Kenya Bouces Back after Elections
2008-04-04 09:53:00 Kenya went through the darkest period as a nation during the post election in Dec 2007 when violence broke out in various parts of the country after disputes arose as to who won the elections between the two main contenders for the presidency. After experiencing levels of violence never seen in the country, Kenya has suprisingly bounced back after 2 months. Normalcy has returned to the country and the two opposing leaders have agreed to share power 50/50 with the creation of a post of the Prime Minister. A new cabinet was named yesterday (3rd April 2008). Though their are still problems that need to be sorted out, in particular the issue of displaced persons that were affected in areas that encountered violence, I believe Kenya is headed on the right direction. Towards the end of March 2008, Naomi Campbell spent her holiday in Malindi, Kenya and gave glowing reviews about the country. During her visit in August, Ms Campbell had said she would meet representatives of modelling compan... More About: Elections , Kenya , Back

Kenya Elections - Post Election Chaos
2008-01-08 13:44:00 My country Kenya is one of the most peaceful countries in Africa and is often touted as a model of democracy for Africa. Kenya is also a hot tourist destination with fairly well developed tourism sector. On December 27th Kenyans went to the polls to elect their new president. The general election was hotly contested with two main contenders for the presidency ie, Mwai Kibaki(PNU) and Raila Odinga (ODM) By 30th Dec the two individuals were neck to neck in the tallying of the results and tensions were rising across the country. Mr Mwai Kibaki was eventually declared the winner which then triggered massive riots and social unrest across the country with the supporters of ODM claiming their was massive rigging. A lot of people have lost their lives across the country due to the unrest and thousands of families displaced due to tribal instigated clashes. As i write this post the situation has calmed down but a bit and the relief efforts are already underway to help the victims of the unr... More About: Elections , Post , Election , Chaos

The Great Wildebeest Migration Report - Free Download
2007-12-17 10:51:00 By now you must be well aware that the Great Wilderbeest Migration has been named as one the new Seven Wonders of the World. We did research and with the help of my great assistant Lynette, came up with this report that delves into much greater details regarding this spectacular natural phenomenon that occurs every year between Kenyan and Tanzania. This is one event that you will not want to miss when you tour East Africa. Millions of Wilderbeests, spurred on by natural instinct, begin to move from the Serengeti in Tanzania relentlessly tracked by Africa?s great predators and cross through the crocodile infested Mara River that borders the two countries to forage for food in Masai Mara covering a distance of over 1,800 miles. 2 Critically Endangered African Wild Animals
2007-12-04 12:42:00 Movies and television series have painted Africa as a picturesque continent full of wildlife, exotic plants, and a host of indigenous tribes with their own unique traditions and rituals. While this may be true, the continent is no stranger to the worldwide demand to keep up with the times. Therefore, Africa is also no stranger to the fact that there are certain species being pushed to the brink of extinction as an effect of urbanization. It is good to know that there are groups that push for the preservation of such species. The most notable organization devoted to this purpose is the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). One of its valuable contributions is the Red List, a detailed record of endangered plants and animals around the world. Species under the Red List are placed under categories which are defined based on actual population and factors affecting a species? decline, among other statistics. Here are two African Animals which are... More About: Wild , Endangered , Wild Animals
Queen Elizabeth?s Handshake
2007-12-03 12:15:00 The other day I saw an interesting cartoon in the local daily newspaper of Queen Elizabeth shaking hands with an Aids victim for the first time in Uganda. What was interesting was the cartoon putting emphasis on her hands where she wore black gloves as she shook the person’s hand. I think the subtle message that was being passed in the cartoon was that she did not want to “contaminate” her hands. The gloves might have been fashion accessories to complement her outfit but for some people they might have interpreted it differently. Queen Elizabeth was in Uganda to attend the Commonwealth heads of Government meeting. You can read the news item of her visit in Uganda here Share This More About: News
Brave Maasai Kills Lion with Club
2007-11-20 09:08:00 I came across this amazing article in one of the local daily newspaper in the office. A 35 year old man by the name of Moses Lekalau slew a lion over the weekend armed only with a wooden club. The report states that the Masai man was walking home on Saturday evening (17th Nov) when he was confronted by the lion. He struggled with the beast for half an hour before he finally killed it. Unfortunately, hyenas emerged from the bush after he killed the lion and started attacking him. Share This More About: Kenya , Lion , Club

Nearly a Third of World?s Primates in Danger of Extinction
2007-10-26 13:37:00 According to a report I’ve just read from the BBC website released by conservation groups, nearly one third of the primates existing worldwide might face extinction due to destruction of their habitats. The report, compiled by a team of 60 experts and presented at at the International Primatological Society (IPS) on the Chinese island of Hainan, reveals that Apes, Monkeys and primates are being pushed from their natural habitats or killed for food and medicines. Read more on the world primates report here on the BBC site. This report made me reflect on our mountain gorillas in Africa commonly found in Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The animals are classified as being critically endangered species and they get killed as a result of poaching, habitat loss and diseases. Over 10,000 Wildebeest Dead? Get the Facts Right Please
2007-10-12 12:04:00 I was watching the news yesterday evening (11th Oct) and their was one item that caught my attention. The reporter said that it was feared that over 15,000 wildebeest died as they tried to cross the crocodile infested Mara river during the annual migration. I did some research on the the internet and National Geographic and Time also claim over 10,000 of the animals died. To verify this I called Kenya Wildlife Service, http://www.kws.org and i had an interesting chat on cellphone with the PR guy handling this matter and he said the figures being reported were over inflated. He said the actual figures on the ground were about 3,000 drownings. He further added that every year they lose about 2,000 animals but this year it rose to 3,000. He said the probable cause was due to heavy rainfalls experienced over the country which caused the river to be swollen which resulted in the increased number of deaths in the river. 3,000 and 10,000..that a huge difference if you ask me The annual G... Hunting in Namibia - Regulations & Costs Involved
2007-10-04 10:44:00 I look at Namibia and i see a country giving you the best of both world’s. Its a country that is timeless and yet modern. The arid and desolate coastal Namib Desert is in stark contrast with the fertile wildlife pasture of inland Namibia. Its no wonder then that the raw beauty of the surrounding landscape teaming with wildlife surrounds Africa?s most modern metropolis next to South Africa. With its German architecture and contemporary highway systems, it almost seems out of place with the rest of the landscape. Share This More About: Regulations , Costs , Hunting , Hunt

The Culture & Life of Ancient Egyptians
More articles from this author:2007-10-02 09:19:00 I know that one of the most popular travel destinations in Africa is Egypt . If you are like me, you will be captivated by the ancient history of Egypt. Ancient Egypt was a powerful nation during the ancient times. Under the rule of Pharaohs, these ages of prosperity were divided into the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms, each separated by short periods of instability. During the aforementioned Kingdoms, balance was a priority to sustain the rate of progress of Ancient Egypt as a whole. This balance applied to the control and distribution of natural resources (as well as human resources) under the watchful eyes of the Pharaoh and his subordinate administrators. Agriculture, mining, communication, construction, commerce, security, and expansion were some of the many agendas that had to be thought over by the mentioned authorities, as they kept the people united and cooperative through an intricate religious belief system.
