2008-06-03 17:45:00
A while ago, a reader asked me about this recipe and I’ve been looking for one to tempt the pallet ever since. But the recipes I came across just didn’t inspire, they needed a little something, a bit more dazzle than cream, gelatin and cookies. So I decided to venture on ...

We?ve been itching to put together a list of things to do in the Algarve for sometime. But it?s a challenge to organize a list that appeals to everyone?s taste. Given all there is to do and see across the Algarve, from beaches, historic sites, golf, shopping, etc., it just makes putting a list together ...

Car Boot Sale - Feira Sobre Rodas
2008-05-13 17:16:00
Well I have to say, I’ve never been to a Boot Sale unless it was of course for the kind you put on your feet, but this idea sounds quite interesting. When I lived in Canada, garage sales were quite popular in spring and summer; this is basically the same thing but on wheels, ...

Caracóis - Portuguese Snails
2008-05-02 15:46:00
The French call them Escargot, we call them Caracóis - they’re not the same type of snail, nor do we bathe them in butter like the French, but they’re equally delicious, and right now they’re available in restaurants across the country. I’m pretty sure every culture around the globe has some sort of food that ...

Sushi Ya Restaurant
2008-04-24 15:53:00
When we first moved to the Algarve, there wasn’t a Japanese restaurant in sight. This was a sad thought for sushi lovers like us, so we resigned ourselves to making it at home. Then one day while driving through downtown Faro, we spotted what appeared to be a mirage….a small, new van with the ...

Quinta da Esperanca - Alentejo Wine
2008-04-18 10:12:00
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with wines from the Alentejo right now. There are so many of them; I couldn’t possibly keep up unless I developed a habit. Plus, most of the time, my palette just fancies trying different regions, and considering Portugal is full of wine regions, its hardly a ...

Pasteis de Bacalhau - Portuguese Codfish Cakes
2008-04-16 22:17:00
For some reason, I have an image imprinted on my mind that Pasteis de Bacalhau are the perfect snack - appetizer, tapa, picknick food, and all around great fast bite. I’m also discovering, I don’t make them often enough. With summer around the corner, I’m thinking this is going to be a recipe I’ll be making much more often. One batch of these little guys goes far; well depending on how many hungry bellies are hanging around. When I make them to have at home, they last for a couple of days and are great pulled apart and added to a salad or filling for a sandwich…but best of all they’re good hot or cold. But my favorite is hot out of the fryer and lightly dipped in a nice aioli. I know aioli is Italian and not Portuguese , but hey my forefathers navigated around the globe bringing back spices, herbs and all sorts of foreign influences…why not do the same today? Sometimes mixing things up can produce some delicious results! (more…...

Faro Motor Rally 2008 - Concentracao Faro 2008
2008-03-17 21:28:00
While taking a drive out this past weekend it was obvious biker fever is back in the air. With the great weather we’ve been having I was reminded the Annual Concentracao de Faro /Faro ...
