Did You Ever Wonder If There Was A Global UnSubscribe Spam List?
2008-06-03 18:03:00 If you?ve ever wondered if there was a way to globally unsubscribe to spammers and spam list, you?re out of luck. There is no such thing. I was researching this topic today and found a fairly authoritative answer at Spam Haus (SpamHaus is one of the ?Big-Guns? working to reduce email spam) . SpamHaus points out a number of so-called ?spam removal? services being run by seemingly would-be do-gooders are, in fact, SPAM or Email Collectors themselves. They state that ?Any system that wants money in exchange for removing your address from a spammer?s list is a scam?. ~Seems logical to me. The biggest con of them all seems to be the Direct Marketing Associations ?spam opt-out service?. SpamHaus states that the very mission of the group is to ?advance the interest of junk-email senders.? They go on to state that some sites literally ?spray? hundreds of millions of emails out per day. What about sending a ?Re... More About: Global , List , Unsubscribe
62nd Midwest Clinic Band And Orchestra Presentations Announced
2008-05-28 18:51:00 I just received an email from the Midwest Clinic announcing the presenters and clinics for this year. If you are a band, orchestra, or music educator that has not made the ?pilgrimage? to Chicago for the Midwest clinic, I STRONGLY encourage you to consider going this year. Attending the Midwest clinic will positively change your outlook about our profession regardless of where you are currently ?at? in your career and current situation. One of the most interesting clinics I attend last year featured Francis McBeth, James Barnes, Eric Ewazen, and Mark Rodgers. It was entitled, ?So you want to be a composer?and I wrote about it here if you are interested in reading abou it. The clinics look to be very interesting this year; here is the tentative list of presentations and presenters from the Midwest Clinic site (You can pre-register for Midwest here): Developing the Basic Fundamentals and Musical Integrity of Young OboistsAnn Adams Anyone Can Improvi... Blue Snowball Microphone (USB Mics), Great For Some Audio Applications? What
2008-05-23 22:28:00 The Blue Snowball Microphone is definitely on the ?cool? end of USB Microphones. Blue Microphones have been making their ?ball? type microphones for a number of years now and the ?Snowball? is their latest USB offering. At first glance the Blue ?Ball Microphones? look quite different, the mics themselves are about as big as a softball and varied in color; the Snowball is, as you would expect, white. In order to help with some of the thumps and bumps you might pickup while using them to record they offer the Blue ?Ringer?, which is a suspension unit for the microphone that gives a ?vintage? look and helps with picking up unwanted ?knocks? with the microphone. The big ?hook? with the Snowball is that it is a USB, plug and play, condenser microphone. That is, you plug it into your comptuer and it works (no drivers needed). Another great option with the Snowball is the three-pattern switch which allows for changing the recordi... More About: Applications , Audio , Great
MusOpen, Get Free Classical And Non-Copyrighted, Public Domain Music Online
2008-05-16 18:06:00 If you?ve been following my articles about the International Music Score Libary Project (IMSLP.org), you?ll be happy to know that I?ve been recently been made aware of another similiar site that looks to be very promising. MusOpen.com offers a music library of copyright free, public domain music. MusOpen also offers a service called MusOpen: Bid that allows you to bid for them to create an engraving (computer entered) of any public domain, copyright free music. MusOpen does a great job of allowing people to search through their music by offering search categories that include: Composer, Instrument, Period, and Form. One of the great unique options with their Free library is the ability to preview and listen to each piece. Using a great free publishing service called Scribd, users are able to preview, email, download and play any of the music they offer. All in all, MusOpen is a great resource that does what it stat... RSS Scraping, Scavenging, Stealing, And Content Theft?Get Thee Behind Me!
2008-05-14 23:58:00 I?ve been noticing a number of Auto Blogs, Content Thieves, and SPLOGS stealing my content, word for word, even going as far as stealing my Post Slugs Verbatim! I am going to begin actively changing a number of ways in which I syndicate this site over the next month to attempt to deal with these outcasts. I?ve recently installed the ?Anti Leech? plugin from Owen Winkler and will be considering a number of other changes to my content, including a specific policy with regard to content usage from MusTech.Net. It is very hard to stop these sites from ?snagging? your content especially if you use a full RSS feed like I do (Yes, I?m even considering turning that back to a partial). One of the big issues with this kind of vile operation is that legitimate people looking for your content will find it on another?s site and end up getting the benefits from your hard work. Although it?s relativivley easy for me to find out who is virtually copying my blo... More About: Theft , Stealing

Update: International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) To Be Re-establis
2008-05-08 07:41:00 The International Music Score Library Project is to be re-established on July 1st, 2008 at 12:00 AM EST according to a front page message on their temporary WIKI page. If you don?t know what the IMSLP project is or was I can tell you that you were missing out on something amazing? The IMSLP housed over 15,000 copies of public domain scores that were available completely free as downloadable documents. The service was literally priceless, especially to people, groups, and organisations that did not have the financial resources to buy reprints or compilations of these public domain documents. Approaching a year ago, on October 13th of 2007, IMSLP was forced to shutdown their noble project because of pressures from countries that were still making money off of these documents (As you may not know, copyright lengths vary from country to country). Because IMSLP was being operated by a group of individuals without tremendous resources they, no dou... More About: Update

2008-05-01 00:43:00 If you have not been to the NAME?s (When are we going to start using the NAME abbreviation, instead of MENC, more?) website for a while you will notice that they received a substantial upgrade to the look of their site. Although it has taken me awhile to find everything I used before at their site, I think you?ll agree with me that the upgrade is an improvement. Chief among the facelifts is, finally, the addition of two NEEDED and easy to access RSS Feeds embedded within their front page (Now it?s up to us to get everyone to know how to use them!): MENC News: http://menc.org/news.rssMENC Events: http://menc.org/events.rss They have also added some relevant adds to the left sidebar and created a Newsblog ?look? to the front page. Continuum Midi Controller?Changing The Way We Think About Keyboard Controll
2008-04-29 15:42:00 I?ve been aware of the Continuum Keyboard by Haken Audio for some time now. I have never had my ?hands? on one yet, but I intend to buy one for the next school year and utilize it in a number of classes and ensembles. [Can't See Video In RSS go to Http://mustech.net for video] If you haven?t seen the continuum you are in for a shock? It is a fully functioning MIDI keyboard that works in 3 dimensions, unlike a piano or standard keyboard midi controller. It?s Z direction typically works like a piano and gives you velocity sensitive amplitude changes. It?s X position is usually matched to pitch (think going up and down keys on the piano) ?.However, it?s Y Direction (Imagine sliding your finger all the way up and down the ivory of the keyboard, top to bottom) is where the big midi controller change comes into play. Using the Y direction you can literally change timbre parameters? imagine making a trumpet flutter tongue or a sax... More About: Changing , Midi , Controller

Is Music Performence Oriented In America, Does Freeware Cause Starvation, A
2008-04-22 15:47:00 Attending a music conference regularly is a must for any educator; it gives time for reflection, reinvention, relaxation, and? RECHARGING! The PMEA convention held in Hershey PA, did just that for me and the thousands in attendance. While at PMEA, as always I had a chance to speak with numerous band directors, choir directors, general music education teachers, vendors, music experts, and technology experts. There were a number of interesting conversations that I had this time around and I thought I would share them with you to see if you all had any opinions on what was purveyed to me by various folks: Music education in the U.S. is predominantly performance oriented? This one has been going around a long time?are we still so focused on performances in America that we totally miss what making music is all about? Freeware music products take the food out of the mouths of people writing and supporting software for a living? This ...
If You See This You Are On The New Server At MusTech.net
2008-04-21 04:19:00 If you are seeing this you are properly seeing the new server at mustech.net. There have been a whole host of issues with transferring this to the VPS server. Many of the issues were compounded by the update to WordPress 2.5. Here is what is not working but will work: The Forums (Will be back as soon as I can figure out a few installation issues) Some of the visuals on the front page and sidebars OpenID Here is what will not work: Unfortunately, I had to loose all non-contributing (read writers) user accounts. I was not able to successfully move the user sql file over to the new server. One of the major issues I had with this upgrade was (getting technical here) changing the database from pre 2.1 language compatiable (latin) to post 2.1 compatible (UTF). This played havoc on the wording of all posts and comments. Because of that I was not able to simplly transfer the database, I had to use an XML export and re-import?this only worked for comments, posts, etc. I found no way to... More About: Server

An Interesting Problem With NBC.com, IE, And Tablet PCs
2008-04-10 17:15:00 This computer problem was brought to my attention and I thought I would post it on Mustech.net to see if any of you SUPER TECH SAVVY people out there could shed some light on this problem?. and help all of us with a working solution within the context of how we are trying to get this resolved. The problem:If you have a Tablet PC, and XP (or Vista), and have tried to access NBC.com with IE7 (Internet Explorer -I?m not sure about version 6 or prior), you get the following typical, bland, message: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage This is only interesting because it WILL open with Opera, Firefox, and other browsers on the tablet PC. To further compound the issue, it will open fine in any of the other XP or VISTA, non-tablet, PC editions/computers. The problem seems to be materialized only with the tablet PC and IE combination when going to the site www.nbc.com. I have not find this anomaly anywhere else. Are...
