The African Lion Facts
2007-10-01 15:35:00
Can a cat be used as a means of execution in an already blood-stained arena? Can a cat serve as a mascot for an American media company? Can a cat have its own animated movie portraying it as royalty? It can if it was an African Lion . The African Lion (Panthera leo krugeri) is quite possibly the most popular among the four ?Big Cats? (the others being the tiger, the jaguar, and the leopard). And who could deny it? You can definitely notice its presence: It is one big cat, with males weighing as much as five hundred and fifty pounds ? a sixth of the weight of the average passenger car. If you couldn?t see it, you will definitely hear it: Both the male and female lion are capable of roaring so loud that it can be heard around 5 miles away on the African plains. If you couldn?t see it, and if you couldn?t hear it, this lion can run and pounce to get to you instead: It can run at a maximum speed of 50 miles per hour, and it can leap over a gap as wide as 34 feet. 4 Endangered Animals in Africa: More Demand, Less Supply
2007-09-27 08:44:00
Picture yourself being in a zoo or any other sort of animal enclosure. If you ask around about the animals you see, there is a big chance that you will be told that most, if not all of them came from Africa . Movies and television series have us picture Africa as a picturesque continent full of wildlife, exotic plants, and a host of indigenous tribes with their own unique traditions and rituals. While this may be true, the continent is no stranger to the worldwide demand to keep up with the times. Therefore, Africa is also no stranger to the fact that there are certain species being pushed to the brink of extinction as an effect of urbanization. Share This

The African Wild Dogs - More Than Meets the Eye
2007-09-26 11:10:00
It can be said that no two snowflakes are alike. The African wild dog has the same characteristic; no two dogs have the same pattern of fur. If snowflakes can be given true appreciation when examined under a microscope, can this canine get the same praise after getting to know more about it? An African wild dog (Lycaon pictus), also known as Painted Dog, Cape Hunting Dog, Wild ehond (in Afrikaans), or Mbwa mwitu (Swahili), can be identified by its unique coat pattern consisting of irregular patterns of yellow, black, and white. They are comparable to German Shepherds in overall size, and they have large ears and long legs. Share This

Giant Mysteries - The Ancient Pyramids of Egypt
2007-09-25 09:58:00
Countless seafarers could have sighed in relief upon the first sight of the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Children could have gazed straight up in awe, dwarfed by the Colossus of Rhodes and the Statue of Zeus. Photographers may have wanted to capture the many colors around and within the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Historians would have been able to feel the devotion in the halls of the Temple of Artemis, and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The Seven Wonders of the World are gone? save for the Great Pyramid of Giza, the largest of the many pyramids of Egypt . Share This

Practical Travel Tips - How to Save Money Traveling on the Road
2007-09-24 15:19:00
When traveling, you may forget to bring your toothbrush, camera, or that shirt with the witty logo that you?ve been dying to wear in that certain place where nobody would recognize you. There is, however, one thing (besides your documents, of course) that you definitely would not want to leave at home: Money . The lack of it in the middle of nowhere has been the bane for many, and the excess of it has been a great relief for those who need the extra dollar for that souvenir they never found anywhere else. I fell in love with this photo because it captures the simplicity of the kitchen in my Africa n rural home in the 21st century…no fancy electric stoves..no complicated computerized fridges..no blenders..no electric dishwashers etc..just a few containers to get a meal prepared View other more spectacular African Safari Pictures here Share This
