Microsoft Patches ANI Security Flaw

Prior to the Microsoft patch released on Tuesday, the ANI cursor flaw put users of most supported versions of Windows and Windows Server, including Windows Vista, at risk of attackers taking control of their system. However, users running Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7 in protect mode should be safe from the ANI exploit, even on unpatched systems. (more…)

Over the past several weeks, there was some speculation that the release of Wind ows Vista would force Apple to delay the launch of Mac OS X Leopard while it resolved Windows Vista compatibility issues with Boot Camp , but the news of Boot Camp update should calm those fears. Intel’s new 45-nm Penryn processors, which will hit a front side bus speed of 1,600 MHz, will have twice as many transistors in 25 percent less space than in equivalent 65-nm processors, with equal or less power requirements.Power management and deeper sleep states will be improved over Core 2 Duo chips, enabling Penryn speeds of 3.3 GHz or more. Roduction will begin by the end of this year on Intel’s next generation of microprocessors, dubbed “Penryn,” the company announced Wednesday in San Francisco.
