Chiang Mai Chitchat![]() Chiang Mai Chitchat A collection of vague ramblings from a 'Geordie' expat ensconced in the northern hills of Thailand who has nothing better to do with his time. If these cause offence to delicate dispositions it's not my intention, get over it, life is too short.

Just Another Day In Paradise
2006-08-18 19:43:00 Had quite a surprising reaction to the previous post “Night Bird” so much so that I am delighted to tell you that young Nok has been ‘rescued’ and returned to her family in Mae Sai. I only hope it stays a happy ending. Now onto more depressing items. My golf score card. No, best not talk about that, there may be children reading. Don’t want to give them nightmares. It scares me; God only knows what it would do to the minds of innocent children. If nothing else it has improved my caddy's (Neu Lek) arithmetic no end, since the introductions of 9s, 10s, 11s and yes and even an odd (very odd) 12, she has progressed quite well into unknown territory, for her, of adding double digits. Sadly, due to the increased frequency of high scoring games she has become very proficient and rarely makes a mistake, even under persistent pressure and the threat of a reduced tip. Ah well, c'est la vie! Or should it be Sacré bleu! And what about the weather! It’s become impossible to guess, o... More About: Other , Just , Paradise , Para , Another
Sad News
2006-07-29 21:53:00 ***************************************** *********************Further to my post "The Prodigal Son" it saddens me to report that his dear mother passed away yesterday. My deepest sympathy goes out to the boy and all his family, I know how much they all loved her. The Family God rest her weary soul.************************************ ********************** More About: News
Seeds of Doubt
2006-07-26 00:54:00 Have you ever been in a position (No, not that position JJ!) when you say to yourself "What the f****** h*** (flipping heck) am I doing here!" I don't mean here in Chiang Mai, I mean here on this God forsaken planet! That's if you believe there is a God to have done the forsaking in the first place. I have travelled extensively around Arabia, Asia and the back streets of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and had many a reason to doubt the 'Maker's' existence. My Irish catholic mother (bless her) would be turning in her grave, if she were dead, to hear her only, ex altar boy, son utter such heresy. But doubt has a lot going for it. Without going into Tsunamis, Middle East conflicts and Newcastle and Sunderland derby’s, there are countless, seemingly insignificant, experiences anyone of which is qualified to sow those nagging, irritating, inconvenient seeds of doubt in, what is already, a confused mind.Where was the descending finger when I asked for another pint of the devils brew in The Pub... A week of good and bad news
2005-12-25 00:31:00 Wishing all my readers (both of you) a Merry Christmas. Christmas morning, 7 am and not one kid to be heard falling off his/her new bicycle. No sounds of synthesized machine guns or catastrophic electronic explosions as the latest Super Hero saves the world....yet again. No wails of anguish when the long awaited Barbie Doll is wearing the wrong dress. No, there's a different sound in Chiang Mai on Christmas morning....silence. In fact it's no different to any other Sunday morning in "The Rose of the North". And to some that's probably 'good news'. To others, well....whatever. More good news, the mid-week green fees at Hang Dong are going down! Yes down! In an age where nothing comes down - except maybe JJ's pants after a visit to the Butterfly Bar - this really is good news. And if I continue winning balls from, it has to be said, an off-form Albert, then what more can I ask for. Talking about what more can I ask for; other good news, my youngest daughter, Vicky, has just succ... More About: News , Bad News , Week , Good
