The Top 25 Music And Education Related Web 2.0 Sites As Selected By My Coll
2008-03-15 18:41:00
One of the last projects that I had my music technology students perform this year was to search http://go2web20.net and find web 2.0 applications that they thought would be beneficial to an educator or musician.  If you haven?t been to Go2Web20?s website, you are in for a real ?shocker? when you finally do.  You will not believe how many online Web 2.0 applications are available to you -the majority for FREE.  Many of them are awesome and some, well, not so awesome? Hopefully this list will shed some light on the more useful programs for music educators! The following are Web 2.0 sites (and their comments) that my students found to be interesting and useful to them in some way: http://songza.comThis website is a music search engine and jukebox, meaning that you can pull up any song that can be found on the site and listen to it.  This is inclusive of major works (motion picture soundtracks, top artists, etc.).  As a music educator, this would be ...

Calling All Music Directors That Write And Use Program Notes!
2008-03-12 19:46:00
Hello friends,         ; I along with a couple of other co-SAVVY bloggers have started, what will no doubt be the best and most useful, program noteswebsite available to date (how?s that for ambitious!).   I am very excited about the look of the site and the, very real, usefulness factor it provides.         ; I/we have been Alpha testing this site and am ready to have about a dozen new folks try this out and work with me on a closed BETA version of the site.   In particular, I am looking for directors with choral, jazz, and orchestra program note experience/writers to continue the testing, but I?ll take band and wind ensemble directors too!         ; I really would like to publicly have the BETA moved into full production by mid-April.   If you have written notes, and or want to write notes, we could REALLY use your help with this project.  T...

Quizlet.com And My Conducting Mastery Group Flashcards
2008-02-26 16:49:00
I?ve decided to go ?high-tech? (like that?s a new one!) and put a number of the terms that I require my instrumental conducting students to know, by rote, on the super-cool site, Quizlet.  Quizlet is a free to use site that boasts: ?The End of Flashcards?.  Quite candidly, it really is an amazing learning tool that more people need to become aware of and utilize. Quizlet pokes fun at vocabulary learning by stating there are 5 ways to learn vocabulary: Brain injection Quizlet Flashcards Reading a list a gajillion times Praying Screenshot:  I?ve had a quizlet account since I became aware of it last year, but had not done anything ?officially? with it until this morning after I promised my conducting class a new way to help them learn the enormity of vocabulary that I require of them.  Quizlet offers a number of great and fun ways to learn your ?list?.  You can: View one sided (flip type) flashcards View two sided flash cards (term and answer) Take tru...

Mustech.net?s 2nd Season Of Music And Technology Podcasts Have Begun
2008-02-25 05:13:00
Darren and I have started our 2nd season of podcasts!  This season we plan on increasing the number of guests on our show from both here in the United States and outside the country!  I?ve also added a flash player in the left sidebar of mustech.net so that you can quickly listen to any episode of our show.   In addition, I will continue to refine ways to get the ?word out? about our show and make access to it easier. Darren and I do not keep a ?release? schedule like our good friend Keith Mason who puts out his great podcasts on the 1st and 15th of each month.  We usually do two per month and they are posted as soon as we have the time to get them up?  at some point we might actually get it on a real schedule.  No promises! You can find our first podcast of the new season here: Blogging, Blu-Ray, HD-Radio and RSS! You can also find the entirety of our podcasts by visiting our podcast category on mustech.net. The End Of The High Definition Format War: Blu-ray Is The Champion
2008-02-20 19:52:00
Toshiba has ?called it quits? and Sony?s Blu-ray format has become the undisputed ?winner? of the high definition wars.  Quite frankly, I?m glad the war has ended. I decided that I was going to wait until Christmas season this year to decide on which format that I wanted to support/own and now I don?t have to make that decision.   As an owner of an XBOX 360, the temptation was there to buy the HD-DVD player but, looking through my ?future goggles?, I thought that the format might have a problem ?catching on? with the public for various reasons. The one sticking point that I always came back to with regard to the specificities of the formats was that Blu-ray, from the outset, could hold 20GB of more data that the HD-DVD for its dual layer type media and the theoretical limit for Blu-Ray is 200GB and HD-DVD is only 60GB.  This is a major consideration when you consider how fast we are ?chewing up? data allocations with our media storag...

Budding Bloggers: Tips To Help You Become Known Among Your Colleagues And P
2008-02-12 06:08:00
I?m writing this post to the new ME bloggers, but it?s relevant to any new blogger starting out.  In the beginning blogging can be a little confusing, exciting, depressing, and overwhelming.   Here are a 10 tips to help you get the word out about your blog among other bloggers and friends: Comment on other sites!  This is the fastest way for you to become noticed by others in your ?circle?.  If somebody comments on your site, moderate it quickly (if so required) and comment back to the commentator as soon as you can (Why not after you moderate it?).  Add as many sites/people with related topics or topics you think your readership (future readership?) will be interested to your BLOGROLL. Write a post linking to another bloggers post (make sure you include the link to the other blogger?s post in the body of your post).  This will create a trackback on the other blogger's post linking back to your site and notify the other blogger about you...

Mustech.net Welcomes John Wilborn To The Blogosphere!
2008-02-05 05:50:00
I met John Wilborn in Grand Rapids last week.   Along with our good friend, Keith Mason, we spent a lot of time talking over the issues facing music education and education in general. John is a master music educator and has taught general and choral music education for over 25 years in Georgia.  Look for great posts from John in the future and stop by and say hello! You can find his site here: http://johnwilborn.wordpress.com.  His first post was about his ?moving sidewalk analogy?.  He told me about this at the TI:ME conference and it is a good analogy to use for teachers.       SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Mustech.net Welcomes John Wilborn To The Blogosphere !", url: "http://www.mustech.net/2008/02/mustechne t-welcomes-john-wilborn-to-the-blogospher e/" }); ShareThis Scroll Down To Join our Conversation and Comment!
