Sneakers in Paris
2008-06-05 11:55:00
It is said that tourists should not wear sneakers in Paris as not to be so obviously tourists. But on what are you going to walk all these kilometers visiting the city? Even if you go by metro you still will be walking a lot. Better prepare yourself as if you'll be running the New York City Marathon. It's hard to enjoy the city with blisters from walking on your high heel fashionable shoes. You'll get in bad mood, won't enjoy that much and will get fuzzy with the few helpful Parisians.Of course some very high profile places (nightclubs) won't let you in with sneakers unless it's a one of the exclusive pairs, you paid a small fortune for because some celeb has sport them before you. Here's how you can wear sneakers in style and don't miss out on comfort: Converse100 years of history and still going stronger. The French love them, maybe because of May '68, who knows. You can get them in lots of places. It would make a real style statement if you have your own personalised pair...

It looks and feels like Wikipedia and it even comes in several languages (French is here) and is packed with everything you always wanted and need to know about Lost. Guinguette: the anti-raindance
2008-05-27 11:36:00
If you feel like going out of Paris in between the rainy spells, then why not go for a nostalgic trip to a Guinguette. Just 16 km south of Paris you can dance at the Seine riverside to the tunes of accordion music, enjoy a slice or two of the Auvergnate cuisine. So typical Parisian and yet a different world that is was almost forgotten until it was rediscovered as something hot and trendy. Maybe all the dancing and good food can not make the rain go away. But it will guaranteed get your spirits up and get you in shape for your summer slimsuit!Every sunday in June: déjeuner Dansant with Guy LeturLa Guinguette Auvergnate19 av de Choicy94190 Villeneuve St GeorgesHow to get there: by RER: Ligne D stop Villeneuve TriageBy bus: Take the bus 182 at the Porte de Choisy and stop at the terminus : Gare de Triage.

Unusual Food: Snail Caviar
2008-05-21 12:26:00
In France snails are quiet common staple and dish served in restaurants. They're not as bad as it sounds, provided they are Fresh and not the canned version (but isn't that the same rule for every thing?). When you're new to snails or want to make sure you get the real thing go to L'Escargot 38 rue Montorgueil Paris 1e. Metro Sentier. Eating the eggs of snails could be the next culinary frontier for some. In the 1980ties they started to produce the caviar from the snails' eggs. Just preserved in brine they were pretty tasteless and uninteresting. Now the pearly white and rather big eggs from the Helix Aspersa Maxima get a more delicate treatment with fleur de sel de Guérande, rosemary oil and citric acid. They come out tasting like a walk in the forest after the rain with a hint of mushroom and oak leaves and a pleasant crush (is that the shell?)A real delicacy with a price to match: around 1500€ per kilo.1 snail produces about 100 eggs that's 4g per year. And they are not...

Tokio Hotel chez des Princes
2008-05-16 18:49:00
They're back on tour and if everything goes/stays okay with Bill's voice then Tokio Hotel will be on stage June 21 not at Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy but Le Parc des Princes. Pleasing the girlie crowd with an average age of almost 14. The adults in the crowd are there to escort their kids and they look all very awkward, standing in line for the concert. But you don't have to: The band is cute and you'll have a good time! Besides you'll be the coolest parent which can last up for about 2 days.Don't forget to bring ear-protection though, not because the sound engineer did a bad job but because of the high pitch screams of the girls. The slightest move on the dark stage of a technician makes them go wild and that's way before the band starts.here's the video to illustrate the point:Tokio Hotel - "Monsoon" - 05/03/08Uploaded by jencostLes 4 allemands sont à nouveau sur la route et le 21 juin ils seront au Parc des Princes. But what did we do before we had the WWW?What did you do 15 years ago instead of sitting at your computer to learn, to entertain or get entertained, get inspired, get informed, share, find a mate etc. How did your do all these things without the WWW?
