Fujitsu's first "Zero-Watt" Monitor, 0 watt standby mode.
2008-05-01 05:33:00
In the world where every day the polar caps are melting, and it's getting so hot that you feel like your getting cooked outside it's good to see more companies doing everything they can to help. One of the ways is saving energy and while Vista and newer OS's have better power regulations and chips and computer components are using less and less power even though their getting faster is all great. But what most people don't realize is that any electronic component pulls power even when their off.. Some more than others, LCD's for instance even in standby mode can take a couple watts of power just to idle their ready to come on at a moments notice. Well not anymore if Fujitsu has their way, with the development of their first Zero Power standby mode that will allow future Fujitsu LCD's to perform a miracle. The miracle is that this LCD even when in standby mode will use as much power as a piece of wooden office furniture ;) That being, 0 watts of power! The technology seems...

Pystar's OpenMac desktop gets tested...
2008-05-01 05:17:00
And it's a mixed bag of peanuts apparently, this definitly isn't a machine that's going to fit in your Briggs and Riley luggage when you go moving cross country but it isn't a bad looking machine either. Also apparently according to Engadget's review theirs some definite issues with the hardware itself, nothing that will stop you from using it and speedily running a long with your frontrow goodness. But they did notice things that basically came down to incompatibilities with the motherboard and hardware they choose to use in the Pystar computers that isn't fully compatible with OSX out of the box. Such as the fan controller isn't working apparently so the fans run full speed all the time and make it a very very loud PC to deal with. As you can see they also found more incompatibilities that came into play when they tried to delve into the system preferences and memory checks... The non-compatible hardware while it was all working and performin...

Holy crap, an SATA drive that runs laps around... everything!
2008-05-01 05:01:00
You know the original Western Digital Raptor drives were nothing shabby at all with their sexy 10,000rpm spinning discs allowing for some great access times. But it's been nearly a year if not longer since the Raptor line of drives made a move... That is until now. Today ExtremeTech got a hold of the next generation of Raptor drives from Western Digital. The new drive fittingly named the VelociRaptor was put through its tests by ET and what they found was... well spectacular. In every test they through at the VelociRaptor just showed how it's like the Swiss Army knife of hard drives. Surpassing it's nearest competitor and brethren in every test and in some cases by a very large margin. That's saying a lot considering it's older brother used to be king of the SATA speed hill. You can catch the full benchmarks and test results at the source but you can pretty much just smile, because if you've got the cash ($299) you can get your hands on this sexy 10,000rpm god-drive now and...

Memory prices have plummeted lately, did you take advantage?
2008-04-26 21:05:00
I've been looking at upgrading my computer recently but I'm strapped for cash so I've been looking for a cheap way to upgrade and came across the Ram Memory Prices over at MemoryDeals. Holy crap when did a 2GB Memory Upgrade get so cheap, and beyond that when did memory just become damn near a throw away item. I mean when 512mb are cheaper than some dinners it's amazing. I cam remember a year ago when Computer Memory Prices were damn near the same price as a full upgrade of CPU and Motherboard, but now 4gb seems like it's priced that I really don't see a reason that every computer shouldn't have 4gb, even if they don't need it. More memory can never hurt and at the current prices in the market it's definitly awesome. MemoryDeals has a good bit but the fact is stores all over the Internet have great memory prices, it's just a good time for those that waited to upgrade to go out and start upgrading, and memory seems like a prime place to start. If your really smart you'l...
Clinton... The Joker... Just a little scary
2008-04-23 20:19:00
You know congratulations on the win Hilary, but you've really got to stop smiling like your insane. I'm serious look at the picture had she tilted her head down just an inch she would have been a dead lock for The Joker . Not exactly a character I want as president ;) She won Pennsylvania, but you know what shes ignoring, she had almost a 30-40% lead before the Ohio primary and even bigger before that... Barrack managed to lower the deficite to 10% in 5 weeks (he went on vacation for 1 as i recall to get away from all the attacks). All the while he was also fighting off her constant character assassination attempts on him. Not to mention the lies shes been telling like that whole Bosnia fiasco that she lied straight out about, and the story about the poor pregnant woman in Ohio that supposedly died. I give barrack credit, credit for making inroads into many of Hilary's key demographics and strengthening his own in what many have said in the past was a "state custom bred for ...

NDrive G800 GPS raises the bar, with REAL Aerial Photos
2008-04-23 06:19:00
You know something as mundane as a GPS system for a car has rapidly been getting more and more advanced over the last few years. It used to be just a crappy arrow that pointed around, then it was a map with arrows, then it was a 3d vector with 3d arrows and most even have voices to direct you. But NDrive has brought the UK and Ireland something that might be enough to make most other country's GPS owners drool. The new NDrive G800 GPS comes with something that to date I have never seen done in a GPS before. REAL PHOTOGRAPHY during navigation! As I said it's currently limited to the UK and Ireland but the fact they have all that aerial photography for the maps it's quite impressive. It's another thing to actually wonder how the hell they managed to get these side views of buildings of all of the UK. I mean on Gizmodo someone said its probably just sat imagery. But it's not as you can see in the image above, it's shown at a sort of 3/4th view like the new birds eye on windows...

Dell goes insane and readies UBER SEXY PC!
2008-04-23 06:05:00
Ok this came out of the blue, Dell released pictures of a Green PC that is hands down Dell's smallest ever computer and at the same time it's most power conservative PC to date. The desktop itself is 81% smaller than their average desktop, and 70% less power hungry. Now from this picture to the left you can't really tell just how small and sexy the PC is in it's Uber environmental bamboo casing. But if you take a look below you'll see just how sexy this new PC is, it's small sexy and dare I say I want it more than even a iMac or AppleTV. As you can see it's definitly a very sexy unit, combine it with a high DPI monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse like you see here and WOW it looks great! Ok ya the cables are missing so it will be a little more cluttered on your desk but still this PC shows that Dell is taking a turn for a real, much better design, that would fit in office space Connecticut prepsters would even be proud to own. I say Connecticut because I have a few b...

Cat 5 wedding rings, so nerds can "couple"
2008-04-22 14:38:00
Nerd's really are kind of ridiculous because only a nerd would ever thing of doing something like this, and what's funny is I'm now officially a full on nerd even if the blog didn't already give that away because I actually find the idea kind of wicked. The item I'm referring to is a wedding ring set that comes with male and female Ethernet jack/plug combo. While it might look kind of funny, and kind of makes me think of the part from that cartoon when they say "wonder twin powers combine" and then of course it goes off course in my mind as the Ethernet clips in and they get stuck. But it's definitly an interesting idea, and while even my sorta geeky girlfriend might find it funny. I don't really forsee anyone using these as real wedding rings. One thing that doesn't differ from standard wedding rings is the slightly overpriced nature of the package at $175, which I suppose is fine, but quite a bit for a gag gift. Now if that wasn't funny enough and ridiculous enough...

Thank god, Medium and Large affordable OLED's in 2009-10!
2008-04-22 14:29:00
Ok news coming out from Samsung is that it's time to start getting excited, why? Well according to Samsung 2009 and 2010 will be the year that Medium and Large OLED panels will start hitting mainstream and respectable prices. You might recall that Samsung debuted their 14 and 31 inch OLED panels at CES, so I'm taking Medium and Large to mean 14 and 31 inch displays. The drop in pricing and wide availability will be due to Samsung hitting 3 million OLED panels produced in 2009 and a whopping 6 million panels in 2010. FINALLY MASS PRODUCTION! This all comes as very good news considering a lot of techies have actually probably considered blowing their bank on the $2,500 Sony XEL-1 that's only 11". But with mass production and wide availability this means that Samsung should be able to push that price way down, and in turn force Sony to lower its prices and start releasing larger panels. The race to wide availability of OLED's at 42" is on, and in turn the race to replace both...
Sony's Playstation home, looking great, but delayed!
2008-04-22 14:15:00
As you can see from this and pretty much every image and video that has been posted on the subject of Playstation Home , it definitly is a sexy new feature for the Playstation 3, not quite something I'd deem a system seller, it's not going to drive console sales through the roof but it's definitly unique. Many have said its something Sony is trying to give Playstation users as a distraction from the fact that their aren't enough games, or differences from their competitors games to really warrant the higher price and craziness caused by the Sixaxis vs Dualshock 3. But it looks like Sony's "Second Life that doesn't suck" will have people waiting longer than was first expected. Sony has announced that they will be growing the beta of the service in Summer 2008, but that a open beta of the service won't be available until well into Fall 2008 with a final version to come some time after that, no real expectations if the world will grow for those betas or stay the current size, ...

Fujitsu releases a iMac'ish PC, that's... better? WTF
2008-04-22 14:03:00
Ok this one is unique, an iMac styled PC that actually has a few features to put the old iMac to disgrace... interesting. Fujitsu 's new FMV F-A50 definitly takes some design tips from the old white iMac design which I have no complaints about cause it looks sexy. However I can't quite tell if it's the studio indoor lighting or if it really is just that sexy but from the images of the F-A50 it actually looks a touch sexier than the old iMac's surprisingly. The new F-A50 runs windows not Mac but you'd have to look twice if it wasn't on with the desktop showing to really tell. But this isn't a direct copy oh no, this is a younger slightly sexier cousin to the iMac. Their are things the same such as the color, and slot loading DVD Drive which is great. But they differ a bit in one important aspect that makes the Fujitsu a tad better than the iMac. What some might argue to be a sexier sturdier stand, coupled with the bonus features of it being tilt adjustable as well as height a...
Ben Wilson's monocycle... need I say more?
2008-04-22 13:55:00
You remember monocycle's, they probably got the most notice on south park but in the nastiest and gayest of ways... considering it was powered by front and rear dildos... ya ok I won't go into details on that and how disturbing I was. Well shown at an exhibition in Tokyo this new Monocycle wasn't designed like that and would come with saddles of some sort for our hinney not a protruding instrument that requires ... never mind. As you can see from the image to the right and more images at the source, Ben Wilson's one wheel wonder is quite stunning and simplistic. Ben says he's been a fan of bikes and propulsion ever since his first bike with out training wheels, and he's been developing bikes just about ever since with several other bike designs under his belt he took this years XXIst Century Man exhibition to debut the monocycle which was curated by Issey Miyake to show off the new monocycle and will be at the expo until July 6th for others to view. Personally while i...
HTC Spy shots reveal a crap load of new phones
2008-04-21 05:41:00
Some spy from the abyss has turned up a spyshot that makes for some interesting viewage. The shot is of a 8 new and upcoming HTC phone models, we currently have no idea has these phones slipped out long enough especially in a nice rectangle perfect for photographing but you can't look a gift horse in the mouth. It's kind of funny that a company that makes phones with cameras seems to be a victim of its own products. As the low quality of the spy shots pretty much guarantee's its a camera phone shot, unless the guy had a spy camera inside his pair of Naot shoes or something, but that seems a bit overkill and since he's at HTC theirs an over abundance of camera phones lieing around :). The spy shot shows some phones that we already know such as the TyTn II, Touch Cruise and the Touch that we see along the top. But as you move down they're a bit more scarce on the information currently available. Except for the second from the left that is the P3470. With HTC holding the bi...

Another day another headache on my way to marriage...
2008-04-21 05:19:00
You know getting married is really an oddity, theirs a lot of excitement about the whole thing but it turns out actually getting married is pretty insane. Especially if your not in the top 5% of the pay bracket and can afford to pay someone else to do all the heavy lifting. As it turns out I'm currently not in that bracket nor is my fiancee, but we're doing our best to put together our wedding albeit its going to be a small wedding. But it seems its one headache after another for us planning it, first the Census office never answers the phone so we have 3-4 weeks of just trying to reserve a spot for the date we want to get married on, then the lady that was supposed to handle the reception wanted to charge us 1500$ extra just for making a few calls and setting up some flowers. Needless to say after a week of dealing with her we told her to take a hike. Now that we have the date set, both locations booked for the wedding ceremony (immediate family only at the government offic...

Why, oh why, Xbox Live on Dial up! WTF
2008-04-21 05:06:00
You know I have a pretty decent DSL connection and even I get the occasional lag on XBL, especially when people with crappy connections get online. But this just takes the cake for stupidity. Someone has posted up on Instructables how to get online with Xbox Live using DIALUP! WTF! I mean I can imagine a lot of things that just don’t make sense on Dial Up... Watching videos, streaming music, alarm system monitoring, pretty much anything thats fun or that needs bandwidth... but most of all ... XBOX LIVE!?! What are they thinking, are people really that desperate for their new rock band soundtracks, and extra areas for oblivion that they will go through all of this just to get on XBL via Dial Up! That begs the question if your going to be downloading 400-500 meg downloads and 1+GB demos, why the hell don't you just pay the 30-40$ a month and get a proper Cable or DSL connection. Then you can actually play online as well as not wait 1-2 months for that new area of Mass Effect to do...

2010 gets another cool breakthrough, Water-powered cellphones
2008-04-19 05:45:00
Well it seems that 2010 really will be an awesome time for technology, in the past year or 2 their have been a number of research projects that have said 2010 is the year they will come to frutation in the retail market. But Samsung just added one that will make pretty much everyone smile, Water Powered cell phones! Yes you read that correctly, if your on a camping trip with your cell and it dies, just add some more water from your travel supplies and tada its back on running again! Samsung isn't a company that starts announcing things like this and especially with dates and not having the technology to back it up and make it happen. The Samsung engineers currently say the system provides around 10 hours of talk time, which equates to about 5 days of usage on one fillup of water. The system is a sealed system currently but they plan to eventually make it possible to top up from any water supply. The details are currently a bit sketchy beyond the fact that it's coming sooner tha...

VIA's Isaiah better than Intel Atom? Maybe...
2008-04-19 05:38:00
Intel's Atom is said to be very cheap, and it's also going to be relatively fast vs other ultra mobile processors. I mean they were talking under 40-50$ for all the Atom Chips, something that's definitly a good move considering the state of the US dollar due to the real estate market. But how does the performance work out vs it's nearest competitor. VIA is planning to release it's new low power offering codenamed the Isaiah . It's still very early to tell you who will be the king of speed in the ultramobile marketplace. But for Intel's sake I hope that EeePC News' very early FPU/ALU speed test isn't continued into the standard tests that eventually follow for every processor. Because the Isaiah destroyed Atom in these initial tests. Hell even the Celeron-M got crushed by the Isaiah at the same clock speed. This definitly gives VIA some bragging points, but as I said this is a very preliminary test. Time will tell if the Atom processors will eventually have the last lau...

AMD's Shanghai gets ready to open fire on Intel, with 12 cores!
2008-04-19 04:57:00
Well with all the momentum Intel has been gathering lately with the success of their Core2 line of products one might forget that AMD's still pumping out some contenders. Sure none of the recent chips have really been competing or winning many competitions. But from recent news it looks like the next generation of chips might try to even up the score or perhaps surpass intel. AMD's upcoming Barcelona will be a great chip, but it's not what has the techies going nuts. The one that has everyone excited is one that will eventually compete against Intel's Six-Core Dunnington chips. The 45nm Shanghai will be packing Hypertransport 3.0, to improve communication between the chips and dies. But the biggest news comes in the fact that during Shanghai's late 2008 debut. AMD plans to release something massive... A twin-die version witha  total of 12 cores connected via Hyper Transport 3.0. Now while we won't see benchmarks or much more info for a while, 12 cores at 45nm with ...

Intel's Skulltrail QX9775 hits the 6GHz mark, and smiles :)
2008-04-19 04:48:00
No your eyes are not decieving you that says Quad Core Intel Core 2 Extreme... 6GHZ PER CORE! I know I did a double take as well, it appears that Intel's new Skulltrail platform, that sounds more like a name for a drug that makes people desperately need some drug rehabilitation. While we've seen 6ghz hit before in some extremely crygenically frozen P4 variants. Those old P4's weren't sporting all the way up to SSE4.1 Instruction sets. The system as i said is based off of their QX9775 Quad Core 64bit capable 3.2ghz processors, he has it pumped up to some massive FSB speeds (1.7ghz) and the voltage is almost hitting 2V. But hey if you want real speed you have to feed the beast! Source: Engadget

Papyrus ebook... just another concept to make us drool
2008-04-19 04:41:00
You know theirs been some sexy e-book designs sporting everything from touchscreen oled's to eink displays, and the occasional rollable touchscreen oled e-book. But the sad state of affairs no matter how cool the new Papyrus e-book looks, don’t expect to be reading Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the Westy by Benazir Bhutto any time soon because as seems to be the trend with every e-book we see it's just a concept. Amazon seems to be the only one to even try to make a move, but where the hell are the sexy full color e-books for 100-200$ that we really want! But hey, it's still good to dream isn't it? Todays ultra sexy, probably never gonna see it in walmart design is the Papyrus e-book from Greener Grass. They have their sights set on students with the focus on completely replacing student's textbooks with a single e-ink based device that would cost less than 100$ while still offering full E-Ink based touchscreen technology and handwriting recognition. Processing website front end in development, Suggestions?
2008-04-12 05:41:00
I've been working on a few different projects, one of which is a new site to handle digital sales for some products that I've been developing. I was originally thinking of just using PayPal as the payment method on the site but I've grown to realize over time that... well... PayPal can really be douchebags when they feel like it and when they do their isn't much of anything you can do about it. So instead I'm planning to offer a single ASP.NET interface that will interface with several merchants and processing front ends so that my visitors won't be constrained to a set method of payment. I'm planning to utilize a Small Business Merchant Account from onlinecheck.com to take care of the credit card people since I just find that having to go through the entire PayPal fiasco to end up using a credit card is a bit of a run around. I'm also planning to build it around PayPal and the other traditional online methods like MoneyBookers but the point is to give options. The scrip...

Ben Heck strikes again, the PS3 laptop sees the light of day.
2008-04-12 05:23:00
Many of you might remember Ben Heck, the master of game hardware modifications. He was best known, at least to me for his Xbox360 Laptop , the very sleek and sexy. Well as is the case with many modders their not normally brand loyal, and this time it holds true with Ben Heck releasing the first images and video footage of his Playstation 3 Laptop. Like the Playstation 3 itself the Laptop comes in the shiny black case with metal trip to make it... well... playstationish. It's kind of funny when you think of it, these laptops from Ben Heck may be the only laptops in history that once you get them don't beg for some more laptop memory, no their perfect out of the box, including keyboard and screen, and the standard PS3/360 goodies. > > The PS3 laptop looks a good bit thicker than the Xbox360 Laptop I'm not specifically why... but on the bright side the PS3 laptop doesn't have to deal with the 360 power brick so that's a definite plus. Ben really did a great job sticking e...

Nikon releases the Coolpix P80, 18x SuperZoom... I groan
2008-04-10 06:33:00
You know one of these days I'm gonna learn a lesson, after buying something I need to either just close my eyes for a few months or get some roller shades for my eyes or something. You see it happens every time, I finally buy an iPhone and the month after theirs talk of a 5mp iPhone with 3g coming out just now. This month I decided to buy a good camera, the Panasonic FX18 super zoom. The only gripe I had with it was the fact that it only has 2-3fps bursts. Now Nikon goes and releases the P80 Coolpix that's sporting an 18x lens, ok it's not the nice Leica lens that the Panasonic comes with but still the Nikkor lens that comes with the Nikon is wicked as well. This new camera completely outperforms the FX18 I just ordered with 13fps maximum burst, ISO 6400 and a slightly larger LCD at 2.7". It does share some of the same features like redeye reduction and facial detection, but I suppose the one thing that would have killed it for me is I only wanted to spend 250-300$ and the ...
The future of airflight? Hydrogen Fuel Cell based!?
2008-04-05 05:50:00
What your looking at to the left might just be the future of flight, or at least whats inside of it might be to be more precise. With the rising cost of oil and jet fuel as well the Air industry is looking at alternative power sources just about as hard as the automotive industry is if not harder. With so many passengers at stake all demanding cheap flights in a world where prices to travel keep going up due to the constantly increasing fuel charges. In fact according to one of my shipping companies their jet fuel costs are closing in on TRIPLE their 2006-7 rates. The plane you see above is the prop driven aircraft that only has a single pilot seat but it did complete a 20 minute flight at 100km an hour at a 1km altitude. Not exactly magical, but what is is the fact it was powered by a hydrogen battery system not a standard power source. The 800 kilogram craft measured in at 16.3-meters of wingspan and with this new power pack is capable of 45 minutes of flight on a single hydr...

Every media format + a 3" screen = the AOC Awesomeness!
2008-04-04 05:39:00
AOC... A company that personally I have no idea who the hell they are but apparently their a Chinese firm that designs some pretty sexy PMP's, their latest of which doesn't have any cheesy gold bangle or other gimmick to make it look cheap, it sticks to simple and sexy. But why is a Chinese manufacturer news on NTN today? I mean we always knew that Chinese manufacturers sell cheap knockoffs of PMP's very often... Well it's pretty simple when you think of it, they put every format you can imagine into a sexy package with a 3" LCD. Besides having a very large 3-inch 400x240 resolution display, ok not as great as the still vaporware Meizu MiniOne that is supposed to sport a 720x screen. The big news comes is the fact that this sexy device sports full support for RM, RMVB, FLV, AVI, MOV, ASF, MP4, WMV, MPG, WMA, MP3, APE and FLAC files... along with a few others but those are the biggies. It also has the usual goodies like an FM tuner, Text and Photo viewer and 4GB of storage s...

An online automotive shop that works
2008-04-04 05:14:00
I recently made the mistake of going a full year without doing any maintenance on my car that resulted in some pretty significant issues from rusting to some car parts that got damaged. Now I'm busy trying to find cheap replacement parts for my Hyundai Accent online due to the fact that on Island prices are inconceivable, I'm talking a 400-500% markup on already marked up US retail prices. That's where DriveWire comes into play, I came across this site and have pretty much fallen in love, they've got everything for my car from the replacement gaskets to some more fancy and aftermarket style addon's. Best of all the pricing is under some of the US prices my mom saw when she went shopping in Florida for me. So needless to say I'm a bit excited. The site itself is well designed and works well, select a Make, Year and then your Model and it lays out all the parts available for your car in categories. Very easy and quick to use, and the engine you see above on their front home...

Get ready for the "SIXAXIS" to be obsolete!
2008-04-03 05:26:00
Well guys here's some quite embarrassing for all of you people that rushed out this last year and bought a PS3, and I feel really bad for those of you that bought extra controllers... Why? Because Sony's "best controller ever" and its "cutting edge design" are ... O B S O L E T E. Or they will be as of April 15th in the US as the SIXAXIS is obsoleted and the DualShock 3 hits the market and starts shipping with PS3's. Apparently the logo above will be gracing Rumble enabled games from now on and many older games will start releasing updates to enable rumbling. April 15th will see the DS3 go on sale throughout the US for $55. My big question is ... didn't Sony's exec's discount the lack of rumble in the SIXAXIS as "them strategically removing technology that was inherently ... 'last generation'" ... No instead of them admitting it was because they wouldn't fork out the cash to pay for the patents until they realized how much people missed rumble in their games, especial...

A new reason to visit AT&T.. MS Surface?!!? HOLY CRAP!
2008-04-03 04:58:00
Yes you read that right not only did AT&T get the iPhone first, it also seems to be the company getting ready to roll out several of the Microsoft Surface interfaces to a handful of stores on April 17th. The rollout will start in 12 stores across four cities. This is probably one of the perfect places for Microsoft to start rolling these 30" behemoths out to with it allowing users to throw down AT&T iPhones and compare them side by side feature wise and see what each is capable of in a VERY visual and hands on experience. Hell I don't like AT&T and I might go just to try it, actually if they had a massage chair and a refrigerator I know quite a few guys that wouldn't mind just sitting in the AT&T store all day playing with it! What's funny however is that this new marvel of electronics won't be fully compatible with one of Apple's last big acquisitions... The iPhone! No Don't blame Microsoft the fault lies with Apple and Apple alone, and their lack of willing...

Sheth's best web hosts listing
2008-03-28 04:53:00
I've been looking for some alternative hosts for some of my friends more risky sites that I don't feel hosting on my own server. Luckily I came across Sheth's site that lists some really great hosts that offer good deals on hosting. While I originally knew about Yahoo's hosting, he did introduce me to the one I'm planning on deploying for a few new sites named Host Monster. This is like the 5th time i've seen host monster listed in a best web hosting top list. It seems to make it to the top quite often do to the fact it's cheap, has good support as well as offers the usual suite of Cpanel and other necessities for hosting a php website. This is also going to help alleviate the need for me to install PHP on my server which is a windows server that I've been avoiding since the get go as I've been trying to keep the server streamlined and ASP.NET only.
