Crysis 1.2 Patch

The Crysis 1.2 patch is now out which should make the game much more bug and glitch-free and also incorpirates a new anti-cheat system which will hopefully keep cheaters out of most servers! First HD3870X2's on Sale!

ATi's HD3870X2's are now on sale at aria.co.uk for £265.49! Click here to order one! Which is a bargain considering the 8800Ultra is still on sale for £440 and the 3870X2's out-perform the 8800Ultra's! All that remains to be seen is how nvidia will respond, and more crucially; how quickly they can get their GeForce 9000 Series cards on sale. Considering the distribution problems nvidia had over christmas with the 8800GT and GTS, one would think that they would not make the same mistake twice, but we'll just have to wait and see. ATi seem to have finally pulled their finger out at this point in time; hopefully this will mean more competitive prices for 2008!

Universe At War Review

I downloaded the demo for Universe At War. My first impression were that the graphics looked almost identical to that of C&C3 and it looks like they are using the C&C3 game engine for Universe At War. The Zoom function is extremely limited as it is in C&C3 and controlling large amounts of units is made very difficult. The engine scales well - as it did in C&C3 - and our FPS reading from FRAPS stayed firmly in the 50-60 range with everything maxed out (including 16QAA) at 1680 x 1050. FPS Minimum: 42 Maximum: 67 Average: 55.657 The Gameplay seems to be a hybrid of C&C:Generals and C&C3 and the controls are fairly standard for a RTS. The Units are well detailed although the units could have used a little more imagination for the alien races, in fact they closely resemble the Cybran and Aeon and UEF races from Supreme Commander. The resource collection system is also reminiscent of Supreme Commanders, as most objects on the battlefield can be 'reclaimed' and ...

ATI Takes the lead!

ATI has finally managed to take back the high-end graphics card market by producing the fastest graphics card to date! The new ATI HD3870 X2 has taken the lead from Nvidia's 8800Ultra. The 3870 X2's lead is not enormous but it shows progress for ATI, who have been unable to match the performance of Nvidia's high-end cards until now! I fear that this lead will be short-lived, due to the 9800 GX2 which is rumoured for release in late February / early March. the 9800 GX2 is said to be 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra which would steal the HD3870 X2's thunder quite a bit.

Far Cry 2 Trailer Released

Far Cry 2 is set in an African environment - modelled on Kenya - Far Cry 2 also runs on an especially designed engine, one which is said to be even more impressive than CryEngine 2. Tiberium Trailer Released

The trailer for Tiberium (Electronic Arts) has been released - it looks set to be an awesome title. Since it'll be running on CryEngine 2 we can expect to see graphics similar to that of Crysis! GDI, NOD & possibly Scrin battle it out for supremacy once again.

Warmonger Review

Warmonger is a relatively new free multiplayer FPS, with a difference! This game boasts fully destructable maps and brilliant graphics - although the framerate was quite poor because the game expects you to own a Ageia PhysX card. That said it was still playable on our test rig. read more

Trouble With Ubuntu!

The current version of Ubuntu (7.10) will not load up on our brand new system! After some research we've found that the problem lies in the defualt graphics driver that Ubuntu uses. A driver from Nvidia has been released but there is no way of installing it through a GUI since the Xserver will not work without a driver which supports the 8800GT!
