SOMETHING WAITING FOR AVIATION SECTOR
2007-08-22 19:39:00
GOM is planning to draft a new policy for aviation sector. The issues to be included for discussions are – 1. GOM is planning to ease out polices and rules for Indian airlines to fly abroad. The scheduled airlines can run on international routes after 3 years of operating as domestic airlines. 2. To open the gulf route for other players which currently are the monopoly market of Air India. 3. To ease out rules for foreign airlines to fly into India. 4. 100% FDI for merchant airports. 5. Sharing of airspace between civil and defense aircraft. 7. Modernization of 35 non-metro airports, 8. Route dispersal guidelines expected to be changed. 9. Under new policy the air traffic control is to be corporatized 10. Setting up the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) for regulation of airport charges. 11. The amendment of the Aircraft Act 1934 to enhance the powers of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation . These are issues which want to be included in new aviation policy, let’...

Objective of the hoarding was to highlight the Image makeover of Jet Airways. It was done to reposition the airlines as an int'l airlines. The theme of the ad shows that the airline has changed...bt, some of the issues which i feel left uncovered were, as the airline changed its logo it has not been given much attention. If the size of logo would have been big enough then, the hoarding would have been much more effective. now, if some1 gives a simple look to it, its hard to find out which co. has is it for. even, the name of co. is written in very small, it should hv been big & bold.the message is nt so clear, wat could hv been, at least wat 1 can expect from Jet Airways. now, it looks sm kind of cool stuff in a frst look, the logo & co. name is visible, the message is clear for Kingfisher. they hv positioned the billboard right over the jet's hoarding, the msg. given is clearly understood. bt, wait 1 questn...is this ethical frm a brand like Kingfisher??? i mean the wat they h...
No Small aircraft @ Delhi...
2007-08-16 09:23:00
On the eve of Independence day the Business-Standard published a news on front page regarding not allowing small aircrafts @ Delhi Airport... the excerpts from the news--> Delhi Airport will not allow additional smaller planes from winter of 2007-08, these aircraft include ATR's, Bombardiers, Embraers & Sukhoi Superjet 100. DIAL's decision maight be followed by GVK grp-controlled Mumbai Airport (MIAL). Small aircraft movements (landings & take-offs) account for 10% of the 650 aircraft movements a day. the industry estimates that with thee regional airlines policy, at least 150 movements of small aircrafts will b added in the nxt 12 months. The Govt.'s policy to encourage connectivity, most of these aircraft (below, 40,000 kg) do not pay landing charges to the airports. this move is expected to act as a dampener for the Govt. recently announced policy to encourage regional ailrines. DIAL is also considering a move to impose landign charges on smaller planes currently landing i...

The new begining with Merchant Airports !!!
2007-08-11 23:21:00
With so much of buzz regarding Indian Aviation, hw can the Airport infrastucture can b (left) behind...from privatisation to PPP models. here comes the merchant airports...They have been conceptualized as airport infrastructure entirely in private sector with private resources and with no Government funding. The entrepreneur will set up and operate airport on the basis of commercial viability subject to the safety and security oversight of the Government. Such a proposal would dispense with the requirement for investment of Government resources and therefore, a more liberal and only a license based approval procedure could be considered. It is proposed to allow 100% FDI in such airports.‘Merc hant Airports ’ would be totally built by private companies, land being a State subject, the assistance of State Government would be necessary. Similarly, facilitation by the Central Government in terms of clearances from Defence, Environment etc. would be essential besides the regulatory ove...

Jet Airways repositioning...
2007-08-11 23:07:00
how can i be so mean that, i forgot my fav. airline about its repositioning & image makeover by having new logo & new cabin crew uniform...even i never mentioned about the Mumbai-Brussels-New York Flight started by it on Aug. 05... may be bacause, i got complance that Jet already offers World Class service & Air India till date used to stand no where in frnt of it...well its always "better late than never", i hv cm up with smthing regarding the new look of the airline... In order to reposition Jet Airways as an int'l airline, it has gone in for an image makeover. the new look of uniforms for cabin crew has been designed by Italian designer Roberto Capucci. The new logo has been inspired by a dupatta, to give a touch of India to its new international look. The airline has also installed newly designed seats and cabins for its economy, first and business class travelers and state-of the art in-flight entertainment systems for long haul international flights. Jet Airways decid...

Finally the Regional Airlines...
2007-08-11 21:38:00
yesterday's newspaper were full of the news regarding Regional Airlines , bt, none of them gave an insight wat is the complete scenario for that...i thought to do sm research & came up with the following-->The Ministry of Civil Aviation has introduced a separate category of permit - Scheduled Operator Permit for Regional Airlines. As per the notification of the Ministry: A separate category of operator permit will be introduced i.e., Scheduled Operator Permit for Regional Airlines. This will be applicable for both fixed wing and helicopter operators. These airlines would be called as Regional Airlines. To qualify for the permit, the applicant Company should undertake operations primarily between airports of any of the four regions – North, South, West and East/North East. The airports in the region would be as defined by the Airports Authority of India for their respective regions. On grounds of operational and commercial exigencies, the companies would be allowed to operate fli...

The re-branding & positioning of Air India !!!
2007-08-09 22:47:00
As a marketing student, I thought to apply some marketing funda’s. That’s how I came up with an idea to find something on re- branding & positioning of Air India . The process of re-branding took place in 2005. DMA Branding a division of Aliagroup was given the task of re-branding the airline. DMA branding has done projects for many products & companies like Dabur, Ayush etc. The steps in the way to re-branding of Air India- Dropping of hyphen from its , name i.e. from “Air-India” to “Air India”. Tagline “Fly Well” adopted. Designing the seats (by DMA). New uniform (new look to traditional sari) designed by Ritu Beri. A graphic swan with Ashoka Chakra design. The positioning for Air India has been focused as a quality & premium traffic airline. The coverage of its new avatar has got excellent media hype. Advertising & Public relations have communicated its new image. Now, it’s the turn of word-of-mouth publicity. Air India is also planning to enter t...

The Mind “Googling” Problem of Mumbai Airport …
2007-08-07 21:09:00
Why I used the word “Googling ” here because as Google find out search results, similarly the problems at Mumbai Airport has also some solutions may be correct or not, only time will tell. The forecast says it all that passenger traffic at Mumbai airport will increase to 50mn by 2012, so the need for a bigger airport has arisen. But, the current airport cannot be increase to that extent, so as to handle such a huge increase in passenger traffic. The solution lies in the form of airstrip @ Thane district (35km approx. from Mumbai). The plan is to transfer the smaller aircrafts from Mumbai to Thane airstrip and the larger aircrafts will be handled at Mumbai airport. The Mumbai airport has 88 night parking bays for planes, of which 24 are used by smaller aircraft. Small aircraft clogs traffic and the time they take in terms of navigation and runway use also reduces the speed. So if they (small aircrafts) are transferred to some other place then the space vacant can be used for bigge...

The all – round development of Indian Aviation…
2007-08-07 20:54:00
First came the open sky policy of 1990’s, which gave a boom to full-service carriers, then it again started with Air Deccan as country’s first LCC, then came the modernization of Int’l airports, followed by Non-metro Airports, then came the regional airlines which is now followed by development of nearly 300 airstrips all over India & the latest trend or I can rather say craze in Indian Aviation is Cargo Airlines…Air India has already started its cargo operations with two aircrafts…Jet Airways may also come up with a unit which will be dedicated to only cargo business…some of the upcoming cargo airlines are –-> Flyington Freighters. It been promoted by Deccan Chronicle Holding & will be based in Hyderabad. It will have scheduled operations to various overseas destination. Its fleet will include a mix of A-330-200F’s & B-777 freighter’s. If everything goes according to plans, having an A-380 in the fleet is also on cards…then comes Aryan Cargo Express. It will...

Air India ‘Mumbai to New York’…wats there!!!
2007-08-01 21:11:00
The inaugural flight to New York is about to take off in an hour or two & I was wondering wat is so spl. for Air India ’s flight frm Mumbai to New York…I mean every airline starts operatin on new routes… every newspaper I read, every channel I see there’s only this coverage… then why so much of hype for this sector, actually I would say good media hype … till now, not a single American city figures on the listing of the 10 busiest airline routes from India… Air India, which gets 70% of international revenues through Gulf flights, the US foray is a return to the Western world as well as a defensive move because competitors like Air Deccan may b allowed to enter the Gulf route in the future… All international carriers put together flew about 4 m passengers last year between the two countries. The only trump card Air India has got is its non-stop capability and unbeatable timings on the route… the timing chosen for this route is fabulous that means a passenger will boa...

GAGAN--> GPS-satellite Aided Geo Augmentd Navigation system...as the name suggest its an airline navigation system being developed by AAI (Airport Authority of India)& ISRO (Indian Space Research Org.) in collaboration with Raytheon (US based aircraft & air defence manufacturing Co.)...this software will help in reducing the flight time significantly...after the implementation of GAGAN the signals will come frm satellite to refence stations thru-out the country which will correct them & uplink back to satellite, which will then transfer to aircrafts...Apart frm accuracy, the aircraft will plot its way thru shorter route, hence reducin flight time...its now goin under feasibility test, partly will b implemented in 2008 while completely by 2010...the present 80 air control towers will b replaced by 8 refrence towers @ Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Port Blair, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Jammu & Thiruvanantpuram (Trivendrum)...after that 8 more(if required) towers can be set up.
