2008-05-13 06:05:00 The Glamis Sand Dunes are the most popular off-road destination in Southern California. Hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive on various holiday weekends, often grouping in popular areas during specific times of the day, such as Oldsmobile Hill in the afternoon and Gecko Road in the afternoon. The BLM estimates that over 1.4 million visitors come to these sand dunes each year for day-use riding or to camp over weekends and ride in the dunes. The Glamis Sand Dunes, also known as Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, are located southeast of the Salton Sea in southern California at the border with Arizona and Baja California del Norte, Mexico. The field is approximately 45 miles long by 6 miles wide and extends along a northwest-southeast line that correlates to the prevailing northerly and westerly wind directions. Lodi Wine and Visitor Center
2008-05-10 18:08:00 Located halfway between Sacramento and Stockton on the way to the Bay Area, Lodi is California’s other wine destination. Lodi has long been California’s number one source of varietal grapes, and its old-vine Zinfandel has even achieved cult status among connoisseurs, yet few wine labels mention the area. That’s changing as an aggressive local growers’ group promotes the area’s grapes and wineries increasingly recognize their quality. As a result, Lodi is starting to gain credit on wine bottles. Your first stop on your Lodi wine county trip should be the Lodi Wine and Visitor Center . Learn about the local history, taste some local wine and pick up a wine trial map. Located only 35 minutes south of Sacramento and 90 minutes east of San Francisco - the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center is a must stop sight in the Northern California wine country. Lodi Wine & Visitor Center, 2545 W. Turner Rd. Lodi, CA 95242 Open Daily: 10:00am - 5:00 pm
Sutter Buttes - Yuba City California
2008-05-09 06:21:00 Yuba City 's western horizon is dominated by the Sutter Buttes, renowned for being the "Smallest Mountain Range in the World." The range is actually circular with a diameter of 10 miles and covers an area of about 75 square miles. The mountains are the remnants of a volcano that has been dormant for over a million years. South Butte, the highest peak is 2,117 feet above sea level. North Butte is 1,863 feet and West Butte is 1,685 feet above sea level. Before modern levees and dams were built to contain the rivers, winter storms and spring run-off frequently turned the Sacramento Valley into an inland sea making the Sutter Buttes an island refuge for Indians, settlers and wildlife. The Buttes have had many names over the years. The Maidu Indians called them "Histum Yani" which translates as, "Middle Mountains of the Valley" or "Spirit Mountain" More About: California

St. George Reef Lighthouse
2008-04-29 05:35:00 About about eight miles northwest of Crescent City lies another lighthouse, St. George Reef . This one is a littler harder to get to since it is on a rocky Island out in the Pacific Ocean. The light was lit for the first time on October 20, 1892 and continued to shine until 1975 when it was abandoned. To view the St. George Reef Lighthouse from land, go north on the road that hugs the coast in Crescent City. When you arrive at the airport, turn left on Radio Road and follow it to the beach at its end. This is Point St. George, and the housing used for the keepers when they were ashore is adjacent to the parking area. The St. George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society offers helicopter tours out to the lighthouse weather permitting.
Battery Point (Crescent City) Lighthouse
2008-04-29 05:06:00 The light house is located in Northern California, just below the Oregon border, in Crescent City . The Lighthouse and its museum is open to the public for tours including opportunities to look into the personal quarters of keepers and their families and the furniture and artifacts they have left behind since the 1850's. Tours include a climb into the light tower. There are displays of many maritime artifacts, photographs and documents that chronicle its history. The Lighthouse is open April through September, tides permitting, between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM, Wednesday through Sunday. Visits to the Battery Point Lighthouse and Island are only possible at low tides. Extreme care and caution should be used when crossing the two hundred feet between the mainland and island anytime wave action may cover the crossing area. Sneaker waves at any time can threaten visitors standing on or near the rocks and the shore of Battery Point Island.View Larger Map

Live entertainment, day spas and first class dining are just a few of the things you can enjoy while staying or visiting one of these casinos. Located on reservation land the resorts tend to be in the more scenic areas of Southern California . Vacation Season
2008-03-05 15:32:00 Spring is here and now is the time to start planning that summer holiday. Many Californians will join the thousands of visitors from around the world and take in all the attractions we have in the golden state. Some of the more adventurous will decide to visit destinations all over the globe. One place I have always wanted to visit is South Africa, from what I have read the coastal areas are very similar to Southern California. Taking such a long journey requires a lot of research. Some of the information you will need is flights to South Africa, hotels and car rentals. Wherever you decide to go on holiday this year plan ahead to get the best rates. San Diego Trolley
2008-03-03 05:30:00 Visitors to San Diego soon find out that you can get around without a car. Public transportation is excellent in this Southern California City. San Diego has a trolley car system much like Los Angeles and Orange County had between 1930 - 1960. The Metropolitan Transport System red trains can take you to most of San Diego's attractions and the train even runs down to the border with Mexico. In total there are over 51 miles of track served by three different lines, blue, orange and greens lines. There are 53 stations throughout the San Diego area all of which are connected with bus lines. Next time you visit San Diego park the car and travel aboard the MTS. An even better idea is to visit San Diego onboard Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner train, then see the sights by riding on the San Diego Trolley. It's a shame that Orange County, with all it's attractions has no such rail system to take locals and tourists to destinations. With the price of gas getting sky high we need to have other...
