Giant Statue Of Qu Yuan In Singapore
2008-06-08 10:52:00 In conjunction with the celebration of the Duan Wu (Dumpling) Festival , the giant statue of Qu Yuan was set up at Waterloo Street, Singapore .The building behind the giant statue of Qu Yuan is Rochor Centre. The height of this giant statue is about 2 levels of a building.Qu Yuan (340BC--278BC) was a Chinese patriotic poet from the State of Chu during Zhan Guo (Warring States 403BC--221BC) period.Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the State of Chu. Under the influence of his political rival, he was exiled twice by the king of Chu. He was desperate when his homeland was conquered by General Bai Qi of the State of Chin. He jumped into the Mi Luo river to protest against the corruption of his country. In order to keep fish away from Qu Yuan's body, villagers threw zong zi (dumplings) into river for fish to eat. Today (fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar), Chinese all over the world celebrate Duan Wu (Dumpling) Festival to commemorate Qu Yuan. More About: Statue , Giant

2008-03-03 17:56:00 We spent around 3 hours in Singapore Science Centre. After taking a few of photos outside Singapore Science Centre, we took a taxi and heading to Singapore City. We alighted in front of People's Park Complex .I had been to People's Park Complex when I was working in Singapore for few months in 1973. People's Park Complex was a popular shopping centre as well as famous landmark in 1970's. With more giant skyscrapers and shopping malls rising up, People's Park Complex has lost its cutting edge.People's Park Complex is located in Singapore Chinatown along Eu Tong Sen Street. Gong Xi Gong Xi
2008-02-07 03:19:00 We greet each other "Gong xi fa cai" when we meet during Chinese New Year. "Gong xi" is wish and "fa cai" means to be rich. You can greet "Gong xi fa cai" to adults but not to children. You should say "Xin nian kuai le" (Happy New Year), or "Xin nian jin bu" (To have better achievement in new year) to Children. These are some examples of Chinese New Year greeting that commonly used.I would like to wish my adult readers "Gong xi fa cai", "Xin nian kuai le" and "Shen ti jian kang" (To be healthy). I also wish my young readers "Xin nian kuai le" and "Xin nian jin bu". More About: Festival
Shopping Rush
2008-02-05 18:28:00 A large number of shoppers flock to most of the shopping malls in town these few days. Shopping rush is just like hot cake. You can see how the shopping rush was from the above video clip. It was recorded last Saturday. This hyper mart opens from 8 am to 11 pm on Monday to Thursday and from 8 am to 12 midnight on Friday to Sunday during this festive fever.I went to this hyper mart twice to shop for Chinese New Year stuffs.. I bought a full trolley of food, cookies and snacks for each trip and spent few hundreds ringgit.Wang Xiao Er guo nian, yi nian bu ru yi nian. Nian nian nan guo, nian nian guo. These two sentences are in Chinese. Wang Xiao Er was a poor man. He became poorer year by year. However, he had to celebrate Chinese New Year no matter how poor he was. This means that Chinese New Year is a special festival to Chinese. I am as poor as Wang Xiao Er and have to shop for celebrating Chinese New Year too. More About: Rush , Malacca

2008-02-05 04:19:00 My blog reader Kang Yong posted a comment after reading my previous post : nian gao 01. He enquired whether I really knew how to make nain gao. I am glad to say "Yes". I still remember the ingredients, procedure and tools of making nian gao. With the urbanized of living environment and time factor, now people seldom make nian gao for themselves. They mostly buy ready made nian gao. Unless they are from kampung or new village and free to do so. Although steaming of nian gao can be done at the back lanes of terrace houses but it's inconvenient and not suitable. Besides that, grinding of the glutinous rice is a problem. It's not only takes time but also has to possess a grinder and to keep it.Nian gao is nice to eat when it's still warm. It's sweet and sticky. Nian gao will become hard when it's cool. Cut the harden nian gao into pieces and keep it in the fridge. When you are thinking of eating nian gao just take it out from the fridge and steam it until it turns soft. You can take... Korean Seaweed 02
2008-01-31 16:35:00 This is another variety of Korean seaweed. It's totally different with the one I mentioned before. The seaweed that I wrote about in my previous post is in thin slice form but this seaweed is in particle form. From the second photo you can see that the seaweed is mixed with other ingredients. The bigger size substances and red in colour are shrimps. The oval shape objects and light yellow in colour are sesame seeds. The black dark portion of the photo is seaweed.Needless to say, this seaweed is more tasty because it's added with shrimps and sesame seeds. You can take this seaweed with your meal. You can also sprinkle it on the bread and take with coffee or tea. I prefer to take it with a glass of beer when sitting in front of television watching my favorite program It's so relaxing and enjoying. More About: Food

Harry Potter In South Korea
2008-01-29 04:07:00 Harry Potter had been to South Korea . Really ? The above photo is an evidence. Harry Potter was posing in front of a building in Everland Theme Park.Actually, I am just kidding. That was a Harry Potter movie poster that placed outside a cinema. The letters of the poster were in Korean except the second line. Honestly, I can't read any Korean word. I only speak a few simple words of Korean. According to my son, the first line at the top is "Victoria Cinema Program Information". The largest words mean "Harry Potter". Please inform me if I had wrongly interpreted.I have no idea this poster is about which series of Harry Potter stories because I am not Harry Potter's fan. More About: Harry Potter , South Korea
The Caring Korean
2008-01-28 02:42:00 This korean man was busy clearing the frozen snow from the ground. He was an employee of Everland Theme Park. The roads inside Everland Theme Park will be covered with snow during winter. They are wet and slippery. You have to be careful when walking along them. The caring korean will keep on removing the snow to ensure the safety of the visitors.I still remembered that a lady of my tour group slipped on the frozen snow. She complained her back and buttock were so painful for the whole journey. If you don't have any winter life experience before just like Yan Hong then you have to put on a pair of shoes with good friction base when travelling in South Korea during winter. Otherwise, you have to beware of falling down and your buttock have to suffer. Adapting of climate is very important when travelling in a country with climate that is different from your homeland. That really will be a horrible nightmare if you are unable to do so. More About: Attraction , Korean

Cold Winter In South Korea
2008-01-17 15:41:00 My visit to South Korea during winter in 2005 was really unforgettable. After a few hours flight, I had to adapt myself to a totally different climate. Wow, that was an amazing experience. The winter temperature of South Korea is below 0 C. I am from a tropical country with hot weather for the whole year. The daytime temperature is above 30 C and the temperature is around 30 C at night. There is a great difference in temperature between my country and South Korea.I had never spent my life in winter before I stepped on the land of South Korea. That was my first experience in my life. The winter of South Korea is too cold to me. I had to put on four layers of clothing and looked like a clumsy astronaut. This photo was captured from the window of the hotel that I stayed when I was travelling in South Korea. As shown in the photo, the top of the buildings were covered with snow. You could imagine how cold it was. More About: Winter , Cold

Sorak was so unique. That is the reason I write this post.Mt. Sorak is an attraction that tourists should visit when travelling in South Korea. Base on the travelling reviews that I had read, the best time to visit Mt. Sorak is during autumn. Mt. Sorak will full of numerous colourful leaves in autumn. If you like the beautiful falling season scenery then go ahead to visit Mt. Sorak around September to November. The above photos of Mt. Sorak were taken in winter. The first photo looks like a Chinese painting. It's so artistic. The second photo shows the valley of Mt. Sorak fully covered with snow. Snow is nothing special for anyone from countries with four seasons. For those who have never seen snow in their life in tropical countries then the winter white snow of Mt.
