Christmas Celebration In Portuguese Settlement

This is another post with video clip that about Christmas celebration. The first and second video clips for previous posts were recorded in Perth, Australia but this video clip was taped in Portuguese Settlement . You might think that Portuguese Settlement is in Portugal but it's not. For your information, Portuguese Settlement is in historical city of Malacca, Malaysia. Portuguese Settlement formerly was a fishing village but now it is a housing estate. Most of the residents here are descendants of Portuguese. They celebrate Christmas every year by decorating their houses with beautiful light.The Malacca State Tourism Authority promotes this settlement to be a tourist attraction. The Lisbon Hotel was built here recently to provide accomodation for tourists. There is a square here with restaurants, pubs and souvenir shops. There will be performance of Portugal folk dances during week ends.

This is another video about Christmas parade in Pert h , Australia 2005. If you had watched the video of my last post then you should know that the people there were so enjoyed and excited. Actually I planed to visit Australia in early December but the tourist agency keep on delaying the daparture date and I flew to Australia in middle December. My trip to Australia is 7 days 5 nights and the Christmas parade was held a few day before Christmas. So it's coincedent that I had the opportunity to watch this excellent parade.

In conjuntion with the Christmas festival, I put up a video clip with this post to share with my readers. This video clip is about Christmas parade in Pert h , Australia . I recorded it in December 2002 when I went to Perth with my family. I was lucky to have the opportunity to witness this Christmas parade in Perth.The parade was supposed to start at 7 pm but the streets were crowded with spectators as early as 2 pm because early birds can have good view. I still remembered that afternoon I bought some fast food and canned drinks for dinner. The parade was remarkable. Hopefully you enjoy watching this clip.

Giant Buddha Statue

The Giant Buddha statue is at the main entrance of Mt. Sorak National Park. The statue is built beside the Shinheungsa Temple at the slope of Mt. Sorak. Korea has been divided into North and South Korea for over half a century. The Government of South Korea built this huge statue wishing that the separated nation can be united. So, the Giant Buddha statue is the symbol of unification for Korean. It is the largest sitting bronze statue in the world. The duration of construction took 11 years. The Giant Buddha has a merciful smiling face that looks down at its visitors. Many people come here to pray for their wishes. You can do so by lighting candles or just face the Buddha statue and make your wish.. The candles are available from the shop near by the temple. There are containers at the bottom of the statue for prayers to place candles.

Besides visiting ginseng centre, amethyst factory is another destination that included in the tour packages (Please refer Korean Ginseng Extract 01) by most of the South Korea tourist agencies. Based on the brochures of few South Korea tourist agencies ( M.Club Travel, Cosmojin Travel Service, Grace Travel and Mercury Travel. ) that I have, visiting ginseng center is included in their tour schedule. I think the reason is probably that South Korea Goverment demands the tourist agencies to do so as to promote the popularity of ginseng.

This is another example of Kore an folk craf. It is a key chain. I bought this key chain at the Hallim Park in Jeju Island of South Korea . Jeju Island is the largest island of Korea. The location of Jeju Island is south of Korea Peninsula. There are many strange formed of rocks, volcanic craters and caves in Jeju Island. Indeed, Jeju Island is a mysterious island. This island is famous for its myth and legend. As you can see from the above photo, the small statue with big eyes is made of Jeju Island's rock.
