Simple hack keeps Netflix Watch Now from tracking your minutes?
2007-03-07 20:41:02 Remember how back in the day — before software developers got wise to this sort of thing — you could extend the life of some shareware indefinitely by simply winding back your machine’s calendar every so often? Well according to tipster “Livesunkept” (a pseudonym, we suspect), a similar jury-rigged hack is all it takes to vastly extend your monthly allotment of viewing hours for Netflix’s new Watch Now streaming video service. Normally Netflix keeps track of how long you’ve been watching, and correlates that number to the fee you pay each month, subtracting from your bank of minutes based on your subscription level (i.e. an $18 plan might give you 18 hours of streamed viewing). Always looking for a way to beat the system, Livesunkept discovered that if you disconnect your network adapter after a given movie has finished downloading (usually 15 to 20 minutes), and then clear your cache and cookies before reconnecting it at the end of the fl... Apple adds Ms. Pac-Man iPod game to iTunes Store
2007-03-07 20:41:02 New iPod games have been few and far between in recent months, but Apple just added another one to its iTunes Store. Ms. Pac-Man is the game, and it’s a faithful conversion of the classic arcade game. Ms. Pac-Man has four unique maze designs, and 256 levels to chomp your way through. The game also features the animated intermissions from the original arcade game, for added authenticity. There’ll be three game modes too. Original is, well, the original in all its pixelly glory. Normal mode has been specially tuned for the iPod, while Easy is… We’ll let you guess that one. As with all iPod games, you can opt to use your own tunes as the soundtrack, or have the game’s own sounds instead. And there’s a high-score table to boot. We weren’t too keen on iPod Pac-Man, due to its fiddly controls, so here’s hoping Ms. Pac-Man has corrected that fault. We’ll let you know when we’ve had a good play. In the meantime, check out our pick ... More About: Itunes , Ipod

Run Windows Vista for 120 days without activation key
More articles from this author:2007-03-07 20:41:02 When you first install Wind ows Vista , you can run it for 30 days without entering a product key. This is the evaluation period, but what happens if your thirty days runs out before you buy an activation key; if you’re not sure you want to buy one; or if you were only trying out Vista and don’t plan to buy it, but have some files you need to get off of that computer? Well, as Dwight Silverman found out the hard way, on day 31 Windows boots up and gives you a warning message that you’re running a version of Vista that’s not “genuine.” Then Internet Explorer opens up and asks if you’d like to purchase an activation key. Silverman was able to figure out how to open a few programs and move a few files around through the Internet Explorer interface, which was necessary because he wanted to clean up the PC before returning the evaluation computer he’d been using. But it turns out there’s an officially supported way to turn that 30 day e... More About: Windows Vista , With 1, 2 |
