I’m in el Dora do Arkansas today.  Its a nice little town.  I think I;ve talked about staying here before. I managed to sell 2 cases before leaving town which paid for my trip and interestingly enough I still haven’t gotten pulled over despite one of my tail lights not working.  I have 8 left to go.  Hopefully I can sell out of them today and go home. I decided to stay in a slightly nicer hotel this time and got a room in the La Quinta Inn.   Then I got in my room to find that the cable in my room didn’t work and  they had to move me.  They moved me into a room down by the front office with its own little patio  by the pool.  Last night I sat on the lawn furniture to play cards on the lap top and stopped occasionally to jump in the pool.   I’m really hating the fact they they had to move me, ha ha.

Are you a social person? I’m definitly a social person, but then again I’m a salesman, I’m supposed to be social. I like to meet new people, make new friends. I also have a bad habit of trying to set my single friends up with other people. Something they don’t always appreciate, but my intentions are good. Just Say Hi is a Free Online Dating site. Sign up is easy and only takes 60 seconds. Well, I guess that really depends on your type speed. Having Auto fill I’m sure would make it go a lot faster. It definitely is faster than most of the other online dating sites I’ve seen. Back when I was still single I signed up or one and I must have spent an hour or longer filling in all of the information they required. What I like about Just Say Hi is that it provides a free matchmaking site that offers all other priced or free dating sites provides.

Finding a good movie to watch is never an easy thing to do.  Its so expensive to go out anymore you find yourself wondering if your money is going to be wasted by watching something you would have rather seen on video.   Many people  turn to movie reviews on the internet in order to determine which movies are worth watching. These Southerners have a strange way of reacting to a little bit of snow.

Almost half an inch of snow fell on Little Root, Arkansas this week. This unseasonable storm resulted in severe hardship in the area and has baffled meteorologists and banjo players alike.The telephone line was down for several hours and the electrical outlet for the area was not functioning. At last report, a power line was being run from the State Capital, to service the area. Work on the project commenced immediately and should be finished sometime in July. So far 25 extension cords have been strung together and only 180,000 more are required. To care for the injured the hospital and crafts store remained open for an extra three and a half hours Wednesday and citizens flocked to an impromptu blood donor clinic in the back of Jethro’s Auto Body Shop. Arley’s book store loaned their magazine to the clinic so that if any of the donors were able, they would have something to read. whats with all of the tire trouble I’m having this year.

Tomorrow I return to work. While on the road friday i had another accident. This time the tread came off of my tire and flipped around in such a way that is tore off part of the plastic bumper on my Rav4 and busted out my driver side taillight. I managed to get a used replacement tire for 35 dollars but replacing the taillight and the bumper is going 300 just for the parts. I ordered them from the Toyota place today and my father in law and I are going to try and put them on. Don’t worry my paint isn’t ruined. I got all of that off with the cleaner that I sell. The paint wasn’t damaged at all. The problem is my tailight does not work period. I am pretty good at talking my way out of a ticket so maybe it will be ok. Tomorrow I’m off to North Little rock. In this video Bush proposes a 1500 dollar tax credit to families who are self employed like my wife and myself so that we can afford health insurance. This is a man who clearly has either never had to pay for his own insurance or never had to worry about being able to afford health care. That 1500 dollar tax credit for families means that you would have 125 dollars a month to spend on health insurance. That might buy you a family policy with a 5000 dollar deductible. Maybe 2500 if you can find a really really good deal. Once again if you can’t afford the deductible your insurance is worthless. This ridiculous idea is not going to help Americas uninsured anymore than it does now.

Yankee Salesman in North West Arkansas

Today is a work day for me. The first since Wednesday or Thursday of last week. I can’t remember now. Yesterdays order arrived with no problems. Since there is not enough week left to go out of town I decided to head up scenic byway 7 and then west traveling up along the North ern border or Arkansas . I hot all of the little towns along the way and finally made it to Eureka Springs. My wife’s favorite place in the world. If we ever win the lottery were going to be moving there.  I ended up with a pretty good day.  Enough to pay the bills and have a little bit left.  enough to go out tomorrow anyway. Eureka Springs is a great place to visit if you don’t live very far away. My cleaner order gets here today, yeah!!!  Then its back on the road for me tomorrow.    I won’t be going out of town over night this week.  its just to late in the week.  I would be driving all day Wednesday and only have Thursday to really hit doors since it is so late in the week. My chemists secretary nearly screwed up my day again!!!  That woman is freaking clueless.  I left my order with her once and made it perfectly clear it needed to be at the warehouse by Friday and she shipped it on Friday!  I had other salesman working for me at the time too and they lost time they could have been selling.  When you have people with families working for you it can be really disastrous to not have anything for them to sell. My shipment was supposed to be here today!  I called them last week and set the order up specifically for today because I was playing golf with the mens group at the church yesterday.  My wife and kids can’t exactly unload 36 cases of cleaner b...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

My wife is a huge harry Potter fan. She is also a pagan and a practicing witch so I guess thats to be expected. We went to see the Harry Potter movie yesterday. We were glad to be able to go because were both recovering from colds (they suck in the summer) . We won’t go if one of us is sick and coughing a lot because we don’t want to ruin the experience for the people around us. its a pity more people don’t see it that way. I have heard some bad reviews for the movie. My wife and I don’t usually pay a lot of attention to reviews because we rarely agree with them once we watch the film and this was no exception. The movie was really good just as they all have been. I was really thrilled to see Umbridge get carried off by the Centaurs toward the end of the movie. I am back from my trip safe and sound.  I only managed to sell one case yesterday.  Its enough to make it through the weekend and out of town next week though and thats what counts.  I thought I had 3 of the 4 cases I had sitting at home sold but I called the business owner and he told me he still had two gallons of cleaner left and not to worry about it.  Crap!  I was really counting on getting rid of 3 of those last 4 cases.  Now I am covering the cost 5 1/2 cases on my order at 60 dollars a piece.   I really did not want to have to do that.  My wife wanted to get anew vacuum cleaner this weekend.  Thats the main reason I didn’t want to have to do that.  Now she will have to wait. My wife and I are both hopeless animal lovers and my wife is good at figuring out whats wrong with an animal that is sick or injured and has an extensive knowledge of herbal medicine.  As you might imagine when end up adopting a lot of animals, nursing them back to health and finding ho...

I don’t know why it is but for some reason when i am out on the road away from home like this my first day of sales will be awesome. So awesome that I may only have 2 or 3 cases left the sell the next day. But on my second day I can’t seem to get rid of those last couple of cases. It never fails. My wife has suggested that maybe its because I am in a hurry to get home on the second day. I am usually just about sold out and made my profit and ready to get home, but since I went ahead and made my order I had to cover the cost of the cases I had left and that only left with with about 200 dollar profit. 200 dollars profit is not enough for this week. I have a cable bill due today that will swallow up all but 20 dollars of that. I was really hoping to get rid of these last few cases earlier than this.  I have a 6 hour drive home ahead of me.

I am now slowly working my way toward Pocahontas Arkansas (yes there is such a place).  My mother-in-law has family there and I plan to spend the night at “Uncle Larry’s” home rather than get a hotel room.  I have to love her southern family.  When friends and relatives come to visit from out of town it is expected that they stay with who they are visiting.  Not only is it expected but if you don’t stay with them there going to be insulted!! There are a number of rumored reasons for the name of Pocahontas  Arkansas.  My favorite is that the Native American woman’s body is buried under the Court house.  None of those rumors are true.  I still have yet the hear a reason for the town being called Pocahontas though.  The town has grown a lot since my mother-in-law lived there, but then most of these small southern mountain towns have grown a lot.  Its not really a place you would want to spend your vacation unless you were visiting relatives there...

Well sometime during the night as my wife was linking this new blog up to a bunch of directories something went terribly wrong with the template that she couldn’t fix so were using this one for the moment. She really isn’t sure what to do about the problem. I think she plans on deleting the old template and re installing it later. In the mean time I have a 9am appointment and a morning full of other appointments today. If today follows the trend I will have sold out of just about everything by the end of the day. I only have 4 cases of cleaner left at home so rather than have Lucy bring it up to me i may just try and cover there cost and go home with what I have and make an order.

Well it was still a nice long wet drive to Mountain Home which is where I ended up.  I sold a hotel there 3 cases last time i worked up here and worked a discount on the hotel room into the deal.  I”m only paying 27 dollars a night.  I worked this afternoon in Mountain home in the rain.  I smoke and I leave the window cracked when I have a cigarette lit.  it was raining but there wasn’t enough of a space for the rain to really come in.  Then on my passenger side a truck drove by me while I was waiting for the light in the turning lane.  He hit a huge puddle of water next to me and sent a wave of it crashing over the top of my vehicle and running straight through the crack in that window.  I went through the afternoon looking like I peed my pants.

I loaded up my car last night and planned to head down south this morning. I stopped at CarMart before leaving to talk to a friend who will be joining the military soon and to see if they have anything larger I could carry cleaner in. CarMart might overcharge for there vehicles, but there payment plans are much more practical for me since my income can be so varied and can stop all together in the months of December and January.  There are not to many dealerships out there that will allow a person to stop making payments completely for two months and then just pick up where they left off after that. Not all buy here pay per lots will let you do that but CarMart does. They had a 1/2 ton van there that looked good. Its god low mileage and its very clean inside. its a gas Guzzler but all vans that size are. The advantage to this gas guzzler is its got a hitch on the back and I can carry 30 cases of cleaner in it. This would allow me to take trips much farther out of state for ...

Its dropping here too

The cost of my gas comes out of my profit. This is true for all traveling salesmen. I used to use 10 to 15 dollars worth of gas a day but now little Toyota rav 4 with its 10 gallon tank costs me 30 dollars or more per day of travel. So falling or rising gas prices are always news to me. California is not the only place that gas prices are dropping at though. My wife bought gas at the Wal-Mart gas pumps for 2.77 a gallon.

A flooded harvest

Texas is usually a good place for a traveling Salesman to work. Most crews head down that way in the winter to avoid the snow that causes so many accidents up North, Therefore usually by midsummer the whole state is ripe for the picking for a salesman already located in a neighboring state. But just as with Louisiana, events like this really ruin the crop!!
