.advertlets.com expired on January 03, 2008. I wonder why they didn't renew it BEFORE it expires! They are so going to get into a big trouble with their advertisers, and not to mention bloggers. And for advertising network, I find it funny that search terms like 'Kylie Minogue Underwear' get plastered all around the site. Shame! New 'Wikia Search' by Wikipedia
2008-01-07 00:00:00 Although Wikipedia 's influence seems to expand beyond the unseen horizon, they don't seem to be making much money, according to founder Jimmy Wales. But that does not discourage him, for his brilliant mind sees another opportunity to further strengthens Wikipedia's territory. Thus 7th January 2008 will witness the day Wikipedia launches it's very own search engine, Wikia Search . The new search engine will launch with only around 50 to 100 million indexed pages, which will grow in number with time. Wales' goal is to get his network of volunteers to decide how search engine results should be ranked instead of letting the computer algorithms do the whole process on auto. It's not hard to detect the sarcasm directed towards Google Inc there. In short, what Wales aims to do is to provide a search engine where no one should be able to manipulate the rank - like Google but without loopholes for rank exploitation. But we know how evil Google can be when it com... More About: Wikia Search

Nokia Delayed Launch Date of "Ovi" - Again!
2008-01-03 00:00:00 In August 2007, Nokia proudly announced Ovi as their new brand of mobile internet services. The company claimed that the service would be available worldwide in November. However, due to a few problems with partners, it was delayed into December. Now even December is saying goodbye to us, and Nokia has once again pushed back the launch date of their gaming service for N-gage. Delays in software testing is claimed to be the cause. Well, there's your first impression of how serious they take Ovi for. Users will have to wait until next year to try out their mobile music shop and mapping service that comes bundled with Ovi. This time, Nokia claims to truly open the service in early 2008. The question now is, how early is early? I'd say latest by mid January, but who knows if their classification of 'early 2008' extends further than the first month, or even the second or third month? So now they're scared of naming a date. Good move, Nokia. You guys should use this no-exact-date... More About: Launch
2007 Favourites
2008-01-03 00:00:00 So, 2007 has come and gone. In a few hours, we will all venture into a new year - hopefully a year where peace and unity embrace our nation still. Before advancing into the dawn of a new day, I'd like to just make a list of my favourites of 2007. Domain Registrars 1. MyDomain (http://www.mydomain.com) Initially, their registration started at $6.99, but now it's $8.95. ICANN accredited, and excellent customer support. Been with them for three years and no problem at all. 2. Namecheap (http://www.namecheap.com) My very first domain registry from way back in 2002! They started out with $8.88, but now it's $9.29. Their user control panel is excellent. Great support too. 3. Netfirms (http://www.netfirms.com) First year for $5.95, and the next for $9.95 per year. Nice domain registrar, although hosting service is not recommended (by me, at least). No need to request for your domain AUTH code if you ever want to switch registrar. It's in the control panel. Web Hosts 1. Host Gator... More About: Favourites
Anticipating Malaysian Virtual Scenario in 2008
2008-01-03 00:00:00 So we're almost a day into the new year. The excitement of a new year celebration has died out in some places, while it remains strong still in some others. While it's nice to know that we've made it through another year, I couldn't help but think back at some of the events that happened in the past year, and how it could possibly improve or worsen the Malays ian 'virtual culture'. Blogging Trend ... will become a more solid trend. Bloggers should still remember the buzz created by certain parties about cyber law and all. Malaysian bloggers were stereotyped as 'liars' and 'people who spread lies and causes distress around the nation', or so one particular ignorant human being claimed in an interview. We were labeled as being 'not up to standards' when there isn't any to be defined by in the first place. And then there's another buzz, even more ridiculous than the one above. In accordance to the future enforcement of a stricter cyber law, some people suggested getting... More About: Virtual , Scenario , 2008
Motorola's New CPEi 100 WiMAX Desktop Device
2008-01-03 00:00:00 Motorola announced the arrival of CPEi 100 WiMAX desktop device earlier today as a new edition to the WiMax CPE (customer premises equipment). It's a single data port comprised of 2.5GHz plug-and-play wireless solution that delivers reliable wireless broadband (Internet) connectivity. You can put it on your work table and let it do its work as an interface between your computer and your WiMAX network. It looks stylish enough to those who care about what your gadget looks like. This device will be on display at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on 7-10 January next week. Motorola's Fred Wright claimed CPEi 100 as 'a home device that consumers can install and setup in only a matter of minutes', which I believe is true. And with 2.5GHz, you're sure to fly with your connection. Just be sure to have a Motorola phone with you, as it would be a lot more convenient. - Original News @ Motorola - More About: Desktop , Wimax , Device

Watching TV On Mobile Phones?
2007-12-28 00:00:00 Media Prima's Paul Moss delightfully announced that mobile phone users can now enjoy TV3, 8TV, ntv7 and TV9 on their 3G-enabled mobile phone wherever and whenever they want. Users can also watch their favourite HotFM deejays on their radio channel - yep, watch and listen, not listen only. For the time being, this 'privilege' is available for Maxis 3G users only. They have yet to announce collaboration with other mobile service providers. While I know full well that mobile TV is not new, I still find the idea of watching TV on the small mobile phone display ridiculous. While we're in the era where mobile phones reign our lives, we're also in the era where all displays are increased in size. TVs with 40+ displays are being developed at such a rapid pace that the global world constantly worry about the power-consuming device. People want to watch their favourite channels on large, cinema-like screens. Not on a mere 2+ mobile display. For a person who uses ... More About: Mobile , Mobile Phones , Phones , Watching
Make Money With Online Surveys Via Telekom Malaysia Business Programme
2007-12-27 00:00:00 Taking and conducting surveys online is one of the most popular trend of making money on the net, but Malaysia ns miss out a lot since most of the surveys are not conducted on an international scale. It's quite disheartening, really, when other people get a lot but but we only get a few, and that's after waiting for quite a long time too. Why not try our local company for once? Pacific Alliance Business Programme is under Telekom Malaysia Business Programme which takes care of the online survey business in Malaysia. You can choose to become a survey respondent or project consultant. Upon survey completion for survey respondents, you will be eligible to claim your gift of either a Nokia or SonyEricsson handphone OR a free subscription to Online Satellite TV with 1500 channels from 80 countries. If you register as one of their project consultant, you will have to pay a small fee to get started. It comes in 2 steps too - basic trial membership and members... More About: Money , Make Money

Anti-social Networking With Enemybook, Snubster & Hatebook
2007-12-25 00:00:00 While social networking sites are getting insanely popular these days, there are also networking sites created with a completely different purpose - to keep in touch with people you consider 'enemies'. Okay, they are all actually created just for fun. The creators of these anti-social networking started the sites out to poke fun at their long-time friends, and also to mock (kind of) people who friended them on social networking sites without bothering to get to know them. Additionally, these sites also exist to enable you to share your dislikes with everyone. Enemybook is a fancy Facebook application that allows you to add things you dislike, real life people you hate and fictitious characters you abhor in your enemy list. No one at Facebook is available for comment about this, though. Currently, Enemybook has more than 9,000 users and counting. Hatebook This little stick guy here is the mascot of Hatebook where you can write about what you hate... More About: Social , Social Networking , Networking , Anti , Anti-social
Monsoon Woes & New Downloads
2007-12-24 00:00:00 The rain has been rather depressing. I'm currently really grateful that my area seems to be safe from the threat of flood even though I live in Pasir Mas, Kelantan - very near to Rantau Panjang where the dam holding the current of Golok River unexpectedly broke and caused a big flood in the neighbouring area. I do have some relatives there; I wonder how they're faring. A few hours prior to writing this, more than 10,000 occupants have been forced to leave the comfort of their residences (though not really a comfort anymore with the water and all...). I was not expecting such a large number. The weather has been good since the last 30 hours. The sun shone quite brightly too throughout the day - you can say that the sun's been glaring down at the pools of water around my area for the whole day. The roads were dry (up until 6pm, the time I came back from some grocery shopping with my Mama) and the rain completely stopped. I thought it was the sign that things are finally... And So Blogs Won Against Official News Sources
More articles from this author:2007-12-24 00:00:00 The bet that lasted for 5 long years is finally laid to rest. Back in 2002, Winer of w3.com made made a bet to Nisenholtz of New York Times that the majority of the mass would first turn to alternative media such as blogs for information they want before leafing through official news source written by professionals - in five years time. I had completely forgotten about this bet. When I was in 15 (I started blogging in 2000), my fellow bloggers (I wasn't sure what we called ourselves back then) and I were really amused when we first got wind of this bet. Some even doubt both betting parties would still be around when the 'five years' betting period actually comes to an end. Nevertheless, we voted for Winer, because I couldn't stop smiling when I read what Winer wrote: My bet with Martin Nisenholtz at the Times says that the tide has turned, and in five years, the publishing world will have changed so thoroughly that informed people will look to amateurs they trust ...
