8GB memory not enough for you?
2008-02-19 13:46:00 It has only been 3 months since Apple released it?s long awaited iPhone and only a matter of days since the tariffs were changed to allow much better allowances. However we have now been treated to a new member of the Apple family.Sadly the iPhone features have not been changed at all which will no doubt disappoint all those that were hoping for a 3G iPhone. It seems Apple are going to make us wait even longer for this, making iPhone owners use Wi-Fi for fast internet rather than the slow EDGE capability. The new iPhone is exactly the same but has been bumped up with double the memory for £329, that?s 16GB compared to 8GB for £269. Now this is still a heck of a lot of money to pay out, but Apple enthusiasts seem to be willing to pay for the privilege. And if you have a major music collection, or enjoy watching movies or television shows on a portable screen, then the doubled memory might be for you.Once again the iPhone must be bought from Apple, o2 direct or Carphone Warehouse on a... Is the Nokia N95-8GB king of the mobile phones?
2008-02-19 13:46:00 These days technology is everywhere, with many of us carting multiple gadgets around with us from mobile phones to digital cameras, MP3 players to GPS devices in our cars. For a while now our pockets have been overflowing with all this portable tech, that is up until now the Nokia N95 has surfaced. The Nokia N95 is less a mobile phone and more of a portable office in the palm of your hand. The N95 could quite capably replace all the devices mentioned above, with it?s inclusion of it?s own GPS and ability to install other software on it this mobile phone has finally become the ?all-in-one? device we?ve been waiting for. The problem with some devices similar to this is that it becomes a jack of all trades and master of none, this could have been said about the initial release of the N95, with a silver colour-way and the need of external memory cards it was impressive, there were teething problems though, the battery life for this device was shockingly poor especially if you planned on ... Travelling to Europe for snow?
2008-02-19 13:45:00 Well it?s that time of year and Wintersports are back on the television. For those who are too eager to watch and actually want to take part in snow sports, Europe has many great slopes to try out. Mobile Network 3 are taking the Wintersports season as an opportunity to remind us about international calling rates. The EU legislation in 2007 brought in a maximum calling cost for all calls from EU countries back to the United Kingdom, the cap means that the maximum charge for a call to the United Kingdom will be just 28 pence per minute and the maximum cost to receive a call while in the EU is 19 pence per minute. While the other networks have lowered their rates, and are charging much less than in previous years, they have all pretty much stuck to the EU regulation cost and not really tried to beat it. 3 have got the lowest calling rates in the EU of all the UK and EU operators, meaning you can call home without worrying about getting a massive bill the following month.3 charge just 2... Less confusing than the rest?
2008-02-19 13:45:00 Virgin Mobile have released a new PAYG tariff this February that they are claiming is straight-forward and simple compared to other PAYG tariffs such as Stop The Clock, Favourite Place and Top Up Friday. However it is still a little confusing, and not a simple low cost flat rate tariff, like a lot of us hope for.The tariff is called Daily Bonus and your bonus only kicks in once you have made five minutes of calls in a day, once you have paid for five minutes you will get the next five minutes for free. After your Bonus five free minutes the rest of your minutes will be charged at the standard 15 pence per minute. It?s the same story for text messages, you pay for your first five then get the next five for free, after that it then it goes back to standard rate of 10 pence per message. You can only have five free minutes and five free messages in any one day, and any free minutes you do not use will not rollover to the next day.So as you can see it is not that simple, but if you make 1... 2008-02-19 13:41:00 Broadband is a common facility in most modern homes, the rise in speeds over the past few years has seen prices tumble to keep in line with what customers are willing to spend. Both companies have put out slightly misleading advertising campaigns belittling the opponent, who in turn have filed complaints to... More About: Broadband , Battle , Gloves
Say goodbye to expensive long distance calls
2008-02-19 13:41:00 Years ago, making long-distance phone calls was considered a luxury. The cost of making such calls was prohibitive to most people. Families and friends would often plan to gather by the phone in order to make long-distance calls to loved ones. That way, everyone could say hello and squeeze every penny of value from the pricey calls. Companies considered long-distance calls an expensive, yet unavoidable cost of doing business.Over the years, technological advances in telephony and telecommunications have caused a significant decline in the cost of making long-distance calls. VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) services make such expensive calls a thing of the past. Today, in many countries, people can make such calls for a fraction of the cost of years ago. No longer are friends and family forced to gather around the phone to make expensive phone calls to loved ones. Businesses have enjoyed the dramatic decline in their cost of doing business over the phone. VoIP has altered the land... More About: Calls , Long , Goodbye , Long Distance
Kodak promise better camera phones
2008-02-19 13:40:00 These days most of us have a mobile phone, a generous proportion of them being equipped with a camera of some sort. This amalgamation of two common gadgets: the phone and the camera has saved pocket and handbag space for millions of people who want to be able to shoot on the go.Meanwhile camera enthusiasts have rested easy on the fact that despite the ever-increasing number of mega-pixels these camera phones can churn out that the quality or rather the clarity of the pictures taken on mobile phones were always going to be grainy or noisy compared to their £200 Digital SLR camera. But it?s an old school camera manufacturer that is proposing new technology that will give these bulky cameras a run for their money.Kodak has developed a new sensor small enough to fit in camera phones that can handle high quality 5MP digital stills and can shoot impressive 720p High Definition video too. Kodak will be leaving the camera market sweating next week at the Mobile World Congress when it unveil... More About: Camera , Phones , Promise

Cell Phones: Text Messaging as a Second Language
2008-02-18 15:51:00 Recent news stories have reported a phenomenon that most knew existed: there is a gap in the use of text messaging between younger and older cell phone owners. Reports vary but indications are those 12 to 30 years of age account for 80% of text messaging usage.Because of the instantaneous nature of texting and the tiny keypads and screens on a cell phone, an entire language has developed around text messaging. For those cell phone owners who do not make use of text messaging, the intricacies of this language can make messages almost incomprehensible. This language is abbreviated for speed and ease of use. It is a rather phonetic language where single letters or numbers may stand for entire words, such as "Y" for "why" or "8" for "ate". Vowels may be omitted to further reduce keystrokes, such as "btwn" for "between" and capitalization and punctuation are rare. Acronyms are used for phrases and whole sentences such as "ADBB" for "all done, bye, bye". Symbols are also common in text me... More About: Cell Phones , Phones , Cell , Language , Text
Cell Phones for an Aging Population:Current Contenders to Consider
2008-02-18 15:51:00 The utility of cell phones have made them extremely popular devices. However, as cell phones have advanced in recent years with increasing functions and features, their rising complexity and declining size have made them difficult to access for those with decreased motor, auditory, and visual skills. Included among those who have difficulty with access are a significant number of those people over the age of 65.Most recent developments with cell phones have clearly focused on a younger population. Tiny multi-tasking devices that allow taking photos, downloading and listening to music, viewing video, and so forth are often more highly valued by a more youthful audience. Modern cell phones also demand excellent eye sight and fine motor skills to be able to operate them reliably. Although there are certainly many exceptions, vast numbers of older individuals either do not possess the visual and motor skills to operate such devices, are overwhelmed by the complexity, or simply do not de... Reverse Lookup An Alabama Cell Phone Number
2008-02-18 15:51:00 Just as Arkansas is known as The Natural State, the people of Arkansas have taken to using cellular phones for communication quite naturally. For many years now, communicating by cell phone has been growing in both popularity and importance throughout Arkansas. Though the largest number of users and the most stable networks are located in the three largest cities in Arkansas ? Little Rock, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville ? the entire state is well connected for mobile phone use.In the year 2000, the U.S. Census declared that the state of Arkansas had a population of 2,673,400. Of those people, 715,467 ? or over 26 percent ? subscribed to cellular phone service. Though this number was lower than the percentage throughout most of the states in the rest of the country, it grew quite rapidly. By the year 2006, the population had grown 5.1 percent to 2,810,872, and the number of cellular phone subscribers grew with it, only much more rapidly. Now, the number of cell phone service subscriber... More About: Phone , Alabama , Cell Phone , Cell , Lookup
Satellite Navigation with a difference
2008-02-18 15:50:00 The Garmin, one of the world?s leading Sat Nav manufacturers, have just announced the Garmin Nuvifone. Now this is a mobile and Sat Nav with a difference - it has the same software as the Garmin Nuvi Sat Nav but with the added bonus of mobile phone features. Now quite a few phones these days have GPS/Sat Nav incorporated in them, however some of them are basic, expensive and do not have the voice directions (which is really quite important!), Garmin have done the great thing of simply adding mobile phone features to their already popular Sat Nav.The Nuvifone will be 3G, have a music and video player, camera with video record and be completely touch controlled ? so it?s hardly lacking in the mobile stakes. Exact specifications are yet to be released, as the phone is not due out until late summer 2008, but that should be enough to spark the interest of business people. The GPS is obviously quite impressive on the Nuvifone, the main screen will have icons for Call, Search and View Map m... New Options In TV Technology
2008-02-18 15:50:00 Every once in a while it's a good idea to take a look at what kinds of TV display technologies are out there and run through how they're doing compared to each other. The most basic technology used in TV screens of course is the cathode ray tube. This is the big vacuum tube like monstrosity that's been around since the TV was first conceived of well over half a century ago. The cathode ray tube produces pictures by firing electrons at the screen of the TV where they're converted into photon of various colors, which in turn produce the pixels that the pictures that we see are composed of. This type of technology is still available, but has largely fallen out of favor in recent years because it's difficult to manufacture in the 16:9 aspect ratio that's now preferred for devices like HDTV sets (though there are HDTV sets that take advantage of cathode ray tube technology), because cathode ray tubes take up a lot of space, and because they consume significantly more power than new...
