Exclusive Vodafone EG: Surf Internet for FREE!!
2008-05-27 20:57:00
I don't know if this trick works for all operators and mobile phones, but it's definetly working for me.  I've tested this on N80 and N73 on two different vodafone lines with prepaid plan.  I ran out of credit a couple of days ago, normally this would cause Internet and WAP Connections not to work. However, I remembered my brother telling me someday that he could logon to the Internet even though he got no credit, and the normal browser refusing to log on. I thought, ok this might have been just a coincidence, but I tried it anyway and surprisingly it worked! I do not guarantee this method will work for you and I'm not responsible for any paid charges you get for trying this. There goes how: Download and install Opera Mini 4.1. Go to settings and make sure socket connection is selected under Network. When asked for connection, do not choose VF Internet. Choose VF Live instead . Enjoy! Somehow also, eBuddy works.. I wonder if there is a method to route this connec...

Autocopy::Gallery->Computer
2008-05-22 01:12:00
I was working on my Haskell project when I remembered this amazing software that comes with Nokia PC suite. That's why any person familiar with Haskell would recognize this title as a type definition (function Autocopy that takes Gallery as input and outputs it to computer,  lol been working for too long ). Anyway, the software is called Image Store. It's so simple that all it does it copy images and videos from phone gallery to computer and I've decided to write a little guide for people who never used it. This is a very beginner's guide so don't expect anything big :) The main feature that I'm spotting the lights on in this guide is the autocopy feature. Imagine yourself on a trip, you took a lot of pictures using your N95 for example. Now you're home and you need to copy those images to your computer with the least effort. The only effort you'll exert when using this software is switching on Bluetooth. Yes and that's it! Once BT is switched on, voila, all images are...

New version of SymSMB
2008-04-15 01:32:00
Telexy Networks has released the 3rd version of their famous SymSMB. To be honest, this application is one of my very favoured applications. If only it doesn't fu** the battery up, I would have left it open and connected to my network forever. SySMB faciliates file exchange between mobile devices and personal computers via wireless protocols (Wi-Fi/WLAN, GPRS, HSDPA, 3G) with no extra software needed on PC. In the latest version they focused mainly on speed improvement, and according to their tests and results: SymSMB v3.50 is faster then SymSMB v2.00 on average by 34% The improvements of SymSMB v3.50 become apparent better on newer phones On the latest models of Nokia phones SymSMB v3.50, working over WiFi, beats USBv1! See same, Hear same, Feel same: Chinese fakes!
2008-04-07 20:09:00
Uptill now I have not seen any of the Chinese imitations in real. I only saw pictures of them on the Internet and I thought, If one of those got into my hands I'll spot it's fakeness immediately. However, I saw this video today on a chinese N95 8GB and I must admit that the Chinese have improved much. Now the firmware is almost an exact copy of original firmware too, except that I don't know it's real capabilities. Many people would certainly fall for those devices. Beware! There is this comment on a similar video on Youtube that will show you how worse things have become: SharedJoy said: "I bought 10 fake n95 from eBay.It cost me Australia $220, - each. You know what...., I sold them on 6 different pawn shop/second hand shop for AU$350,- each.Only one pawn shop owner refuse to buy from me because he knows it was fake. But the other 9 ....They didn't know. Surviving with a screenless phone
2008-04-01 04:54:00
How does it feel when you receive an SMS and couldn't read it? How does it feel to get a missed call and couldn't get to know the source? How does it feel to use a phone without a screen? If you recall my N80's condition I posted a couple of days ago, you should probably know it's getting worse. Screen is almost completely dead now. It's like being blind, depending on the sound of keypad tones all the time to dial a number, lock keypad etc.. I thought, there must be a way to access my phone's data through my computer. You know, at least messages and call logs. Then I remembered a program I never thought I will really need sometime; Nokia Beta Lab's PC Phone . It's a software that integrates itself in Internet browser, giving you the ability to use your mobile phone from it. You can call, text, and manage contacts from your phone - all through your PC! Well that's what Nokia Beta Labs says, I was successful downloading and installing the software and connected my N80. Eve...

N96: Last minute modification?
2008-03-29 18:33:00
As you most probably know, Nokia N96 was revealed in Mobile World Congress which took place some months ago. It came with the best of almost every single feature that has been out since the start of smartphones. All but one; a Xenon Flash. Nokia put the Xenon flash for the first time in the N82. In MWC, they decided it would be better to place a dual flash LED instead in the N96. Why? Because Xenon flash needs charging everytime it's fired, so it won't be able to function properly while video recording. On the other hand, Flash LEDs are okay with that, so to enhance flash they decided to put 2 LEDs instead of one. ===> IMO, I don't think Flash in video recording is that effective nor needed. It's more like an Indicator that a video is being recorded rather than an actual flash, and It can be replace by some smaller substitute if aside to Xenon if Xenon won't do the job.. However, a member @Esatu Forum has brought up news today that there might be some changes to the N96 we ...

My N80 situation
2008-03-29 10:26:00
Some time ago I posted a topic about how my gallery has been acting crazy. Sometimes I find it empty, other times I find clones of every picture, and eveytime it displays stuff that has no relation to images nor videos (application sources for example). To be honest, that was Heaven compared to my N80's condition right now. My N80 has reached a real critical condition; screen has been almost damages and buttons started to malfunction. Performing a task has become very frustrating. For instance, what are the steps needed to dial a number on a slide phone? Open the Slide Dial number Hit the call button Now, these are steps I go through everytime I dial a number: I open the slide, the screen turns blank. I have to wait till it regains it's conscious so I can dial. I dial but accidentally hit a wrong number, now I have to hit the "c" button to undo, but it won't work. I hit the red button but it won't work either. I have to close the slide to they would function. I close the s...

Carnival of the Mobilists
2008-03-26 01:10:00
As you most probably know, Carnival of the Mobilists exposes you to the very best posts of every week, all written about mobile and gathered together in a central place. You can read the summary on the host's site and click on any story that catches your eye. Each week, it'll be hosted at a different site, so you can visit the Carnival and experience both new writers about mobile, as well as all your old favourites. Everyweek, Judy Breck -the keeper of the tents- comes up with a beautiful intro for that week's carnival host, and as usual I copy this intro as it is and place it here without any modification. Actually, the above intro paragraph is a whole copy and paste from mobili.st (COM's home). This is maybe because I'm too lazy to come up with some of my own words, or because I'm sure they won't do better than Judy's intro, but she's ok with this as she mentioned in her latest Mobilists email. However, I decided to add her signature below each COM I announce here on Symb...
Your first J2ME Application tutorial:: HiTME!
2008-03-22 15:26:00
I'm bringing to you my very own first tutorial on how to create your first Java Mobile application along with the source code of HitME(my first java application) as a demonstration. At first sight you may think the tutorial is too long, but I promise if you follow it you'll find most of the operations are very easy, I'm only using a little detailed explanation that makes it longer. You'll also find an attached full source code of HitME..   Advice: Be little patient, and if there is some step that you don't get, skip it and copy it as it is and you'll get it later during the implementation. If not, I'll be happy to answer all your questions but don't give up, this could really be your first step to be a famous developer! Let's get started I assume you have a minimal background in java. Knowledge of methods, classes and objects is necessary. I also recommend using NetBeans IDE with mobility pack as the developing software. You also need to download and install some spec...

My first application :: Hit ME!
2008-03-17 17:34:00
I've been using Java for almost 2 years now and I finally decided to introduce myself to J2ME. It turned out to be much easier than I thought if you know the basics of Java and I was able to create this application to be my First. Hit me is a simple application that generates a random number everytime you push the Hit me Button. This is my first application so feedbacks are very welcomed. Someone would ask, how could this be useful to anybody? Well in fact, it's not that useful anyway, but one thing is that you can use it like a toss for example? You know, each person could generate a random number and the largest wins.. There are 2 versions: First one has almost no interface. Once you launch it, a number is generated then application closes immediately. Second one has the option to generate several numbers everytime you press "Hit Me". Download First version or Second version Let me know what you think :)

Cambridge Consultants today announced that it has secured a multi-million dollar contract with Florida-based xG Technology Inc. to design and develop their next generation VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) wireless handset.
