Doubting the glory of the Chinese reverse engineering technology would probably be the last thing one would ever do. Gizmodo has recently shared the pictures of a Chinese mobile ...

Detect and Block Malware while Surfing using Haute Secure
2008-03-06 15:45:00
Heavy web surfers usually visit 100s of new web sites daily and for the ones concerned about their PC security, it is really hard to check every website for malware and spyware. Haute Secure is a service that detects and blocks malware for web surfers. This is much like the service offered by McAfee known as Site Advisor which checks web sites for malware and alerts the user about it. TechCrunch recently reviewed the new version of Haute Secure 2.0 and pointed out that it is better than MacAfee Site Advisor in many ways. Haute Secure detects, notifies and even blocks malware from a particular web page while Site Advisor does not block. Haute Secure is available for both Firefox and Internet Explorer. It will even search your Google search results for potential malware and will show you the results. Along with the feature of refining search results, it also checks a website through social ratings based on Digg and Del.icio.us It is a free solution, therefore it is recommended for ev...

How to Get More Out of your Single Gmail address
2008-03-06 11:43:00
You see! when they say that Gmail is the best, they say it for a reason. Yesterday, the official Gmail blog shared two interesting hidden features about Gmail that most people still don’t know about. The basic story is that when you register an email address with Gmail, say myemail@gmail.com, you get a whole set of multiple email addresses which are a subset of the your base email address. Gmail Hidden Trick # 1 You can append a plus (”+”) sign and any combination of words or numbers after your email address. Like if you have an email, say myemail@gmail.com, you can use myemail+friends@gmail.com or myemail+office@gmail.com to let users send a mail to your myemail@gmail.com account and then you could set up a filter to automatically star, archive or label emails different incoming emails. Here is a tutorial by Google on how to setup a filter. Gmail Hidden Trick # 2 You can use one or several dots (”.”) anywhere in your email address. Basically you are a...

Yahoo has launched a nice bookmarking tool called Yahoo! One place for mobile phones, enabling you to personalize search results and you can keep track of your favorite websites. Good thing about this bookmarking tools it that it updates the content on regular basis. Everything is instantly organized, dynamically kept up to date, and served up to you the way you want. The One Place also works great with couple of (similar) Yahoo applications OneConnect and OneSearch. Microsoft StartKey (Carry Windows Desktop on a USB Drive)
2008-03-06 10:57:00
Some time ago, Enagadget reported that Microsoft announced that it was teaming up with SanDisk last May to conjure up a suitable U3 replacement, to create a “new experience” for USB flash drives and memory cards. According to the two companies, the new technology will expand on and replace U3, and will let users carry their full personal computing environment (including their familiar interface) with them in addition to a few applications. And now, after almost one year, rumors are that the Startkey, the so-called Windows companion would essentially allow users to “carry their Windows and Windows Live settings with them” on any sort of flash memory device — be it a USB drive, SD card, etc. Interestingly, it’s also being reported that Microsoft would like to “build an end-to-end StartKey environment,” just like the U3. Pesonally, I’ve owned a U3 drive, when they came out, and I simply loved them. However, the main problem with U3...

Download Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1
2008-03-06 03:30:00
Finally, the much awaited browser by Microsoft — Internet Explorer 8 is finally available for download. This is the beta 1 release and I really cannot thank Microsoft enough for making the download available for the public instead of just pushing it to Microsoft Connect users only. Of course there are new exciting features but the look most closely resembles to that of Internet Explorer 7. It is too early too say this already but it looks more like a major IE 7 update than a whole new browser itself but the thing to remember is that it is still the beta release, not the final. Below is a list of new features in IE 8. Activities Activities are contextual services to quickly access a service from any webpage. Users typically copy and paste from one webpage to another. Internet Explorer 8 Activities make this common pattern easier to do. Web Slices WebSlices is a new feature for websites to connect to their users by subscribing to content directly within a webpage. WebSlices be...

How to Safely Restart Windows Explorer in Vista
2008-03-05 16:11:00
Lets face it, everyone has seen the explorer closing after putting the computer under cryogenics and leaving the user in a state of panic to save the current work. And the only remedy was to close the explorer process using Task Manager, which was not exactly an efficient way to do it because it left one with nothing but the desktop staring at the users face. Thankfully, Microsoft have admitted (in a shy kind of way) to this and have provided a “legal” and safe way to close the explorer. The trick tucked-away in the Start menu of Windows Vista lets you restart Windows Explorer without hastily killing its process and potentially breaking your session. The Trick Open the Start menu. Hold down the Control and Shift keys, and right-click on a blank space in the Start menu. Choose “Exit Explorer.” Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), navigate to File->Run, enter “explorer” and hit OK. Why would you ever want to restart Explorer, you might ask?...

When it comes to interactive mobile applications and an exciting mobile experience, Nokia phones are the best because of their powerful back-end operating system — Symbian OS. Nokia never fails to surprise its users and always comes up with a new technology that becomes the corner stone for the future. Likewise, Nokia has just recently announced through a press release that it is soon going to introduce Microsoft Silverlight for Nokia S60 and S40 Symbian powered devices. This will of course open a new gateway for developers allowing them to create rich, interactive applications that run on multiple platforms in a consistent and reliable way. Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering next-generation media experiences and rich interactive applications. It is much like Adobe Flash but with a different name and a different company on its back. Microsoft will demonstrate Silverlight on S60 during the opening keynote at Microsoft’s MIX08 conference ...

Get the new MSN Toolbar beta (Powered by Silverlight)
2008-03-05 13:33:00
Lately there was a news circulating the Internet stating that Microsoft shall soon be unveiling its new version of MSN Toolbar beta (Powered by Silverlight ). Well here it is! LiveSide is reporting that MSN Toolbar beta is now available to users in its first phase of testing. The new beta version will be available to only some Microsoft Connect users so if you want to get your hands on the new MSN Toolbar beta, Signup now. The cool thing is that the MSN Toolbar beta is powered by Silverlight (the counter-technology of Adobe Flash by Microsoft) however the toolbar is not good looking at all (I did not want to use the word “Ugly”) . Honestly if you come to think of it, how did Microsoft even deem that a black glossy style would be liked by Windows users who usually are accustomed to the white and sky blue colors. The other big question is about Windows Live Toolbar, is Microsoft planning to dump it? or is Microsoft going to continue its development? © 2008 Sizlopedia ...

2008-03-05 13:02:00
Google announced a mobile browser extension for creating rich web applications for mobile devices. The first version is now available for Internet Explorer Mobile on Windows Mobile 5 and 6. It can be used to develop offline capability into your mobile web applications. You can also create slick and responsive applications by hiding latency issues through controlled caching of data and storage of information between sessions. Google said that they are also working to bring Google Gears for mobile to Android and other mobile platforms with capable web browsers. As we know that Mobile devices are disconnected from the network more or less . Considering the fact that even when your mobile is connected, lag + slow connections usually mess up the web applications. Google claimed that Google Gears will overcome these issues! Google Gears works in exactly the same way on a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device as it does on a desktop PC. If you’ve already written an application that uses Googl...

Microsoft Launches UltimatePC (beta)
2008-03-05 12:38:00
Microsoft launched UltimatePC which is their new website where Microsoft will be hosting “blueprints” of the best PCs available and exactly what you can achieve with them. There is a small section at UltimatePC.com called “Ultimate Exclusives”. According to Microsoft these are not replacing Ultimate Extras. The reason given for the poor amount of extras is the high amount of testing and quality required for them to ship. Now WindowsUltimate.com will be directed to UltimatePC while Microsoft teams up with various partners to offer discounts to ultimate customers. It’s not clear how they will ensure only ultimate customers have access to the discounts. Until Microsoft start providing a time line about Ultimate Extras this is little more than a marketing site with little benefit to those who have paid a premium price for a poker game and to play videos as desktop wallpapers. Hopefully the new site will provide a place for the ultimate team to communicate...
