Litesum: Wikipedia Meets Ajax
2007-01-31 04:00:06
I just launched a quick PHP script I wrote this past week to refresh my JavaScript knowledge. Lite sum uses Ajax and PHP to instantly extract a summary for any given query from the Wiki pedia article on that topic. (more…)

2007-01-29 15:58:02
Pearl Crescent’s Page Saver Basic is a convenient Firefox extension that saves a screenshot of the entire web page, instead of just the visible portion. It’s especially handy for blog posts with a long list of comments.

Mint 2.0 Released
2007-01-29 15:58:02
The incredibly popular Mint stats app was given a huge upgrade today. Mint 2.0 is now available for the same price as it has been — $30 (or $19 to upgrade from Mint 1.x). I’ll be upgrading later today when I can put a quick review and some screenshots up. In the meantime, Designologue.com has a live demo of the new version.

Digg Meets Grid-Server
2007-01-29 15:58:02
I used up my 15 minutes of Digg fame today when my article on OS X freeware reached the homepage. Aside from the exciting traffic spike (over 30,000 uniques today), I was more excited to see how Media Temple’s Grid -Serve r hosting would hold up under the pressure. (more…)
Technorati Trouble
2007-01-28 03:56:04
I’ve been trying to claim the new blog URL in Tech no rati’s system for a few weeks now and every time I get “There was a problem claiming your blog. Please try again in a few minutes” thrown back at me. Technorati ’s support has been oddly silent. Am I the only one?

OS X: Command+Tab Between Individual Windows
2007-01-28 03:56:04
One of the things I’ve missed since my switch from Wind ows was the ability to Command+Tab (or Alt+Tab in Windows) between individual windows instead of applications. (Switching between two windows of Safari and Mail, for example, instead of just Safari as a group and Mail.) (more…)

Google Image Search Revamp
2007-01-28 03:56:04
Google recently “dumbed down” the popular Google Image Search . It’s an obvious optimization for the average user, but the new UI is surely an annoyance for the average techie. (more…)

iPhone = LG KE850?
2007-01-28 03:56:04
There has been some debate over the iPhone ’s similarities to the LG KE850 after Apple’s keynote. I think it’s pretty clear that the similarities between these two devices were a badly-timed coincidence. (more…)

DreamHost: Cheap Project Dumpsite
2007-01-28 03:56:04
In an effort to keep myself organized, I went ahead and opened up a second hosting account at Dream Host , as opposed to throwing all of my “idle” domains on my already-cluttered Media Temple account. I would have never done this if it weren’t for the fact that a year at DreamHost costs only $19 with the promo code 9999. (This isn’t an affiliate code as the majority of DreamHost codes are, so DreamHost is the only one making money off of this code.) Yes, I’m aware that DreamHost sucks. You get what you pay for. But the deal is just what I’m looking for — a cheap place to keep everything I don’t want to (or need to) look at every time I open Transmit.

Several Improvements in Parallels 3120
2007-01-28 03:56:04
I’ve never been the biggest fan of Para llels Desktop for Mac. There was always a big reason not to use it, like memory leaks, speed hogs, faulty network drivers, etc. I finally gave in and installed the most recent RC build to finally give Vista a much-overdue spin. And I have to say, build 3120 is pretty darn cool. (more…)

Twitter + Twitterrific = Constant Away Messages
2007-01-28 03:56:04
Twitter is a nifty little site that allows you to tell everyone on the net what you’re doing and when. The concept is simple–type what you’re doing in the box and press Update. The result is a nice, simple page with an archive of your activities. (You can also do some neat things like include your current status on your own website, like I’m doing in my sidebar.) (more…)

10 Free Apps Every Mac User Should Have
2007-01-28 03:56:04
Finding freeware apps that don’t end up just sitting on your hard drive can get pretty hard. This list is a collection of some essential freeware apps for OS X that I can honestly say I would pay for if they weren’t already free. If you’re a new Mac user and/or you haven’t tried these apps yet, I highly suggest you give each of them a spin. (more…)

Wii Tracker
2007-01-28 03:56:04
Wii Trac k er is a handy little site that automatically checks the availability of the Wii throughout a variety of online stores. (I finally got lucky and ordered one from Walmart thanks to the RSS feature.)
