Let's find Saipan's Sexiest Male Blogger!
2007-07-10 11:55:00 Does posting this poll make me gay?A few weeks ago I asked people to nominate bloggers for Saipan 's Sexiest Male Blogger . Not a single person was nominated.I hate all of you.Oh well, I went ahead and nominated some of my favorite Saipan bloggers without you jerks. I nominated 8 bloggers: Brad Ruszala, the Beach Boy in Paradise; Jeff Turbitt, the angry bald fat guy; Harry Blalock, the Saipan Diver who according to EJ is like a talkative lady; Gus Kaipat, the Voice of Olomwaay; Bruce Bateman, the Worst Person in the World; Walt Goodridge, the Passion Profit and Jamaican Sensation; David Khorram, the Marianas Eye; and myself, Angelo Villagomez, National Soccer Player, The Saipan Blogger, Beautify CNMI guy, and all around great guy...not that I'm trying to sway your vote.I want to get as many voters for this most important of polls, so I've attached the html code to put this poll on any blog, Myspace, or website. It will look like this:Opinion Poll s & Market ResearchSimply post this ... More About: Find
MP Magazine
2007-07-10 02:08:00 Have you picked up your copy of MP Magazine ? Here is the part about me, from page 51:"MY HOBBY"Like many of Saipan's bloggers, Cinta finds inspiration in the blog of Angelo Villagomez. Still in his twenties, the internet has been an intimate part of his entire adult life. (He learned of the death of his father, the late Justice Ramon Villagomez, via a computer instant message from his brother.) He understands the internet, and has mastered its nuances.Type the word Saipan into a Google search, and Angelo's blog, The Saipan Blogger, will come up on the very first page. It's not there by accident. Angelo is a diligent student of search engine optimization, the process by which a site appears high on a search engine ranking. His blog receives some 500 visits (or "hits") a day-about 75 from Saipan and the rest from around the world. And during a period of madness when people were searching for scandalous photos of a beauty queen, Angelo had a link to those photos on his blog. ...
A Haiku for Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo
2007-07-10 00:54:00 Polumbo blackmailedNaked dancing monkey picsBlog hits through the roofWho knew that so many people were interested in this picture of Miss New Jersey lying seductively on the floor and these pictures of her dancing at a nightclub? I posted the first picture on Saturday and received about 500 hits. I posted the dancing pics on Sunday and received about 600 hits. I didn't post anything on her on Monday, but still received 2,000 hits. Right now it is just after 8:00 AM on Tuesday and I've received almost 4,000 hits. How did beauty pageants become so popular all of a sudden? Now, I love tons of traffic as much as the next guy, but this is going to have to be the last naked picture I post of Amy Polumbo:...........This story is already starting to bore me. After all, it's not like this girl is Miss Nevada Katie Rees , the standard by which all disgraced beauty queens shall be judged. More About: Haiku
The Cinderella Story begins tomorrow
2007-07-09 14:35:00 Tomorrow is the first game of the Saipan COED Soccer League. The Dreaded Butt Pirates take the pitch against Wild Bill's at 5:20 PM at the airport field. On Wednesday, Guns & Roses plays Morgan Rose's team of retard midgets at 5:20 PM.Come enjoy the carnage! We play rain or shine. We even braved Tropical Storm Man-yi for practice today. Sure, it was a little windy, but this is soccer, damn it! More About: Story , Cinderella , Typhoon , Tomorrow
If I was in Florida right now
2007-07-09 01:08:00 I'd be hunkered down.Tropical Storm Man-yi is spinning around somewhere above the warm Pacific waters between Guam and Yap right now. In Saipan we're getting a little rain and a lot of wind, but I don't think we're going to sustain any damage. You know how whenever there is a storm in the Atlantic, every news station from Galveston to Key West to Richmond turns into Tropical Storm Center [insert channel number here]? Well, that doesn't happen in Saipan. In Saipan you sit on the beach drinking a beer until someone says, "Hey, it sure seems windy today."Then, depending on the severity of the wind, you either finish your beer and then A. call the Emergency Management Office or B. crack open another beer.We went with option B last night at Steve and Miwa's going away BBQ. We all kept commenting on the wind and the fact that it was picking up, but nobody seemed too concerned. In fact, in place of worry, I think the consensus was that it would be pretty nice if every day was this bree... More About: Florida , Typhoon , Flor , Right Now

Random thoughts from 4 in the morning
2007-07-08 02:57:00 I wrote this at 4 AM. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep.I woke up early to help clean up the Garapan Tourist District. I didn?t know it at the time, but I was spotted by a shy Refalahaole. She saw me sweeping the curb. After the cleanup I spent a few hours at Café at the Park helping Marites with her personal blog and the FMI blog. She bought me a cup of coffee and an artery blocking, diabetes inducing Loco Moco. Yum. Thanks, Marites!I went home at around 11 and read about half of George Lakoff?s latest book. Whenever I read in the afternoon I undoubtedly fall asleep, so after a short nap, I turned the computer on and looked at some of my pictures taken during the last year.EJ came over late in the afternoon. We continued looking at pictures while we drank a few beers. Around dinner time we went out to the new Taste of India down in Chalan Laulau. For $12.95 we were treated to a buffet of curry, tandoori, and other Indian delights. They gave us free beer, too.F... More About: Katie Rees , Blogging , Random Thoughts , Random , Thoughts
UNCENSORED: Nude Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo Photos
2007-07-07 03:18:00 First it was Miss Nevada Katie Rees . Some jerk released naughty pictures of her on a Myspace page. Then Miss Teen USA Tara Conner was caught drinking underage and making out with miss Miss USA, Katie Blair. Then former Miss Universe Cecilia Bolocco from Chile was caught suntanning topless with a man who was not her husband. Oops! Now the Miss America Pageant has a scandal.22 year old Amy Polumbo was crowned Miss New Jersey a few weeks ago and some jerk is threatening to release nude pictures of her if she doesn't give up her crown. In this day and age where you can't go anywhere without people snapping pictures of you, you'd almost have to be a saint (or a Mormon) to not have pictures floating around of you drinking, acting stupid, and generally doing things that you wouldn't want your parents to find out. Most of the embarassing photos of me were taken at Godfather's. Thanks.Well, I did a litter Internet research and found the website that is hosting the nude photos. Here is one of... More About: Photos

Federalization gets one step closer
2007-07-05 00:46:00 S. 1634, the bill that would federalize Immigration in the CNMI, is available online. Click HERE to read the bill.I haven't had the chance to read the bill carefully, but I will. Please educate yourself and read this bill.I did take a quick glance at the bill, though. Skip on over to line 23 on page 13. It reads: "(h) ONE TIME NONIMMIGRANT PROVISION FOR CERTAIN LONG TERM EMPLOYEES.-"It looks like any eligible alien, along with their spouses and children, who have "continually resided, except for brief absences, in the Commonwealth for at least the five years prior to enactment of this Northern Mariana Islands Covenant Implementation Act" will be able to apply for a five year nonimmigrant visa. The alien just has to pass a criminal background and a medical test. The visa will be renewable every five years. The alien will have one year from the implentation of the act to apply for the visa. After that, the window to get the visa closes. With the nonimmigrant visa, workers will be able... More About: Step , Closer

Lighthouse Cleanup
2007-07-04 09:48:00 It has been several months since we've held a cleanup of the Navy Hill Lighthouse . I think the last one was on April 1, the day we lost 9-0 to Guam in Guam.We had a cleanup there this morning. We removed all the garbage and cut back some of the weeds. A bunch of us are going to watch the 4th of July fireworks from the second story deck tonight. If you read this, please feel free to join us.The graffiti has gotten really bad. We need to paint it. I think this project deserves its own Beautify CNMI Committee. What do you say, Team BC? More About: Cleanup , Ouse
Not so Forbidden anymore
2007-07-04 09:40:00 A few months ago, several teenagers died at Forbidden Island. In a reactionary measure, the Department of Lands and Natural Resources put up a sign that reads DO NOT ENTER and some barbed wire.Somebody hacked a trail right around the barbed wire. Oh well, so much for keeping people from going down there.I went down there late yesterday afternoon with a few friends. Beautiful.
Taotao Tano: Listen Up!
2007-07-03 23:35:00 Like a lot of people, I disagreed with Taotao Tano's "Go Home" and "This is OUR Land" protest signs. What a great way to kill any ounce of credibility that your group might have.I went to the last Taotao Tano meeting and it seemed like they had a lot of good ideas and were concerned with a lot of important social issues facing our community. I had high hopes for Taotao Tano and it saddens me that they are blinded by their racism. The immigration status of foreign contract workers is probably one of the most important issues facing our islands, but their protests sound eerily similar to the "Nigger, Go Back to Africa" philosophy of the Ku Klux Klan and the Republican Party. There are so many issues facing this island. Blind racial hatred should not be one of them.Taotao Tano has already identified a lot of the issues. They are concerned with the mismanagement of CUC, the legalization of marijuana, and a host of other things.I'd like to add to that list:1. Jack Abramoff, part IIThe Go... The Rota Blog
2007-07-03 00:14:00 Since we started promoting the creation and upkeep of new blogs in the CNMI, most, if not all, of the blogs have been created in Saipan. Some of the Saipan bloggers take trips to Tinian and Rota, but I think we are all based here on the big island.I just came across a diary on Dailykos of an American couple that is moving to Rota. They've started a blog, Operation Rota, to chronicle their lives in Rota, which begins on July 25.They write about how they would consider themselves successful if they can get 100 stateside readers per day. That shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to add a link to them on this blog and I hope that they reciprocate by adding a link to me and to the We Love Saipan Network. That should help you get some readers. You'll also get a lot of readers from Japan and the Philippines...and maybe even my Mom in Costa Rica will read your blog. More About: Blog
Transformers, cliches in disguise!
2007-07-02 23:30:00 The Black Autobot dies. I'm not kidding. One of the Autobots loses his legs, most of the Decepticons die, but the only Autobot to actually kick the bucket is Jazz, the jive talking Autobot (Jazz gets ripped into two pieces by Megatron). Why does Hollywood always have to kill the black guy...even if he is 30 feet tall, from the planet Cybertron, and encased in an alloy exoskeleton?I saw Tran sformer s at the only showing on Saipan yesterday. I went with Bree, Litcelle, and EJ. The movie, like any other movie starring hobbits, ninjas, dragons, pirates, boy wizards, and selected comic book heroes, is a must see for those of us who grew up watching the Thundercats every afternoon at 3 PM.The movie didn't suck, but the screenplay could have used some work...or maybe it was the editing. I mean, come on, whose idea was it to have a 10 minute segment where they were looking for the grandfather's glasses? Was that really neccesary? There were also a lot of holes in the plot. They never... More About: Movies
Carnival of the Blue II
2007-07-02 09:03:00 Blue is the new Green. The Carnival of the Blue II has just been posted over on Blogfish. For those of us living on Saipan, environmental issues usually concern our oceans. Even many of our land based issues, such as wastewater treatment, deforestation, and solid waste management are ultimately ocean issues because, yup, you guessed it, what we do on the land can affect our marine environment.I am participating in the Carnival of the Blue because I want to share the CNMI's Ocean Conservation stories with other people interested in Ocean Conservation. My submission this month was the several posts about the recently concluded Beautify CNMI Micronesia Challenge Summer Camp.Next month I am going to write a post called, "The Future of Conservation in Micronesia." It will be about the Micronesia Challenge, how the five jurisdictions are implementing it, and what I am personally doing to contribute. The month after that I am hosting the Carnival of the Blue on The Saipan Blog. EJ is upset
2007-07-02 04:25:00 For the last few weeks, a google search for "Korean Party Girl" resulted in that video of EJ jumping on a bed at the Tinian Dynasty as the top result. Now she's been eclipsed by that hussy Paris Hilton. Sometimes the world just isn't fair.So.Even though she may no longer be Google's #1 Korean Party Girl, EJ is still Saipan's #1 Korean Party Girl. She's Angelo's #1 Korean Party Girl, too. The blog post in which I write about getting buried
2007-07-01 00:40:00 I wrote in my previous post that Thursday was our longest day. Well, we had the kids from 9 AM on Friday until about 12 PM on Saturday, so I guess the final day was our longest day. And, oh man, was it a long day. I got back to my house at about noon, took a shower, washing my hair about 8 times to get all the sand out, and went to bed. I felt like I had run a marathon. I got up in time to meet Mayumi and the students from Marianas High School National Honor Society for a cleanup of Micro Beach...but only barely. But enough about my whining.Friday's activities started at American Memorial Park. The students were transported from Hopwood to AMP in a bus provided by Tasi Tours. Again, thank you a million times, Tasi Tours. Since I live in Garapan, I just met up with them at about 9:45 at the Park.We met Ranger Nancy at the Park Museum. She gave the kids time to go through the World War II exhibit, then signed them in for the days activities, and gave them a short talk on National Parks... What do you mean no more camp?
2007-06-30 10:24:00 The last three days of the Beautify CNMI Micronesia Challenge Summer Camp flew by. As I type this on Saturday evening, I can't believe that it is over. Oh well, coming from a life long Boston Red Sox fan, there's always next year...and the students are already asking us to make it two weeks, instead of just one week, long. We'll see about that.Thursday ending up being our longest day. The day started at 7 AM. Two of the students, Bree, and I appeared on the Harry Blalock Island Issues radio program to talk about our camp. We were on the show for about 20 minutes and Harry grilled the two students, Sami and Zoe, about the things they have learned this week. He also helped us record environmental public service announcments after our interview.Harry was so impressed by the girls and the other campers that he wrote about them on his blog and on his weekly radio commentary, Food For Thought:Then I also wanted to spend a little time talking about a group of bright young students ... Give a monkey a pen..
2007-06-28 23:28:00 ...and he's still a monkey.So.The last time I wrote about someone's letter to the editor, it was from the guy that wrote a letter announcing to his family, friends, and the entire world that, contrary to rumors circulating throughout the island, he hadn't committed suicide. I made fun of his letter, calling it "The Greatest Letter to the Editor EVER" or something like that. A few hours after posting it I got a phone call from the writer. He pointed out that I was being insensitive and that the rumor had caused a lot of pain for people in his family. Not wanting to be "that guy," I apologized, agreed with him that he was right, and took it down. So, with that said, and the expectation that I'll piss someone off, let's continue making fun of people's letters to the editors:In today's paper there is an entry from one of the CNMI's prolific writers, Gonzalo Santos. I think this guy writes at least one every other week and spends most of his letters talking to his imaginary friend.... More About: Monkey , Random , Give

Getting help from the community businesses rocks!
2007-06-28 09:48:00 I have to give a huge thank you to the businesses that supported the Beautify CNMI Micronesia Challenge Summer Camp . Tasi Tours offered to drive the students around to our different field trips all week FREE OF CHARGE. PSS does not have money to pay for gas, so we were extremely lucky that they are so generous.Thank you, Tasi Tours! We also owe a huge thank you to Ed Salas and Tan Holdings. Mr. Salas heard us on the Harry Blalock Island Issues radio show this morning talking about how we are running the camp on a shoe string budget. On Monday we had P&J sandwiches for lunch, on Tuesday we had the dollar menu at McDonalds, on Wednesday we had baloney and mayo, and due to Tan Holdings generosity, we feasted on Shirley's today.Tan Holdings gave us $100 worth of food!Thank you, Tan Holdings! Beautify CNMI Micronesia Challenge Summer Camp: Day 1
2007-06-27 03:55:00 The goals of the Beautify CNMI Micronesia Summer Camp are to introduce kids to conservation issues, the Micronesia Challenge , and environmental careers. We had a very successful Day 1.Kathy Yuknavage, Natural Resource Planner at CRM and MINA Secretary, helped us kick off the week long camp by making a presentation on the terrestrial portion of the Micronesia Challenge. She talked to the students about the 20%, how much land the CNMI already has in protected areas, and how much of that land is in forested areas. She also made a presentation on the Walk It, Don?t Drive It Campaign. The students learned about the different reasons not to D.R.I.VE. on the beach: Driving on the beach Drips oil, creates Ruts, Impacts the sand, and kills Vegetation. After the presentations by Kathy we did an energizer/ice breaker. We played boffer tag.Our first activity was an experiment to determine how many germs are on our hands when we eat. We took a slice of bread and had someone handle it who hadn?t was...
