NYC - Marijuana Arrest Capital of the World
2008-05-02 16:01:00
The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) released a major report Tuesday showing that New York City is now the marijuana arrest capital of the world. Harry Levine and Deborah Small, the report authors, found that between 1998 and 2007 New York City police arrested 374,900 people for low-level, misdemeanor marijuana offenses.  That's more than eight times the number of arrests on the same charges for the previous ten-year period between 1988 and 1997, when 45,300 people were picked up for having small amounts of marijuana. Once someone is convicted of a drug offense, they can lose college financial aid, food stamps, public housing and, in some cases, even voting rights. Money wasted and lives ruined ...and for what? Mayor Bloomberg has admitted to smoking marijuana and even said he enjoyed it.  It is shameful that Mayor Bloomberg is encouraging his police force to use their precious time and resources for such a destructive and ineffective polic...

The Chili Strikes Back
2008-05-02 14:18:00
Consider this Fair Warning! This got story from my friend Jerry "LoneWuff" England.  Which means, One should prepare before reading, by sitting down that beverage, and don't take another bite of that snack less ye decorate with high velocity, your keyboard. I went grocery shopping recently while not being altogether sure that course of action was a wise one.  You see, the previous evening I had prepared and consumed a massive quantity of my patented 'You're definitely going to $h!t yourself' chili.  Tasty stuff, albeit hot to the point of being painful, which comes with a written guarantee from me that if you eat it the next day both of your a$$ cheeks WILL fall off. Here's the thing. I had awakened that morning, and even after two cups of coffee (and all of you know what I mean) nothing happened.   No 'Watson's Movement 2'. Despite habanero peppers swimming their way through my intestinal tract, I appeared to be una...

Commuting in FlatLand - May 2
2008-05-02 13:46:00
Another fine FlatLand morning for a Motorcycle Commute to Tampa with 63 degrees f., scattered clouds and no wind. The morning light show was beautiful as I rode East into the sun rise. There were FHP Cruisers on SR54 as well as the Toll Roads running ambush in the heavy Friday commuter traffic. The low fog resting over the pastures looked cool in the sun rise light. You can tell the majority of the Snow Birds have left the area as traffic is moving much better, even when it's heavy. Strange how I didn't pass a single motorcycle during the commute this morning; given the beautiful weather. Oh well, it's Friday in FlatLand and Hey!  It's Florida Outside! Have a great weekend everyone and Ride it like you stole it. LATER Technorati Tags: RilySi,Ride it like you stole it,Motorcycle Riding,Motorcycle Commuting ,FlatLand...

Police Motorcyclists - Keen To Be Seen
2008-05-01 20:52:00
POLICE motorcyclists in Teesdale Durham, UK are now more visible thanks to the redesigned livery on their new patrol bikes.    Durham Constabulary's motorcycle section has taken delivery of nine new bikes, to help them to patrol the dale.  The bikes are the first vehicles in the fleet to adopt the national Battenberg style of police livery, which uses high visibility yellow diamond patterns on a blue background. The new machines, Yamaha FJR 1300s, pack a powerful punch and are capable of speeds of up to 150mph. They replace the former fleet of Honda Pan European ST 1300s. The new police motorcycle livery As well as the high visibility markings, the bikes also have LED lights which use less power, and are fitted with Incident Data Recorders. PC Tony Richmond, of Durham Constabulary's motorcycle section, said:  "The bikes are capable of doing everything we ask of them. They are agile enough and quick enough to do what we need them to ...

Fine Approved for Florida Motorcycle Wheelies
2008-05-01 19:58:00
Florida Legislature has Approved Increased Fine s for Wheelies. TALLAHASSEE, Fla., April 30 (UPI)  Florida has passed a law making it illegal for motorcycle riders to perform wheelies that impress spectators but can also lead to spectacular spills as well. The state Legislature Tuesday passed a measure imposing a $1,000 fine on first-time offenders and up to $5,000 and possible jail time for a third strike. The Miami Herald said the law has angered some motorcycle lovers. One blogger allegedly threatened one of the measures sponsors, which Capitol police were investigating on Wednesday. State Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, told the Herald he sponsored the bill after riding with Florida Highway Patrol officers and seeing turbocharged bikes racing along on one wheel at speeds as high as 136 miles per hour. My Favorite Friedrich Nietzsche Quotes
2008-05-01 15:24:00
I thought I would share some of my favorite quotes from my favorite German philosopher & philologist, Friedrich Nietzsche . Become who you are. - F.W. Nietzsche It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book. - F.W. Nietzsche There are no facts, only interpretations. - F.W. Nietzsche Believe me! The secret of reaping the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment from life is to live dangerously. - F.W. Nietzsche The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - F.W. Nietzsche There is one thing one has to have: either a soul that is cheerful by nature, or a soul made cheerful by work, love, art, and knowledge. - F.W. This mornings Motorcycle Commute to Tampa started out in 54 degrees f. and worked it's way up to a balmy 58 f. by the time I arrived at the office. No wind and No Clouds on this fine FlatLand Morning. Traffic moved well on the Surface Streets with some LEO's feeding on Cagers here & there. Traffic was heavy on the toll roads but  also moved well; even with the FHP Cruisers handing out Personal Performance Awards to Cagers. I left the Casa 10 minutes earlier this morning than normal and it cut 20 minutes off the commute time. Have a great May Day everyone, and Ride it like you stole it. Motorcycle Insurance - A Subject We Love To Hate
2008-04-30 19:34:00
These days simply being careful while out and about with your bike and using safety gear is not the only protection you would need.  Motorcycle s have a far higher rate of accidents per unit distance than cars. This is due to the exposed rider and the fact that many automobile drivers fail to see these smaller vehicles in the traffic stream. Also, as the law and lawsuit trials become more and more "complicated," you might even end up paying for the guy who was talking on his sell phone while driving, failed to see you and pushed you in the ditch. Of course, he had a good lawyer. And you, ... well, your brand new bike is bits and pieces, not to even mention being hurt from the fall. So, you either cough up few thousand dollars for the medical bills and fixing your bike, or contact your insurance to take care of the bill. Your motorcycle is a major investment, one that is certainly worth protecting. Making a smart insurance decision is crucial for your prote...

Wilmington N.C. Motor-Officers Go ATGATT
2008-04-30 18:51:00
Wilmington North Carolina Motor cycle Officers are now protected with ATGATT  "All The Gear All The Time"  while on-duty. The local chapter of the Blue Knights, a group of active and retired law enforcement officers who enjoy riding motorcycles, donated the new riding gear to the department.     The Riding Gear weigh less, are water proof, and have extra armor in the shoulders, elbows, spine, and knees to protect the officers should they be in an accident.     "A motorcycle is less visible than a car and the more visibility we give these guys the better the survival rate," said Blue Knights member Jeff Tripp. The officers are already wearing their new gear on patrol. Motorcycle Stunt Riders Could End Up Behind Bars
2008-04-30 18:18:00
A Proposed Bill Could Put Florida's Stunt Motorcycle Riders Behind Bars . TALLAHASSEE, Fla. April 30, 2008 Some Motorcycle Riders could face huge fines and even prison time for speeding and/or stunt riding if a new bill in the Florida Legislature becomes law. Florida lawmakers say they want to stop the stunt riding on public streets and Riders who perform tricks or speed could face a $1,000 fine under this new bill; a third offense could lead to a $5,000 fine and five years in prison. The bill is now heading to Governor Charlie Crist's desk for consideration. Again, the bad actions of a few will impinge on the rights of the many. Albert Hofmann - Creator of LSD Dies at 102
2008-04-29 20:02:00
Sad News today. Albert Hofmann, the creator of LSD has died. “Through my LSD experience and my new picture of reality, I became aware of the wonder of creation, the magnificence of nature and of the animal and plant kingdom. I became very sensitive to what will happen to all this and all of us.” - Albert Hofmann “In old times, and also in our time among the Indian tribes, psychedelic substances were considered sacred and they were used with the right attitude and in a ritual and spiritual context. And what a difference if we compare it with the careless and irresponsible use of LSD in the streets and in the discotheques of New York City and everywhere in the West. It is a tragic misunderstanding of the nature and the meaning of these kinds of substances.” - Albert Hofmann “It is true that my discovery of LSD was a chance discovery, but it was the outcome of planned experiments and these experiments took...

This morning's Motorcycle Commute to Tampa was in 68 degrees f. with heavy overcast sky's and some light rain thrown in for good measure. The FHP Cruiser was already feeding on the cager as I passed them on SR54. I stopped for Petrol and paid $3.57 US per gallon of Regular Unleaded.   Traffic on the surface roads in Pasco County moved well, even with the LEO's out hunting. The Suncoast Parkway / Veterans Expressway was different sack of frogs all together. Traffic crawled slowly the closer we got to my exit. Once off of the Toll Roads and back on surface streets in Tampa, the pace slowed to a halt on Wilsky Blvd and Linebaugh Ave. A distance that normally takes 4 minutes, took 16 this morning. The Uno Electric Transport

Another offering from the Strange File is The Uno! It reminds me of a re-engineered Segway. It was unveiled at the 2008 Toronto National Motorcycle Show. Operation is just like the Segway in that you lean forward to go forward, and back to go backwards. This is the 18 year old inventor, Ben J. Poss Gulak, showing off it's capabilities. It's kind of cool and who knows, it may even prove to be more practical than the Segway.   Source: MotorcycleMojo LATER Technorati Tags: RilySi,Ride it like you stole it,Motorcycle Riding,The Uno

The Florida Legislature     For wasting time and Tax Payer dollars debating a stupid automotive accessory. It must be envy or jealousy because of their collective lack of the debated "Orbs". TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - They're proudly displayed by any self-respecting bull, but dangling big metal ones on the back end of a truck could be banned in Florida. Metal replicas of bull testicles have become trendy bumper ornaments in some parts of the Sunshine State, but state Sen. Carey Baker is campaigning to ban the orbs. Baker acknowledged that Florida lawmakers have more pressing issues, including huge revenue shortfalls, but said the state needs to draw a line on what's obscene before more objectionable adornments appear. State Sen. Steve Geller argued against Baker's bill. "I find it shocking that we should be telling people that have the metallic bull testicles ... you're now going to...

Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics
2008-04-26 00:49:00
Here a some interesting statistics to ponder next time you see a Doctor. The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians Per year are 120,000. Accidental deaths per physician Is 0.171. Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services. The number of gun owners in the U.S. Is 80,000,000. The number of accidental gun deaths Per year, all age groups, Is 1,500. The number of accidental deaths Per gun owner Is .000188. Statistics courtesy of FBI. So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. So remember, Guns don't kill people, Doctors kill people. One other thing to ponder:  Not everyone owns a gun but almost everyone has at least one Doctor!  LATER Technorati Tags: RilySi,Ride it like you stole it,Motorcycle Riding,Statistics

May 2008 - Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
2008-04-25 18:20:00
RILYSIPromotes “Sharing the Road” with Motorcycle s by Joining Efforts with State and Federal Partners. One out of every nine U.S. road fatalities accounted for last year involved motorcycle riders.  This steady increase in fatalities over the past decade represents one of our Nation’s greatest challenges.   Motorcycle fatalities now account for 11 percent of total road fatalities and have increased each year from a low of 2,116 in 1997 to 4,810 in 2006.    So while there has been continued success in reducing vehicle deaths in recent years, this progress is being negatively affected by the rise in motorcycle fatalities which has more than doubled.   Motorcyclists Are at Risk from Other Drivers With warmer weather here, more motorcycles are back out on the road – and the drivers of passenger vehicles need to be alert. Motorcycles are small and may be difficult for drivers of other vehicles to see. Motorcyc...

Major League Baseball     Two signs on the doors leading from the visitors' clubhouse at U.S. Cellular Field to the first-base dugout read, "NO BOTTLED WATER ON THE BENCH." Gatorade is Major League Baseball's "official sports drink." So instructions were sent that no player could be seen drinking anything but Gatorade in the dugout. Not even Aquafina, which is the "official water" of MLB. Not even bottles of water with the labels removed. White Sox clubhouse personnel said if players take bottled water onto the bench, all the bottled water will be removed from the clubhouse as punishment. So remember, the biggest threat to baseball isn't steroids or HGH or amphetamines or runaway ticket prices or four-hour games. 2008 BMW R1200GS Adventure - 1st Ride
2008-04-24 17:44:00
By JC Hilderbrand on MotorcycleUSA.com Motorcycling epiphanies are rare and beautiful things, and when they occur upon two wheels the results can be euphoric. I was fortunate enough to have one of these eye-opening experiences at the press launch for the 2008 BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure . It came about not by twisting the throttle or pounding the dry Arizona terrain any harder, but was a simple case of less is more. The 2008 BMW R1200GS and GS Adventure are called "face-lift" models, but the miniscule changes serve to make the most popular BMW machines just that much better. BMW is especially proud of its R1200GS line, and deservedly so considering that it's the Germans' most popular selling machine. Last year the Bavarian marque rolled its 100,000th model off the assembly line earning it recognition as "the most successful BMW motorcycle of all times." That was over eight months ago, and there isn't any indication from the engineers th...
