"A Window Mobile PocketPC trojan that disables Windows Mobile application installation security has been discovered in China.WinCE/InfoJack sends the infected device?s serial number, operating system and other information to the author of the trojan. It also leaves the infected mobile device vulnerable by allowing silent installation of malware. The trojan modifies the infected device?s security setting to allow unsigned applications to be installed without a warning."Of course you knew it was only a matter of time before a Trojan would affect your WM device. The difference here is that this virus is packaged within some legitimate programs. Strange is that the developer knew about this specific Trojan and stated it was only for informational purposes. One thing is certain, be sure to trust the developer you are downloading from.Read more about this specific virus from the below link. Thanks: McAfee

2008-02-27 05:55:00
Google2Go is a nice application that combines all of Google's popular mobile services into an easy to access program, eliminating the need for those mobile bookmarks.Still in the early development stage there are other added features in addition to the Google services such as Wikipedia, Weather.com, eBay and more. Currently Google2Go is only available for WM5/6 Pro devices (WiFi WM Classic devices, provided you have a data connection) but a WM Standard release is upcoming. Portrait mode will also be supported in a later release. Check out the link below for more information and download.Google2Go! by The Tech Turf

upcoming device: htc p3470
2008-02-24 22:33:00
It still shocks me each time I see a new WM device released with specifications that really do not suit the OS. Yes it does run, and yes it can get the job done, but at what cost? Slow movement between programs, and device lock ups hardly speak of productivity. Personally I think that is why WM gives a bad impression to those who have never used the OS. Does the upcoming HTC P3470 fall into this category? Check out the specs below and judge for yourself. The P3470 is a WM Professional device running the WM 6 operating system. It is a smaller device, coming in at 4.2 x 2.2 x 0.6 inches and weighing 0.26 pounds (108 x 58.3 x 15.7 mm / 122 grams) which puts it just larger than the HTC Touch. Unfortunately the similarities end after that bringing me to my above point. The P3470 comes equipped with quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE but no high speed data. It also lacks in the processor department with a TI OMAP 850 200mhz processor. Where it lacks in power it tries to make up with on b...

answered: classic, standard, professional...what?
2008-02-21 05:05:00
I received an interesting question today, "What is Classic , Standard and Professional ? Where did the Smartphone and Pocket PC go?" A valid question if you missed the redefining of these devices about 1 year ago. So a quick review:WM = Windows MobileWM Classic = Formerly Pocket PC. A PDA for those looking to organize but not have a fully converged device. Offers a touchscreen and sometimes WiFi for connectivity, but does not phone capabilities built in.WM Standard = Formerly Smartphone. Has a phone built in, but does not have the full functionalities of a PDA. Described as more of a phone first, pda second type of device. Does not have a touchscreen.WM Professional = Formerly Pocket PC Phone Edition. Includes the full functionality of PDA and has phone capabilities built in. A converged touchscreen device.Of course there could be more to add to each definition, but hopefully this gives you a brief overview. Have a question you need answered? Send it over: shackk (at) mobil...
upcoming device: samsung sgh-i200
2008-02-21 04:45:00
Samsung is adding a sleek, entry level device to the WM scene, the SGH-I200. Although not many details have emerged about this WM Standard device. WM 6.1 Standard, Bluetooth 2.0, 2.0mp Camera, tri-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE (900/1800/1900) and single band UMTS/HSDPA are some of the rumored features. Delivery to take place in mid 2008 but might not hit the U.S. market being that it is a tri-band device. Thanks: MobileBurn

devices: zune and wm...together? not really
2008-02-21 04:22:00
An interesting question has been posted on the WM Team Blog:"What are some ways the Zune player and a Windows Mobile device can work better together? I'm not referring to an imaginary "Zune phone", and I'm certainly not hinting or speculating about a converged device."I got excited until he said he was not referring to a "Zune Phone." Anyway it does give you the opportunity to express your ideas directly to the WM Team. So head on over and toss your ideas in the ring. You can even toss them here. You never know what could happen.Zune + Windows Mobile = Better Together?

programs: call jockey v1.3
2008-02-21 03:48:00
From the "why didn't I think of that" department comes Call Jockey , a funny fake call emulator. Ok maybe I did think of it but the thought of perpetrating a conversation on a cell phone did not seem....right? Either way, the folks at Connective Tools have taken the idea and ran with it.Here's how it works. Have you ever wanted an out of the situation you are in and just wished your phone would ring? Well this program does just that. You program a time you want your phone to ring and just like an alarm clock, your phone begins to ring. Viola, a perfect excuse to excuse yourself from whatever you were doing.Unfortunately you have know the situation you want to get out of ahead of time so you have sufficient time to program your fake call. Call Jokey is fully functional and entirely free until March 1, 2008! So make your way over and grab your bs excuse program while you can.Call Jockey 1.3 Page

programs: webmessenger...now free!

One thing you can always count on is Mobile Days finding, and bringing you free stuff. Not that the programs you pay for are bad in anyway, heck I have paid for more than my fair share, but free always has a nice ring to it. Today is not any different. WebMessenger, a instant messenger that has been around for a little while, is now free of charge for WM users. In part of a 1 page press release:"WebMessenger, Inc., an enterprise mobile messaging software and services company, today announced they have opened up free downloads of their market proven WebMessenger Mobile IM clients as well as free business-class IM service for mobile professionals who use Blackberry, MS Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Palm PDAs and smartphones. The free IM service provides single client access to AIM, Google, MSN, Skype, and Yahoo."Although the focus is directed toward business professionals looking for additional communication options, I see this competing directly with some of the other free im pro...

No third party servers and no nationwide blackouts."I was wondering why we didn't see this after the first outage from any competitor, but you knew the second outage was not going to go unnoticed, did you?

programs: netfront browser v3.5 "concept"
2008-02-13 03:30:00
"Experience faster and smoother browsing with NetFront Browser v3.5 for Windows Mobile Concept Version. Leveraging the latest NetFront Browser core available for the Windows Mobile platform, NetFront Browser v3.5 for Windows Mobile Concept Version features improved key operation, stylus pen functionality and overall usability. The browser also features improvements in speed including first draw time, zooming speed and rendering mode selection."While I have yet to hear of a "concept version" of a program until now but there is a first for everything. NetFront is climbing into a competitive browser market as of late with the likes of Skyfire just releasing their beta and Opera also coming with a version of their own. Some features of this concept include speed improvements, swift navigation, animated zoom, page map and column rendering. The big kicker is the 6.0mb of executable memory required to run the program. Since a book can never be judged by the cover I'll hold judgment on...

news: 14.3 million wm devices in 6 months
2008-02-12 04:15:00
Well if you are not one that cares about statistics, you can be sure that the folks and Microsoft sure do. A spokesperson announced today at the Mobile World Congress that that in a span of 6 months 14.3 Windows Mobile devices have been sold. Clearly beating out rival Apple and their iPhone with approximately 4 million units sold and boldly predicting 20 million units sold by June.Even though I am a WM junkie, we really cannot compare apples to apples here as there are multiple devices running WM of all shapes and sizes compared to only one iPhone. Sales of the closest WM competitor, the HTC Touch, have been very strong but far short if we were to compare device v. device. The main points to bring home here are that 1. WM is still selling very strong and 2. Microsoft wanted to say loudly that were kicking Apple in the stem if you know what I mean. Thanks: Pocket Lint

programs: skyfire browser, now beta
2008-02-12 03:15:00
Founded in April 2006, Skyfire is an exciting venture-backed innovator in mobile web browsing with a mission to dramatically improve your browsing experience on mobile phones. We created the only mobile browser that delivers both the speed and media-rich experience similar to the PC browser. For the first time, you can watch any video, listen to any music, socialize on any network and browse whatever you want. Anything you can do from your PC, you can now do from your mobile phone using Skyfire. We believe it?s going to change the way you use your mobile phone. Not only is the above true, the speed at which you can do it is even more impressive. Skyfire, the newest browser for WM, is now available as a beta test. The only catch is that you must be a user within the United States to participate and of course be running WM. Definitely worth having a look. Don't expect perfection as this is a beta and there were a couple of things not working properly (3rd party keyboard support an...

programs: pointui v1.02b released, still free
2008-02-08 05:02:00
I will admit I was not enough of a fan of PointUI when it was first released, so much so I did not even make a post about it. First there were many bugs that for me made the interface unreliable and second, the amount of memory it used seem to be a bit high for my needs. Well PointUI has released an updated version that addresses the points I have made above and make some significant system changes that have made me take another look. Some of the changes that have been made:* Windows Standard Devices now Supported* Battery saving - now only uses marginally more battery power than normal - smartphone users should notice a big difference (of course this is dependent on how excessive you are with using it).* Memory leak issues fixed.* Voice mail count is now displayed under the missed call count for those with phone networks supporting this feature.* Soft key on Today screen no longer overridden. (NOTE: you will need to reset it back to what it was manually if you have a previous ver...

news: wm on a nokia?
2008-02-08 02:47:00
Although I would not hold my breath on this one, rumors have been swirling today about a conversation that has taken place with Microsoft and Nokia to have Nokia devices run WM software. Microsoft?s Mobile Communications Business International Marketing Director John Starkweather is the one who sparked this interest by confirming has has been in talks with the Finnish company. This is not the first time I have seen talk about Nokia running WM software and I am sure it is not the last. However, I do not see a company running strong with its own S60 interface changing that over to WM anytime soon. Although a N95 might look nice with a WM6 OS, don't you think?

Wall Street Journal has unveiled a new news application for WM. The application allows you to download the latest news headlines, photos, video streams and podcasts directly to your device. device fakeout: t32, the wm iphone?

Well if you just can't get enough of the Apple iPhone but hate Apple then this might be for you. A Chinese manufacturer has introduced the T32 sporting a 3.5 inch QVGA screen (notice they kept the same homescreen as the current iPhone), 2mp camera, and triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE. I guess leaving out the high speed data was right inline with the current iPhone. All kidding aside it also includes WiFi, Bluetooth 1.2 and runs on WM6 professional, making it a touchscreen device.Of course availability has not been announced and I would quickly believe the moment it is, the lawyers at Apple will quickly pounce on this easy courtroom victory. Thanks: the::unwired
