2007-08-14 10:56:00
How do the French stay so slim? When I came across this French company - Belle de Sucre - I was blown away by the beauty of everything they sell. Then I found out that it's all made from sugar. Who would eat something like this or is it just for show? You can go to the Maison & Objet expo to find out more, from September 7th to 11th 2007.You can order online also.Source: HERE and HERE

A so-delicious-adorable store in the Marais, Paris
2007-08-13 11:08:00
It's impossible to pass the enticing windows of Autour du Monde in the Marais and not stop in for a peek...A smart boutique with a modern aesthetic and a nose for what?s fresh without being trendy, Autour du Monde is an unmissable design destination in the Marais. Founded by Serge Bensimon, the two-level shop has a changing selection of globally sourced tableware, decorative objects, furniture, bedding, rugs, lighting, and more. The upstairs has high ceilings and exposed beams, and there's a bed in the vaulted basement that is set according to the seasons. There?s something here for every budget, and lots of complimentary inspiration. If only the help did not run so hot and cold. But like a restaurant with great food and unreliable service, we keep going back.Source: HERE

A stunning building in Paris
2007-08-08 11:17:00
The Grande Arche de la Fraternité is a monument in the business district of La Défense to the west of Paris . It is usually known as the Arche de la Défense or simply as La Grande Arche. On the roof you?ll discover year round exhibitions (such as the 3D gallery) and temporary ones (where renowned, contemporary artists will relay over the year), models of the Arche and a 20 minutes movie explaining how the Arche was built. For the little story, in 1999, French urban climber Alain Robert scaled the structure's exterior wall using only his bare hands and feet and with no safety devices of any kind.In the 2004 film, Godzilla: Final Wars, it is one of the Parisian monuments destroyed by the giant insect Kamacuras.More info? What you have always wanted to know about Edith Piaf
2007-08-03 13:11:00
Edith Piaf was one of France's most beloved singers and became a national icon. Her singing reflected her tragic life, with her specialty being the poignant ballad performed in a heartbreaking voice. The great love of Piaf's life, the married boxer Marcel Cerdan, died in an October 1949 plane crash, on a flight to see Piaf. Their affair made international headlines.Piaf was later married twice. Her first husband was Jacques Pills, a singer. Her second husband, Greek Théo Sarapo, was a 26-year-old hairdresser-turned-singer and actor, 20 years younger than Piaf. They married in 1962.In 1951 she was involved in a car crash along with Aznavour, breaking an arm and two ribs, and thereafter had difficulty breaking serious morphine and alcohol addictions. At the early age of 47, Piaf died of liver cancer on the French Riviera, on October 1963, the same day that her friend Jean Cocteau died. She had slipped in and out of consciousness for the first two months after her marriage to Sarapo, be...

Paris Plage
2007-08-01 10:57:00
From July 20th to August 29th, Paris has a beach right inside the city. the manmade beach along the river Seine, now opening for the third year running.Deck chairs, sun-loungers and colourful parasols have sprung up everywhere. And by lunchtime, it was impossible to find a free chair. The biggest novelty this year, though, is a 28-metre swimming pool, installed after complaints last year that there was nowhere to cool off properly during August's heatwave.Once again, the French flair put into organising petanque and picnics along with Seine, sea and sand just shows what Paris can do - something that won't go unnoticed in the battle with London for the 2012 Olympic Games.Full article, HERE.Picture, thanks to happybene.

Paris is getting invaded!
2007-07-30 11:47:00
For few years now, Paris sees some ?space invaders? on its walls. The idea is to "invade" cities all over the world with characters inspired by first-generation arcade games, and especially the now classic Space Invaders.Because they're all different, they're all numbered, photographed and carefully indexed. The guy started with Paris and then Los Angeles but there are several more cities in the world which have been ?invaded?. The ?invader? works alone so it means that people in the world have taken up his concept and applied it in an international way.The guy says ?Not a week goes by without new Invaders appearing.?So be ready to look up for these ?Space Invasions?.Links: HEREThanks to tofz4u for the picture

An unique experience restaurant in Paris
2007-07-16 14:07:00
Dans le noir? (In the Dark?) is a restaurant located in Paris . They have opened more restaurants in London and Moscow.Everything is unusual in there but it is really worth going. The concept is having diner or a drink in a complete darkness, not even a tiny spot of light to help you figuring where is your neighbour. All the waiters and waitresses are blinded people. If you need to go to the bathroom or anything else, they will be the only ones to ask.You can either order for a regular menu or you can let yourself go for the "Surprise Menu" which you won't know the composition except that there are a starter, main course and a dessert. You will be able to ask the staff for the elements of the diner/lunch, once you will be done.In this completely dark room, all your senses will be in alert. You will need to speak loud because you don't know the distance to your next friend, the food will take a totally different taste since you can't see it, some stuff you don't like, will taste pr...
