Nintendo NES PC Hack
2007-02-21 18:29:01
You know...it's been a while since I've done a write-up on a NES mod, and I think it's about time I did. So without further ado, I'll mention an excellent NES hack by hatsuli from the Instructables site. Hatsuli decided he'd turn an old NES into a personal computer! So how did he do it? Well, he gutted out the case of an original NES and stuffed it full of computer components. Because of the size restrictions, hatsuli had to go with a smaller mini-itx motherboard with integrated processor, sound card and video adapter. He also used a 40 GB hard drive and slimline DVD/CD drive from an old laptop. Hatsuli also added composite and S-Video connectors to his NES PC so he would be able to connect it to a larger TV screen. Great for playing NES emulator games on the PC!In short, this NES hack is amazing! Oh, and for all those naysayers that say hacking an original NES is sacreligious...don't worry hatsuli has a fully working NES besides his hacked NES PC!To check out the whole...

LCD Cork Board Hack
2007-02-21 18:29:01
Do you have a broken LCD computer screen? Well, if you do, don't throw it out! Nataku from the PCSTATS Forum has a neat little hack that may just interest you. He hacked an LCD screen and turned it into a cork board. Yes you read that right...a cork board!!So, what the hell am I talking about? Well, I'll tell you. Nataku used to work at TigerDirect and someone there was going to throw away a broken Compaq LCD screen. Nataku, didn't waste any time snapping up the "useless" LCD screen! It turns out the screen wasn't as useless as you might think. Nataku decided he'd turn it into a cork board, by gutting out the innards and replacing it with a piece of cork. The final results are pretty sweet! Great job of recycling Nataku!!To check out the hack click here.

Circuit Board Earrings Hack
2007-02-21 18:29:01
Do you have a geeky mother, girlfriend or sister...or perhaps you're a geeky female yourself (or a cross-dressing male one)? Anyways, if you said yes to any of these questions this next hack is for you!CameronSS's sister was looking through a catalogue one day when a pair of earrings caught her eye. It was a pair of circuit board earrings that cost about $20! Lucky for her she had CameronSS as a brother...because he went ahead and saved his sister 20 bucks by making her a set himself. And lucky for us he was a nice enough guy to write up the whole hack on the Instructables site!Basically, you take a surface mount circuit board and cut it into two identical pieces with a band saw. You then sand down the sides and drill a hole into each and attach the earring hooks. The final results are pretty cool!To check out the whole hack click here.

Xbox Media Center Hack

Such as:Microsoft XboxNetworked PCOriginal MechAssault GameDatel Xbox Action ReplayKrayzie's NDURE installerXbox Media Cent er (XBMC)uTorrentFlashFXPWinrarDon't worry...most of the things mentioned above are free with the exception of the Xbox, PC, MechAssault game and the Datel Action Replay device. To check out the whole hack click here.

Eyeglass Coating Removal Hack
2007-02-21 18:29:01
Here's an interesting hack that was featured on the Make blog. It involves removing the UV filter coating from a pair of glasses simply by polishing them. Warning don't try this with a new pair of glasses! As Jason (hack author) puts it:The lenses in my favorite pair of glasses are getting to be about a year or two old, and it's getting to the point where I can barely see through them. My prescription hasn't changed much - the problem is that the UV filter coating is starting to wear off, giving the entire lense surface a rough, partially-opaque finish. So what did Jason do? Well he spent an evening polishing the lenses with...get this...sun screen!! Yes oil-free SPF 45 sunscreen did the job quite well! How you say? Well Jason thinks that it might be because "sunscreen has extremely fine aluminum powder in its composition, which is course enough to work away the coating, but fine enough to not leave visibly deep scratches in the soft plastic." Sounds like a good enough expl...

Paracord Bracelet Hack
2007-02-21 18:29:01
Well, the other day I did a write up about circuit board earrings and now today I'm doing one on a paracord bracelet. This is another great gift idea for your girlfriends! It's CHEAP and we can make it ourselves...just the type of present guys like us love to give, right!! :)Anyways, this is yet another hack from the Instructables site. Stormdrane (author) does a great job of explaning how to turn an ordinary piece of paracord rope into a very stylish bracelet. So what do you need? Surprisingly little! You need a "paracord, or equivalent 1/8" diameter cord, a tape measure or ruler, scissors, side release buckle, and a lighter(torch lighter works best)." That's it!So what do you do? Well, you braid the paracord by tying a series of knots along a piece long enough to fit around your wrist. And add a side release buckle for attaching the bracelet to your wrist. Stormdrane has lots of pictures of the whole hack on the Instructables site. Check it out!!To check out the whol...

How trippy is that?I know you guys are probably reading this thinking "this guy's on crack!" But, I assure you I'm on the level. Jason Bradbury from JasonBradbury.com has come up with an ingenious little hack. He actual creates a mobile wi-fi hotspot device that can fit in a backpack! So, how did he do it? Well, he took a Linksys Wireless router with Standard PC Card slot for a Mobile Broadband Data Card and added a first generation Vodaphone 3G data card to the router's PCMCIA slot. He used a 12 volt battery for juice, by soldering a power connector from the battery to the router. The battery "gives you about eight hours wiffy playtime." And, for the piece de resistance, you can add booster antenna "to send your signal far and wide."The final results? A portable wi-fi hotspot that you can use to, as Jason put...

He took an old rice cooker and added a bit of piping where the steam vent used to be. Then he took a garbage bag and attached it to the piping as a condeser. And presto-bango he had himself a still!TimAnderson also shows how he made a fermentation jug for making homebrew. Again, his design is very simple. He took a 5 gallon jug and attached a rubber glove to the neck of the jug with some rubber bands for the vapor trap. So easy!To check out the whole hack click here.

Car Minifridge Hack
2007-02-21 18:29:01
This interesting little hack was featured on the Antiyawn.com site. The hack involves building a minifridge into the armrest of a car!For this particular hack, Mike (author), used a '98 Toyotal Corolla's armrest to house the minifridge. So how did he do it? Well, he bought a peltier cooler from eBay for about $15 and used two old heatsinks (1 hot, 1 cold) for the actual fridge components. He also used insulation tape he purchased from Home Depot to insulate the inside of the armrest. When he had all his components, Mike began working at the armrest. He took out the armrest's carpeting and cup holder and mounted the hot heatsink in the hole where the cup holder used to be. He then cut a slot into the inside of the armrest with a soldering iron to house the cold heatsink. Finally, he insulated the insides and wired it all up!To check out this awesome hack click here!
