Does Australia need more active bloggers?
2007-09-27 14:43:00 I have found Australia ns are very straightforward in expressing their opinions and thoughts. It is surprising however, to find only a few thousand active bloggers in Australia. Pity!Meg in her Recounting Australian Blogs has posted these questions. I have been thinking to write on these lines for a while. So, Here are my thoughts. What ideas do you have for promoting Aussie blogs and bloggers?Telly (television) will be my first medium to promote blogs and blogging. Do a special episode (or a series) about Blogging in prime-time shows such as current affairs, today tonight.Running an advert on a newspaper is the next best thing. Even if we put together 50 cents each, we can publish an ad on the Sunday newspaper. The promotion lines could be .."Start a blog, Change Australia", "Express yourself with a blog" (dont laugh!).Running a "Great Aussie Blogs" contest and let the readers vote on blogs under different categories.Creating an awareness on different blogging media and platforms -... Why should you think different?
2007-09-21 07:35:00 So, you have been told by your parents, teachers, mentors to follow rules, regulations. To me, the first and final rule is .."There are no rules!" If you follow a rule in solving a problem, you will get only same results - like everyone who attempted before you! No wonder. I particularly liked the following advertisement campaign by IBM. "Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." "Think Diff erent" Advertisement - Apple Computers Think Different!...

Few things that we didn't know about Google
2007-09-19 02:34:00 The prime reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn't know HTML and just wanted a quick interface. Infact it was noted that the submit button was a long time coming and hitting the RETURN key was the only way to burst Google into life. Due to the sparseness of the homepage, in early user tests they noted people just sitting looking at the screen. After a minute of nothingness, the tester intervened and asked 'Whats up?' to which they replied "We are waiting for the rest of it". To solve that particular problem the Google Copyright message was inserted to act as a crude end of page marker. One of the biggest leap in search usage came about when they introduced their much improved spell checker giving birth to the "Did you mean..." feature. This instantly doubled their traffic, but they had some interesting discussions on how best to place that information, as most people simply tuned that out. But they discovered the ... Where is your idea?
2007-09-18 04:22:00 Do you agree that the value of information is declining. For example, we have easy access (often free) to information which once, we needed to pay for it (The accuracy of the information is a different matter!). So, we often bombarded with these information wave - baffling us to choose which is useful and which is useless. So, information is cheap, abundant. If you start giving information, no one will listen to you. Imagine, you go and tell in an interview that I know all the facts and figures and formulae etc. Will you get a job, you bet, you WOULD NOT! Because, the so-called vital information which you memorized in the schools, colleges are a mere WASTE. So, what next? Idea s. Your Ideas. Opinions. Your Opinions. This is an era where you will be valued on your ideas and thinking. These are the valuables you should develop and preserve. You have to absorb the information and develop your own views / ideas on that. If you write in an exam whatever is given in the textbook, what va...

The Story of NOKIA
2007-09-17 03:19:00 A short review of the book The Story of an Extraordinary Company that transformed an Industry Author: Dan Stanbock June, 1999 Newsweek headlines stated " The Future is Finnish". Reason? Nokia ! – a Finland company had emerged as global powerhouse in mobile communication. Traditionally, Finland's economy depended on forest resources (Do you know, still Finland is the most forested country in the world!). So, no wonder NOKIA started as a forestry based company making wood pulp, paper, ply wood. Then it moved into leather business. Finally, stormed into the mobile business and now it is the leader. Finland is now termed as "Wireless Valley". There are broadly two business divisions in cellular industry. One is infrastructure i.e, base station and switches and second is Mobile terminals or handsets. Nokia, from earlier days concentrated on both of these divisions and hence has a bigger understanding as a whole. NOKIA owes a lot to its CEO "Jorma Ja... More About: The Story

And you thought computers are smart!
2007-09-14 05:04:00 I came across an interesting program called "Thinking Machine". It is a Java based Chess game - where you will see the actual moves considered by the Computer before it actually moves it. Even though, I dont know much about Chess, the animation is fascinating! http://turbulence.org/spotlight/thinking/ chess.html Good, easy way to understand why Deep Blue was a BIGGEST challenge to Kasparov (By the way, I heard he has quit the game to enter in to Politics. How long will it take get a REAL AI machine

Don’t know what to blog next ? Here’s a solution
2007-09-05 20:14:00 Often writers (now, bloggers) experience a "writer’s block". A writer experiences a “writer’s block” when he struggles to find a knot or an opening prompt for a story (not knowing what to write next). It is natural everyone needs a prompt to kickstart our brain. I have a Web 2.0 idea - “Who are you?”
More articles from this author:2007-09-03 23:39:00 With Twitter, you answer “What are you doing?”At 43 things, you say, “What you want to do?”At WAYN, they ask, “Where are you now?”Now, I propose a new idea for another web service. Answer a simple question, “Who are you?”Huh, you don’t say a thing. Let your friends say all about you. Let your friends add tags (sort of one-word testimonials) on you saying, ‘sexy’, ‘brave’, ‘good guy’, ‘SOB’, ‘BS’ or whatever. Part this idea is inspired by the movie “Citizen Kane”. What if we sit back and ask our friends to describe us. We can borrow a dictionary of adjectives; let the users tag their friends. We need not develop this as a web service (enough of existing social networks), this service can be developed as a facebook application.Ok, you heard this idea from me. But, I no nothing about programming or APIs (I know there are geeks out there, come on!). I can give more details on this idea, we can develop a cool widget.Wants to get famous, Precious?...
