MediaREADY's BLINGPLAYER Brings Swagger to Music MediaREADY late yesterday introduced the BLINGPLAYER. The company claims the new jukebox is as much a fashion statement as a functional player: the main body is studded in crystals, and hangs around the neck by a stylized chain with dogtags. The device itself is also more advanced than other players in the class, with a 1.8-inch screen and support for MPEG-4 video as well as more conventional MP3 and WAV music tracks. An FM tuner and voice recorder are also part of the package. A single version of the player with 2GB of flash memory is due to ship in April for $199; the company adds that the player will be available at clothiers and jewelers as well as electronics shops.

Chubby Creative Zen Visi on:M Got Thinner Creative Zen Visio n :M is one of the first 2.5" video players that really impress in terms of overall experience. The only downside from the beginning is the size. Being a chubby player, especially the 60GB one, the Zen doesn't exactly feel heavy, but feels like holding two decks of cards. The designers at Creative probably felt the same, so they just slimmed down the Zen from 0.87" down to 0.75". The revised model has got a new slimmer hard drive so it should hold the same battery. Nothing yet on the codec support. A lot of people including myself are asking for H.264 and component support.

The black phone shown above should be the rumored Sofia (code name, K850i) with a 5 megapixels CCD camera module and xenon flash. (CCD, as found on the Thai I-mobile 902, not CMOS). Pay attention to the newly introduced dial/hang up buttons right next to the 2 softkeys below the screen, the d-pad that merges with the number pad at the middle to fit a pretty large QVGA screen. Also check out the camera illumination icons similar to the K810i, that will light up in camera mode to act as camera option shortcuts. The photos are dated back 3 months ago, so it is possible that SE might make final touchups to the design, as experienced by the K750i and W800i in the past. Yeah, mobile phones have been status symbols and fashion accessories for some time now, but the concept of a designer's name taking top billing in the product name is a fairly recent development. If Gucci really does have a handset baking in the oven, we're guessing the Italian icon isn't doing the heavy lifting of the development all by its lonesome, though we haven't an inkling who might be involved. Heck, we can't even really make out what kind of form factor we have going on here, and all we've got is this one lonely pic up on flickr to go by. Of course, LG and Prada have set the bar pretty high in this arena, so if this is legit, Gucci had best come out with guns blazing.
